so Keith cornet Corvette blogger I've
0:01
got Steve Garrett from Corvette Today
0:03
podcast and Stingray Rob who is an indie
0:05
car driver and he is at the National
0:07
Corvette Museum and we'd love to hear
0:09
what you did here today so why why don't
0:11
you just kind of fill us in about your
0:12
day here yeah so we got a tour of the
0:14
museum and then we also had a little bit
0:16
of a trivia my dad is a big Corvette guy
0:18
and so he obviously had all the answers
0:20
to all the questions but um he gave me a
0:23
chance to answer first on some of them
0:24
which is kind of funny just because all
0:26
the information I know comes from him
0:28
I'm just reg getting the answers that
0:30
gotten over the years but um it was
0:32
still really fun and it was cool to see
0:33
the upgrades they've made to the museum
0:35
as well the last few years because it's
0:36
been a while since I've been here 2014 I
0:38
think was a sinkhole 2016 was when I was
0:40
here so they were still working on
0:42
Renovations um but they had the exhibit
0:44
with all the cars that had been in the
0:45
sinkle still out at that time so seems
0:48
like they're doing some good things kind
0:49
of opening it up the stingr grill we
0:53
went and ate lunch there today so that
0:54
was good it got a stingray Burger a good
0:56
you have to it was a requirement for me
0:59
and I I I like I didn't know that I had
1:01
so many things named after me this is
1:02
great got to love it right yeah talk
1:04
about your season so far how's it
1:06
starting it's been a rough season so far
1:08
A little bit but it's the way that
1:10
Motorsports go we're in one of the most
1:12
competitive Series in the world um I
1:13
mean indie car racing is it's the top of
1:16
entertainment as well as competitive
1:18
natur so um last race was really good we
1:21
just finished up at Long Beach Grand Pre
1:23
and I finished 18th after starting I
1:26
think it was 25th so moved up some spots
1:29
um and it just matter building momentum
1:31
the team I'm with this year is aj4
1:32
racing and there's a lot of new guys on
1:34
the team and so that's have to say that
1:36
they're inexperienced they have a lot of
1:37
experience but we need to come together
1:39
as a team and so we're still learning
1:41
the systems that we need to have inside
1:42
our unit um of practices that we need to
1:45
have and place systems we need to have
1:46
in place and just how to build
1:47
relationships one I mean I think that's
1:49
an underestimated part of the successful
1:52
team it's the relationship to connection
1:53
you have because the way you communicate
1:56
can affect how you perform I mean you
1:57
can have the same tools as everyone else
1:59
but if you're not working together
2:00
you're not going to have a good you
2:02
looking forward to the 500 I am always
2:04
it's got to be great I just saw the
2:06
series on Netflix I think called 100
2:09
days to Indie to Indie yeah fabulous
2:12
never seen it before that is kind of
2:14
like the the Indie Car version of drive
2:18
to survive isn't it it's a great way to
2:19
show the personalities it was fantastic
2:21
it was really really great I enjoyed it
2:23
I just binge through the whole thing and
2:25
that's why I asked about the 500 coming
2:28
up it's a great thing yeah now you're in
2:30
the number 41 car that's correct and AJ
2:32
fyd obviously Legend at Indie and all
2:35
over I think you got to start racing
2:37
Corvettes back in the day he might have
2:39
and uh your car I understand um uh
2:42
you're very Christian you have a a
2:43
livery on it it's about prayer would you
2:45
tell us about that yeah so pray.com is
2:47
my title sponsor this year and the cool
2:49
thing about that is it's a unique
2:50
opportunity where most drivers don't get
2:52
because usually your on track Mission M
2:55
Graces for whatever hear the startup
2:58
back um I po this way I little bit um
3:01
but you you see the opportunity of like
3:03
a brand coming on board for the on track
3:04
mission right but being with pr.com we
3:06
have combined off track and OnTrack
3:08
missions they believe in what I want to
3:10
achieve that's cool as far as my life
3:12
mission goes and they also support me in
3:14
doing my success on the RAC trck so um
3:16
it's a really cool thing I mean
3:17
prayer.com is a great app that is trying
3:19
to help people make prayer priority name
3:21
of their game so what's the next race
3:23
coming up next one is in Birmingham
3:25
Alabama okay at Barber Motorsports Park
3:27
nice yeah great track I love it there
3:29
the first couple races have been Street
3:30
courses right you raced at St Pete and
3:32
then Long Beach is this the first track
3:34
course you're now going to get on the
3:35
season and then we did do the thermal
3:37
race which was kind of an exhibition
3:39
race a little bit um so non points but
3:42
this is our first official points race
3:44
at a permanent road course you like road
3:46
courses or ovals better I like road
3:48
courses I like turning right every once
3:50
in a while turning right on oval
3:52
something is
3:54
not it's just feels weird doesn't it it
3:56
does yeah that's cool that's cool now I
3:58
read your bio your 24 right now but 22
4:01
22 wow but you've been racing since five
4:04
or six yep and uh tell us about starting
4:08
like that obviously your dad is a
4:09
Motorsports person and got you involved
4:11
and yeah I uh it's kind of funny my name
4:14
is a big teller of how I got my passion
4:16
obviously they were big Corvette fans
4:18
but when I was like three I had my pedal
4:21
powered Corvette and I upgraded my
4:23
battery powered Corvette which was a c6r
4:25
and then um when I was about 4 I asked
4:28
my parents for a go-kart and so so fifth
4:30
birthday rolls around I see it sitting
4:31
in the garage on the floor and I shout
4:34
with as much energy as I could I've
4:35
waited my whole life to be five um so
4:38
you can see I had a passion from an
4:39
early age that's really cool yeah
4:41
because everybody in your profession
4:44
started with carding at an early age too
4:46
yeah how many years did you do the
4:48
carding I did it from the time I was 5
4:49
until I was about 14 wow and then I made
4:51
that transition around 14 15 years old
4:54
are you finding a lot of guys in indie
4:56
car doing the same thing growing up
4:58
through caring oh yeah really absolutely
5:01
cuz I know that's Formula 1 style I
5:03
didn't know if that was in the car as
5:05
well yeah every once in a while you'll
5:06
see a dirt track guy come in from like
5:08
quarter M or Sprints something like that
5:10
um that's less likely because we we have
5:13
to have that road racing background yeah
5:15
um the ovals they're good and you have
5:17
to have experience in those but it's a
5:18
lot easier to adapt from road racing to
5:20
ovals than it is from ovals to road
5:22
racing just a different technique
5:23
different driving style um and if you do
5:25
the road racing you you have more
5:27
flexibility it seems like maybe not as
5:29
nuanced maybe not as good as some of the
5:31
ovals but you can you can kind of hold
5:34
your own that's really cool well welcome
5:36
back to the museum it's great to have
5:37
you now did your dad grow up with
5:39
Corvettes as well did he have Corvettes
5:41
before he had you oh yeah he had them a
5:42
long time before me I I was the Nam sake
5:45
to came after all of the passion so um I
5:48
know that he's restored quite a few c2s
5:50
are kind of his bread and butter okay um
5:52
which personally and that makes sense CU
5:54
Stingray is started well he spells it
5:58
Stingray not not Stingray two words two
6:01
words so how was it growing up with a
6:03
name like that it was fun was it I got
6:05
plenty of nicknames to go along with it
6:07
um it was what it was it's really cool
6:10
there a conversation piece it is that's
6:12
for sure now one of our friends uh Lance
6:14
Miller he puts on these group of
6:15
Corvette shows in Pennsylvania called
6:17
Carlile and uh he his daughter's middle
6:20
name is Corvette oh really I know that
6:23
Ella Corvette it's actually kind of
6:24
funny my mom always jokes if I had been
6:26
a girl my name would be Corey vet so I'm
6:28
thankful that I was not a girl that's
6:31
funny yeah well thanks for being here
6:34
yeah this is a great conversation and
6:35
good luck for the season we're going to
6:36
be watching and uh you know they do
6:38
these things occasionally and I love
6:40
covering them where they'll put like
6:41
between races especially when um the
6:42
Corvette is a pace car they'll put like
6:45
an experience driver with a rookie and
6:46
they do the course and they talk about
6:47
it and stuff and it makes for a great
6:49
video so you know try to get in on one
6:51
of those we love to see you there love
6:52
to and of course you know the pros
6:54
trying to uh scare the the rookie a
6:56
little bit so always always little shade
6:59
yeah all right well thank you so much
7:01
ding Ray thank you appreciate it thanks
7:03
a lot that was fun
