uptodate on what's happening with America Sports Car. Keith, welcome back to the show, baby. This is the big one.
4:02
This is the start of year number five for Corvette today. You know, Steve, it's an amazing milestone. You know, happy anniversary.
4:08
Five years. Wow. I mean, who would have thought it first of all, not that you wouldn't have been successful at this, but when you've got 5 years of a body of
4:15
work now that you can point to over 200 and some shows, there's just a feeling of accomplishment. I'm just happy to be
4:20
part of it. You've really taken this bull by the horns and run with it. It's just been a fun run and I'm real pleased to be here every two weeks. Buddy, it's
4:27
always great to have you here and we're celebrating almost five years of our news and headlines show that will come
4:32
up in September of this year. So, here's to another five years, buddy. You know what I mean? Exactly. Yeah. We'll have to throw a
4:38
party or something. Absolutely right. Well, let's start off like we always do, Keith, with an update of Corvette production from the Bowling
4:45
Green assembly plant. Yeah, Steve. So, if you're ready to purchase a new Corvette Stingray, you've really waited for the right time. We're
4:51
doing a little bit of estimating here since we're recording a little bit earlier than normal, but by this week, we should be close to 19,500 stingrays.
4:59
Wow, that's an incredible number just for 2024. That's the number for 2024. They're flying off the shelves and landed on dealership floors. They got a
5:05
big old for sale sign on them now because a lot of dealers are ordering cars now for dealer stock where before it was always just they were serving
5:11
their customer list. Now you've got a real selection. If you're just spur of the moment, want to just go down or you just want to go down and check one out.
5:17
Generally, your dealer should probably have a couple now. You could probably even do a test drive, Keith. You know, all things are possible these
5:24
days. At some point, dealers are going to be like, "Yo, man, Chevy, I already got some Stingrays." You know, give me some of the other stuff, right?
5:30
I think the Stingray is definitely the volume leader. It's a fantastic car. We saw some of the comparisons. We did a
5:35
Urags comparison where it was only 2 seconds off the Z06. Fantastic car that starts at $60ome,000. As for the Z06,
5:43
we've crossed the magic 5,000 unit milestone. And in fact, by the end of last week, we should be close to 5250.
5:50
We've actually seen a few dealer ads now. They're advertising 2024 Corvette Z06's at MSRP, which again, I didn't
5:57
expect that to happen so quickly, but hopefully that trend will continue. Yes. Finally, the ramp up of all rampups
6:03
continues with the -ay. Our last production number from Roger Keel was 238. We're probably going to be about
6:09
240, 245, maybe close to 250 by this week when it starts. They've been doing
6:14
like four days a week. Seems like they build four and they take a day off. It's real random. And in fact, last Monday
6:19
they built 10, which I'm like, great, that's a good number of 10 in a day. And then of course the next day they built zero. So I mean, okay, that averages out
6:26
to five per day. You do it that way. It's not so great. They say that it's under control. They
6:31
say everything's working away. Allocations came out again on Thursday last week. Guess what? No
6:37
again. Wow. So if you think about it, they did that initial -ay allocation back I think it
6:42
was in September or October last year. We think that there was maybe 450 to 500 cars allocated and they're only halfway
6:48
through it. So that's why we're not actually seeing any more allocations up to this point. The big question is we're already in the
6:55
middle of April again. Who would have thought that? But are we going to actually start to see the buildout
7:00
information? When's the model year changeover going to happen? You know, we always traditionally say around July
7:06
4th, around the July 4th weekend, which is when it used to be. You know, it was almost like clockwork around then. But since 2017 when they started redoing the
7:13
plant and doing some other things that start stop date has been all over the place. Last year they started stingrays
7:19
in midepptember. Again it's just all over the place. But we are kind of thinking that maybe we'll get some regular production news like that. It's
7:25
been an amazing run. So just to give you the total and again we're estimating a little bit but start of this week we're looking about 25,000 cars for the 2024
7:32
model year that have been produced already. Hats off to the people up at Bowling Green in Detroit. They're cranking them out. We still got that
7:38
shell shock from COVID and all the parts supply issues and stuff like that, but the allocations previously have shown
7:44
that the constraints for the Z06 are wide open. No issues whatsoever. Let's just hope that run continues.
7:49
Yes. And to add to that equation, GM delivered 8,500 plus Corvettes in the
7:54
first quarter this year. Exactly. Yeah. That report came out on April 2nd, covers first quarter. Again,
8:00
that was 8,576 Corvettes. That's 8.5% higher than last year at the same time.
8:06
Last year they did 7,94 Corvettes in the first quarter. It's always an issue with weather and some other things that go on
8:12
in first quarter that will impact supply and workers can't get in the plant because of the snow or ice or something like that. So 8,500 Corvettes in a
8:19
quarter. That's a pretty solid delivery number. And of course, these are only for US sales only. That's not the number that they produce. That's the number
8:26
that they sold. Yes, that's true. Also, Corvette dominated in the first quarter of 2024
8:31
in the sports car sales category, which is real encouraging, too. Again, 8,576
8:37
Corvettes were delivered January, February, March. And that's more than all the Toyota Supras, Nissan Z's, Mazda
8:42
MX5s, Subarus, Toyota GR86s, and the BMW Z4s added up together.
8:49
Wow. What really makes this more impressive is that our average transaction price in fourth quarter for the Corvette was over
8:55
$106,000. Yes. So, it's not like we're selling $60,000 Stingrays and beating these other cars.
9:00
Right. We're selling Z06s, E- Rays, and Stingrays with an average transaction price of 106,000. Despite what we hear
9:07
about sales slowing, the fact is that many customers are still taking delivery. It's very impressive. We have a chart on the website that shows about
9:13
20 or so models that the Corvette was up against. And even we had some Mustang numbers, some Challenger numbers there.
9:18
Sadly, Porsche USA hadn't reported their deliveries yet for first quarter when we published this article. But you know what? We all know that Corvettes kick
9:24
Porsche's's butt anyway, so I'm not really worried about what that number is. And there you go. I like that. Also, buddy,
9:30
we got constraints for April, didn't we, already? Yeah. So, this was again the order that started last week. The constraints are
9:36
the same old same old. You can't get the Q9i gloss black wheels and the 5ZU painted high wings for the Stingray. And
9:43
of course, the C-51 versus the base model Stingrays are still being controlled by Chevy. So, they tell dealers exactly how many they can order
9:49
of each if those dealers do get Stingray allocations. Again, the really great news for Z06 was free of constraints. If
9:55
a buyer wanted a Z07 with the visible carbon fiber arrow, have add it. It is available.
10:00
Fantastic. Yeah. Again, no orders for so no constraints were shared for the first Corvette hybrid. We're just kind of
10:06
watching that ramp up and hopefully we'll see some decent movement there. Yeah, definitely. Also, GM issued a
10:12
service bulletin for the Z06. This was for the automatic shift to park function. I'm not exactly sure what that
10:18
is. To be honest, I have no idea what the real issue is here. The service bulletin
10:23
says that quote under certain rare and unique conditions the automatic shift to park function on your new car may fail.
10:30
I'm assuming it's shifter related and it's just failing to go into park. I'm not real sure about that, but if you see
10:35
some any parking or shifting issues, you know, take it to the dealer, let your service tech know that there is a service bulletin out there and hopefully
10:41
they can diagnose it. There's no numbers to this. They didn't really say what these rare and unique circumstances are.
10:47
Just one of these kind of things that they put out. Obviously, they saw something and they wanted to put it out that any dealer service techs were
10:53
working on something, they would have a reference for it. If it is a problem, it's just a software flash. That's great. That's good to know.
10:59
Especially if it's just a software update. That's simple and easy. Also, Keith, I think GM is watching me because
11:05
they now came out with carbon fiber door sills for the C8 Corvette. They've been uh checking out my car, I think.
11:11
I think so. You know, Steve Garrett, call your office, right? That's right. Yes. I was building some in the visualizer a couple weekends ago because
11:17
that's what I do. And I first saw these beautiful visible carbon fiber door sills offered under
11:23
the interior tab on the build and price configurator. They got the same GM style carbon fiber with the Corvette
11:29
silhouette and they look really nice. They say Corvette on them. The build and price configurator shows that they are available for $1,995
11:36
per set. But if you were to look them up on the Corvette accessories page, they're actually listed there for $21.95. Oo. I've got the part number for
11:44
anybody that wants to shop around. The official GM part number for these is 851
11:49
04768. We have this on the website. If you go up to any of the pages on chevrolet.com
11:56
for the Corvette, click on the Corvette accessories button there. You can search them there as well. Great. That sounds good. Well, buddy,
12:02
let's take our first break. When we come back, it's Corvette Racing and Corvette Rumors on Deck here on Corvette today.

14:33
833-639-4231. I'm your host, Steve Garrett. With me is
14:39
my buddy Keith Cornet from corvette blogger.com. We are celebrating the beginning of year number five of
14:44
Corvette Today. In the second segment, we always do Corvette racing and Corvette rumors. Keith, give me a
14:50
Corvette racing update real quick. Yeah. So, last time we were talking about Corvette racing, I actually mistakenly said that they'd be back in action at
14:56
Long Beach this weekend. Of course, Long Beach is this weekend, but only the GTP and then the GTD amateur cars are only
15:03
going to be there. So, we're going to be rooting for the AWA Racing number 13 Z06 GT3R at Long Beach. Now, Corvette
15:10
Racing's next IMSA event is at Monterey at Laguna Secika May 10th through the 12th. And then again, Prattton Miller
15:15
Corvettes will also be racing at the Detroit Grand Prix on May 31st through June 1st. So with these smaller street
15:22
courses such as Long Beach and Detroit, they've actually split up the field. So they have two of the classes racing at
15:28
Long Beach and then two of the classes will race at the Detroit Grand Prix. The really cool thing about the Detroit Grand Prix is that they're also going to
15:35
share that weekend with Indie Cars. So it's going to be a lot of fun. In fact, Tommy Milner has been up in Detroit
15:40
drumming up some interest as the GTD Pro Cars will be there. And you know, it's been a little while since Corvettes have actually raced in Detroit because the
15:47
GTD Pros were always granted that weekend off because of Lemons and getting ready. You know, they have to
15:52
ship the cars over and all the logistics. Right now that the fact that we're not going to Lemons and the GTD cars are here, we're able to run on the
15:59
street course and that's going to be the first time we run on the Detroit Street course as well. So, that's going to be a lot of fun. That'll be cool. As for the World Endurance Championship,
16:06
TF Sports two Corvette Z06 GT3RS will also be in action on April 21st. They've
16:11
got the six hours of Amola in Italy. This is the second round of the WC and we're really hoping these cars working
16:17
through some of their issues. It's first year car. They're going to find some stuff, but we're really want to see these cars competitive again.
16:22
Yeah, definitely. Also, Keith, this is probably the biggest story in my view of the whole show today. Last Wednesday,
16:29
Corvette teased the reveal of the C8 ZR1 coming up this summer. Yeah, we knew it was coming, Steve, but
16:35
we're never sure when they're going to drop this stuff. That's probably been the question I've been asked a lot about recently is any word on the ZR1? Do you
16:42
know when you hear anything like that? So, Chevrolet made it official. They dropped a teaser video on all their
16:47
social media channels saying the Corvette ZR1 is coming this summer. The teaser video is very short, but it
16:52
showed the new ZR1 logo and there was a silhouette of the car like busting through it. I got chills the first time I watched it.
16:58
Yeah. It ends with like a silver cross flags and then the tagline at the end says, "The unthinkable is coming this summer."
17:05
It's really great to finally have some official info to look forward to. I think the message really we're looking at the reveal happening this summer. I'd
17:12
say the indications are strong that this will be a 2025 model year car. We'll probably see a late year edition based
17:18
on what we've seen previously, you know, with the Z06 and the -ray promised here and then coming later on, right? I
17:24
probably wouldn't expect ordering to start or even production to start until sometime after January of 2025. A lot of
17:31
stuff's up in the air. You know, maybe they'll do the ordering earlier on and then production starts in January or after January, but that's kind of been
17:38
the timeline. We kind of heard the January 2025 timeline first and then the reveal fits right into that.
17:44
Yes, it's going to be exciting. I was kind of thinking, man, you know, it would be great to have this car launched at the Corvette Museum for the
17:50
anniversary show. You got the 30th anniversary of the NCM. You've also got the caravans that are coming in. So, all
17:56
these people there, but you know, 5,000 people, that's a lot of people around a brand new show car. So, the logistics of
18:01
that might not be as perfect as I was thinking. We'll just have to stay and watch and see what they do. But exciting
18:07
stuff. The ZR1 is finally here. Yeah, I can't wait, buddy. I'm looking forward to this one. I don't know why so much, but I am really looking forward to
18:13
seeing the ZR1. You know, one of the things I did, Steve, was these cars were at the Nurburg Ring 6 months ago, and it just
18:20
seems like it was forever, right? So, I went back and I watched a couple of the Nurburg Ring videos again, goosebumps. You know, you see the blue
18:26
flame shooting out. It sounds a little bit different. And of course, the car is just moving. So, pretty exciting stuff.
18:32
I'm really excited. Excited indeed. Also, this is kind of a head scratcher, buddy. GM has blocked
18:37
the warranty of an owner of a Z06, but he never flipped the car. What the heck's going on with that?
18:43
Yeah. This is a YouTuber named Corvette Posi, and he's sitting in front of a black Corvette Z06, and he's got some
18:48
paperwork in his hand, and he relates a story of how he went to a dealership for his first oil change, only to be told by
18:53
the service manager that his warranty was blocked. And then further research showed that GM blocked the warranty only
18:59
24 days after his initial purchase. He's had the car for almost a year now. He points to the Z06 behind him and kind of
19:05
states the obvious that he's never sold the car. And not only that, he never transferred to an LLC. There's no change
19:10
in financing. Still with the exact same lender he had when he first got the car. Really hoping that this is a glitch, but
19:16
it's almost been a week now since we've heard from him. We're really hoping we'll get an update soon on it. You'd think this would be an easy fix, right?
19:22
But I guess not. These are automated lookups that are done. General Motors is checking the DMV at various states, you
19:29
know, to see when one of their bins comes up and if it was transferred or not, and they can look back and see when it was sold. So, I believe it would be
19:36
an automated process. You could see how that maybe something glitched there. But come on. Again, this is one of my
19:41
problems I have with this Z06 retention program. The potential to hurt the normal user, the person that's got the
19:47
car that loves it and now doesn't have a warranty because he still owns it a year later. And in fact, he got his 500,000
19:54
GM points. Oh. For holding the car for over six months. So definitely a glitch in the system there. Hopefully that'll
19:59
all get worked out. I'm sure it will. Also, this is pretty cool. We heard rumors of GM Japan
20:04
driving a right-hand drive Z06 around town. That would be really, really cool. Yeah. So, last year the 2023 Corvette
20:11
Z06 went on sale in Japan, and you could order any color you wanted as long as it was black, right? So now that the 2024s
20:18
are opening up, they've actually added torch red and arctic white to the orders. Nice. And Japan's different. You know, we can
20:23
go in and we have different order times all the time. They have basically like a one-year window, I believe, and it's
20:29
only open for the month of April. Chevrolet Japan is also hosting a Chevrolet performance tour at select
20:34
Chevrolet dealers in the country and prospective buyers can go test drive the Stingray or get a ride in the new Z06.
20:40
Now, I always like to throw this out there. You know, during the 2023 model year, Japan imported 575 new C8
20:46
Corvettes, and only eight of them were the Z06. We know the plant is making a ton of Stingrays, and I think that GM's
20:52
World Domination Tour should really focus on unleashing these Stingrays onto the world now that we have this extra
20:58
capacity, it seems like. Yeah, I think that would help dealers by absorbing some of that production while
21:03
also putting more Stingrays into these export countries and spreading the word of Corvette worldwide. I think there's
21:08
some good potential here. And we look at all these stingrays coming out and I think yeah, we got to push them out to some other countries now and let other
21:15
people start to enjoy them as well. Definitely. Well, buddy, let's take our final break. When we come back, it's the lighter side of Corvette up next on the
21:22
5-year anniversary of Corvette today. Are you ready for a better insurance

I'm your host Steve Garrett. With me is Keith Cornet from corvette blogger.com. If you want a deeper dive into any of
24:02
the stories that Keith and I cover, you can always go to corvette blogger.com. In this final segment, we cover the
24:08
lighter side of Corvette. Keith, this was really, really cool. There's a video out on YouTube showing an launching 0 to
24:15
60 in 2.1 seconds. Wow. Yeah, talk about hooking up. So, this is
24:20
our friend Brian Glover Jr. He's got the Drive 615 YouTube channel. He was invited to drive the Corvette E-Ray and
24:26
the Z06 at the NCM Motorsports Park a couple weeks back. Now, Byron already owns the C7 Z06, so he knows Corvette,
24:33
but the E-Ray was actually a first drive for him. On the track, he got to do some lead follow. He has all this video
24:38
showing the lead follow. He's talking through what he's feeling and stuff. But then afterwards, he gets to do a couple 0 to 60 m per hour launches in the car.
24:45
Just a funny thing, his first attempt, he forgot to put it in drive. He was so excited. Oops. So, he puts it in gear.
24:52
He enables launch control and bam, knocks out a 2.1 second 0 to 60 launch. And that's just in the parking lot.
24:58
That's like in where they do the autocrossing. Really, Byron also offered up a second video. So, he basically gets out of the
25:04
-ay off of the track and into the Z06 and then does lead follow laps there. He kind of is right there talking about the
25:11
comparisons between the two. He says while he loves the visceral sound of the Z06 and he also felt he had a bit more
25:16
freedom on the track, he says with the -ay, it feels like that it had his back with the all-wheel drive. And I think
25:22
that's probably the biggest thing with the -ray is that it's not likely to step out or feel squirly. I know we saw break
25:27
the speed test drive -ay. He said the same thing. Jesse Auji, he owns that -ay. He says basically that everyday
25:34
drivers are just going to feel a lot more confident in the -ay with the all-wheel drive. Yeah, I think that's probably the big story
25:39
line right now. But yeah, that 2.1 second 0 to 60 is launch is crazy. Now he did it also in the Z06 and his time
25:48
was 3 seconds because the back wheels wouldn't hook up. Oh, you put that -ay on a prep track maybe
25:53
with some decent drag wheels on it and you might break that two second mark. That'd be cool. Also, Boost District
26:00
took an twin turbos on it. Wow. Yep. Well, they're in the process of doing it. The tuners have really wasted
26:06
no time. We saw Lingfelder show off a supercharged, right? We don't have any info on those power
26:11
gains yet. Now, Boost District is doing a twin turbo version and they had their black on the dyno for some baseline
26:17
pulls. A little results were not as good as we saw when Paragon did their dyno, but he still managed 524 wheel
26:23
horsepower and 597 footp pounds of torque. I mean, 600 pounds of torque is quite a bit. Yeah,
26:28
that -ay, that's what it does. And then I also caught another video of a -ay on a dyno. This comes from complete street
26:35
performance and they're turbocharging it as well. Despite the fact that there's less than 250 on the street, some of
26:40
them are gonna be packing some heat. Yeah, definitely. Wow, that's pretty cool. Also, something pretty cool. I
26:46
thought this was awesome. You can win a lunch date with GM President Mark Royce. That's cool.
26:51
Yeah, this was a charity auction at Bring a Trailer. It benefited the Motorsports Museum and Hall of Fame of
26:57
America, which is located in Daytona. The auction actually just closed. The highest bid was $36,000. And that lucky
27:03
winner will go have lunch with Mark Royce at the GM Global Tech Center in Warren, Michigan. And then afterwards,
27:08
he gets to go into the annual GM employee car show, which is pretty cool. You know, they've been doing that car show for like 60 years now, I think.
27:15
Yeah. Uh, and I've seen pictures of it before and you think about the engineers and the people inside Detroit, how much
27:20
they love their classic cars, you get to see them there. I really think this would be a really cool lunch. I actually
27:25
suggested that any Corvette owner who wins it, great way to lobby for the future of Corvette, especially as we're
27:30
living in an ultium world right now with all the EV and hybrid stuff planned. We still want to see that Corvette. We want
27:36
to hear that V8. Good way to lobby for the future of the Corvettes. Somebody's gonna have some fun. Very, very cool. Also, the National
27:42
Corvette Museum. speaking of very very cool has opened up a vintage shop and you can access it online at
27:48
corvettestore.com. Yeah. So, you know, they've got corvettes.com and now they got a tab up there called vintage store and basically
27:55
it's secondhand apparel, memorabilia, other items that have been donated by Corvette enthusiasts and there's some
28:01
pretty interesting stuff there. We found like a 40th anniversary jacket. I don't know if it was a membersonly jacket but uh it was pretty cool. You
28:08
have reference guides, books, diecast models, models that you put together. Check it out. There was some good stuff
28:13
there. There was a book there that sold. These books sell for like $100 used and they sold it for 30 bucks and I was so mad that I didn't get my hands on it.
28:20
Oh, but they have guidelines for cleaning out your closet if you want to bring some stuff there. So, check it out. There's some good stuff there. And I
28:26
think that this is only going to grow once people learn about it and want to get rid of some older stuff. You know, maybe you had a Corvette back in the day
28:31
that you no longer have, but yet you still have this reference guide or materials or even an owner's manual or something. Who knows? We can see all
28:37
kinds of stuff there. Yeah, that's really cool. And also, we did get our top 10 Corvette dealer sales for Q1 in 2024.
28:44
Yeah, this is a kind of a good way to wrap things up here. So, first quarter sales, the big battle between McMullen
28:50
Corvette and Seoka Corvette is ongoing. McMulan has opened up a 79 unit lead. They've sold 377 Corvettes to Sioka's
28:58
298. Last year, McMulan, who is the world's largest Corvette dealership, sold 1,684 Corvettes to Sioka's 1,179.
29:06
So, about 500 Corvettes was the difference there. Mhm. Third on the list is our friend Mike Ferman at Kriswell Chevy with 145
29:13
Corvettes sold. I'll go down the list here. So, Bombin in Dland, which is Miami, Florida, 119. Less Stanford
29:20
Chevrolet, Dearborn, Michigan 94. Stingray Chevrolet, Plant City, Florida 77. Cogland Chevrolet, Rick Ki, Pasca,
29:28
Ohio 59. Bond West Kendall 51, that's in Miami too. And then Classic Chevrolet
29:34
was number nine in Grapevine, Texas 51. And then finally, number 10 is Stonebrier Chevrolet in Fris. This is
29:40
their first time making that top 10 list. Wow. And they sold 47 Corvettes. So, as dealers are starting to order
29:45
dealer stock for inventory as opposed to just working off their list, anticipating we'll see some additional changes in the top 10. You got to work
29:51
for it now. It's not just calling up the next guy on the list and saying, "Do you want this or not?" Most likely people would say, "Yes, I want it." Now, you
29:58
actually got to go out and find some new customers as opposed to just servicing that list. This is all good for the consumer. This is good for Corvette
30:03
people that really have been waiting and wanting to get a car without paying way over MSRP or even MSRP when there's a
30:09
lot of discounting out there. Great time to buy a Corvette and here's your top 10 list which we have over on Corvette Blogger and you can check it out.
30:15
Also, Keith, there's a new YouTube channel that has just come out called the NCS Insider. Now, it's all about the
30:21
NCRS organization and restoring Corvettes to the NCRS standards. As part of the channel there, there's a contest
30:28
called the Corvette Challenge. It consists of Corvette trivia, puzzles, and activities, and they all need to be
30:35
solved to go on to the next step. There's a total of 10 challenges along the way, and the first person to get to
30:41
the very end wins a $50 gift certificate. I'm going to reveal the next clue. Your next task is to go to
30:47
the March April issue of the NCS Driveline, which is one of the publications that the NCRS puts out. To
30:54
determine what page to go to in the drive line, solve this following riddle. To find the page number in the drive
31:00
line, solve the equation that is part of this rhyme. In 1967 came the L88. The
31:06
quantities made were not that great. Take the quantity produced and multiply it by three. Then subtract out just two
31:14
and the number you'll see. Once you're on that page in the drive line, search for the Corvette challenge and it'll
31:19
tell you what to do next. Good luck to everybody and have fun with it. Keith, thanks so much for being back on
31:25
Corvette today, buddy. This is the beginning of year number five. You are a huge, huge part of that. Thank you so
31:31
much for that. Here's to five more years at least. Absolutely, Steve. Thank you so much. Glad to be a part of it. Happy
31:36
anniversary again. We see you on the road. Keep waving. And of course, in two weeks, we're going to be at the NCM
31:42
Bash. So, look for Steve and I. Come say hello. Tell us how much you love the podcast because we love to we love to
31:47
talk to the listeners and get any feedback for us. It's a great opportunity to graze and let us know. So, looking forward to it.
