And a shout out to Canadian Corvette Forum and Corvette Forum, welcoming Corvette enthusiasts from around the
3:45
world. All right, everybody. It's time to bring you the latest Corvette news and headlines with my pal Keith Cornet
3:51
from corvette blogger.com. Keith is with me every other week. We keep you current and uptodate on what's happening with
3:57
America Sportscar. Keith, welcome back to the show. I was remiss in my duties. Our show, the News and Headlines show,
4:03
celebrated the start of year number five in September. That's a pretty big milestone, buddy.
4:09
It's a huge milestone. And it's just amazing that five years of finding news every couple weeks to be able to talk
4:14
about a car. People constantly are coming up to me and saying, "How do you do this full-time, you know, and it's just a car?" And I'm like, there is so
4:20
much news out there. There's so much interest in the Corvette that believe me, we'll find news. It's out there. It is out there for sure. Well, let's
4:27
start off, buddy, as we always do with a production update from the Bowling Green assembly plant. Absolutely. So, you know, we started the
4:33
2025s on September 9th, I believe, a Monday. And it's been interesting because there's two trackers that we
4:39
follow. Roger Kil's Facebook report, and then there's also the C8 tracker, which allows you to pull up the window
4:44
stickers. And their numbers for the beginning of the model year have just been a little weird. We haven't been getting updates right away. So, maybe
4:50
there was a quality control hold. Maybe there was something else going on. We do know that there was a bunch of constraints at the end of 2024 anyways,
4:57
so that might have spilled into 2025, but we did finally get some numbers later last week. We're showing a total
5:03
of 1,226 Stingrays, 516 Z06s, and then 63 - So
5:09
that's a total of 1,85 cars. 1,85 cars. But what's really interesting about that
5:14
is the number of Z06s compared to the Stingrays. I mean, that's nearly 45% or so. Much higher than the 30% that I know
5:21
that Chevy was wanting to do. So, you know, stingrays are 60%, the Z06s are at 30%, and then the E-Rays follow up at
5:28
10%. And that's where they were at the end of 2024, but the beginning of 2025s and things are a little bit different.
5:33
They might be doing some other things with the cars. There might be building shy. There's a number of times that the cars weren't being reported daily. So,
5:39
just could be something else going on, but we did want to make people aware of that. But, we are getting numbers. They're pretty good numbers. And again
5:45
with the still backlog of the Z06 is seeing that many built right away is just a testament to you give them time,
5:51
you give them the parts and they can build the cars. Absolutely right. And we had a new thing coming up. The build and price
5:56
configurator is now live for 2025 and with a new name. Yeah, this is pretty cool. So they call
6:02
it the build and buy configurator because what'll happen is as inventory normalizes through the model year,
6:07
dealers get cars and they have them on their lots. As you build a car in the configurator, they might say, "Hey,
6:13
there's a car that matches most of these specific items that you ordered at these dealers." So, well, you can say, "Well,
6:18
geez, I don't have to build a car. There's one right down the street that this dealer has." And that's why they call it the build and buy configurator
6:24
now because you can actually see live inventory updates as well. The big news is again 2025 building price
6:31
configurator came live on Tuesday, September 24th. And I got to tell you, Steve, I wasted nearly the whole day
6:36
looking at hysteria metallic on an e-ray. It allows us to see all three new colors and all the different
6:41
combinations of stripes and wheels and it's just a lot of fun especially when you have a personal connection to a car because we are buying a Hysteria purple.
6:48
Yes, it's still somewhat incomplete in terms of it's not showing all the photos for a lot of the options. You just see a Chevy
6:55
bow tie, but they'll get there. You know, they do this every year where they get the information out, it appears mostly right, and then some of these
7:02
individual images will sort of catch up to it. If you want to know where to find it, you go to chevrolet.com. You click
7:08
on the shop tab and then build and buy, you either scroll down to the bottom or you can actually click on the performance tab to pull up the Corvettes
7:14
and then you can pull it from there. And then also if you go into the individual cars like the Stingray or Z06, there's
7:20
usually a build and buy link right there on the individual car as well. Yeah, great to see the new colors. Gave us a
7:25
good chance to see the Z06s with the four different new wheels and of course the Stingray's got the Z-51 spoiler
7:31
that's different now. Some interesting things and of course habanero interior. Saw a lot of people played with that as
7:37
well. Nice. And I didn't go down that rabbit hole last week. I was lucky. I'm so busy with Corvette Today stuff. I didn't go
7:43
on the configurator, but I probably will this week. I know it's there and I it it keeps calling my name, Keith. I hate it
7:50
when that happens. I know it. I know it. And you're like, "Oh my god, I'm going to spend more money." Yeah, exactly right. And we got
7:56
something I think I might spend some more money on. We'll talk about that in a minute. Speaking of the 2025 cars, you
8:02
can now download the owner's manual for all the 2025 Corvettes. Yeah. So, the 2025 Corvette owner manual
8:08
is now also available at chevrolet.com. And this is great for people that are buying a 2025 car because you can go in
8:14
and just learn about your car, see some information, you know, find out how stuff works, so to speak. But it's actually for anybody that owns a C8. You
8:21
might want to log in and take a look at especially the latest service recommendations because we know a lot of that's changed over the years. you know,
8:27
stuff like the transmission filter replacement, when to change the transmission fluids. Really good stuff there. This owner manual only covers
8:34
Stingray and Z06. Believe me, we did look and see if there's anything ZR1 related in there and we came up blank.
8:40
Disappointed, but glad to see that Chevy knows what they're doing. At least, I'm glad to see that that's out. Now,
8:45
we do have the owner's manual available for viewing and downloading on corvette blogger.com or if you go to chevrolet.com. I believe if you scroll
8:51
down to the bottom, there's some places there you can find owner manuals at Chevrolet. Great. Here's the thing I might spend a
8:57
little bit of money on. They have a new trunk and frunk trim panels, which means the material inside for the 2024
9:04
Corvettes in three different colors. Yeah, but you know it's not carbon fiber though, right? Well, I know, but you have to make
9:10
different allocations other ways. Well, sometimes it's good for a little splash of color other than carbon fiber,
9:16
right? Perhaps these new dealer installed options will be something for you. We learned actually about these a couple months ago, but now we got pictures and
9:23
the pictures are pretty cool. I know some people are like, "Oh man, I can't believe they rolled out with something like that." And others like you are
9:28
saying, "Hey, I kind of like that." These are the suede trim panel kits. The LPO code is called SXB,
9:35
and it's the same sueded material like if you had a 3LZ or a 3LT car and you had like the upper level suede,
9:41
basically that microfiber feel. That's what's going to be lining the trunk. And it's done in interior colors. The first
9:46
three colors that they're coming out with are the natural tan, jet black, and then adrenaline red. When you open up
9:51
that frunk and you see that adrenaline red bucket, that whole thing wrapped in adrenaline red. Yep. Kind of cool. And I think that's what
9:57
you're probably going for as well. Exactly. They're expensive. Here's the deal. On the Corvette accessories page at
10:03
Chevrolet.com, these were showing price for $1,95. So that's what we posted. And then
10:09
afterwards, we had a couple of sales guys call us up and say, "Hey, you know, if you order this with the car, it's
10:14
$1,995." So $900 more. Yikes. I don't know if they're going to
10:20
adjust the Corvette accessories page price up or if they're bringing the other price down, but there's definitely a really wide discrepancy right now. And
10:26
these trim panel kits are only available for Stingray and Z06. The E-Ray's got a
10:32
slightly different shaped frunk. So, I think that might be holding that up. Although, there is another LPO code that
10:37
seems to be coming for on that as well. So, just stay tuned buyers. But for Stingray buyers, it looks like you're
10:43
ready to go. I might have that red one in my immediate future, buddy. for the frunk and the trunk. That might be cool.
10:49
Yeah, they look good. And they're dealer installed and they come with their own little warranty on it. So, why not? Hey, I might look into it next week.
10:56
That might be cool. Also, we found out some good news for the Z06 people. You're going to get improved Michelin
11:01
tires similar to the ones with the ZR1. Yeah. So, as Corvette engineers were developing the specs for the ZR1, one of
11:07
the things they requested improved was the Michelin tires. Ted said in an interview that because of the incredible
11:12
performance of the ZR1, they had to tweak the tire construction a little bit to bump up the spec. What we found out
11:18
was that GM uses this tire specification called tire performance criteria or TPC
11:23
and it measures various factors like wet and dry traction, efficiency, longevity, and then it gives it a number and then
11:30
they work with their vendors like Michelin to make a tire compound equal to that number, that spec. because the
11:36
ZR1 required a little bit more. They're matching now the Michelin tire set ZR1 spec, which will then downfilter into
11:43
the Z06 and even the -ray if you're talking like the 4S tires there. So, pretty cool to see you getting just a
11:49
little bit bump of performance because of the ZR1's now there, even though the Z06 remains the same. Yeah, it's good news for all future Z06
11:56
owners. That's for sure. Speaking of 2025 Z06s, it now looks like there's a
12:01
$3,000 gas guzzler tax regardless of what arrow you have on the car. That's right, Steve. So, back when the
12:08
2023 Corvette Z06 was first available, the gas guzzler tax was assigned to the car based on its fuel economy ratings,
12:14
and there's two tiers because of the big arrow package. So, it was priced at 2,600. We say priced, it's a tax, you're
12:21
being charged. $2,600 for a Z06 without the large arrow package or $3,000 for
12:27
Z06s with that large arrow package. When the 2025 configurator came out, we were started seeing these gaser taxes priced
12:33
at $3,000 across the board, no matter which package you purchased. And then later on we found out, yes, it was
12:39
confirmed by Chevrolet's Wendy Miller on one of the Facebook Corvette groups that regardless of aero package, it is now
12:44
$3,000 for the gas tax on Z06, which Steve makes us wonder what it's going to be for the ZR1 or even the Zora.
12:51
I know, buddy. I'm just going, "Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. Is it going to be an arm
12:56
or is it going to be a leg? Is it a first born or both?" Right. Right.
13:02

I'm your host Steve Garrett. With me is my partner in crime Keith Cornet from corvetteblogger.com.
16:43
Every other week, we keep you current and up to date on what's happening with America's sports car. In segment two, we
16:48
always cover Corvette racing and Corvette rumors. Let's start with racing. Keith, we look pretty good in
16:54
Fuji there. We had our best finish for TF Sport so far. Yeah, pretty exciting there. They really
16:59
coming around as a team. The World Endurance Championship was at Fuji International Speedway. I believe it was September 15th for the six hours of
17:06
Fuji. TF Sport, of course, racing the Z06 GT3R. They're our partners in WEC, the World Endurance Championship. Their
17:12
number 81 Corvette posted its best finish of the year with fourth place in the LMGT3 class. This car actually spent
17:18
significant times leading the race, but late contact kind of knocked it out of contention and of course it finished
17:23
fourth. It sounds like they had a really strong run there and again leading that class for anytime as successful. I would
17:30
say successful. Yeah, they weren't able to get there to the end. But same couldn't be said for their sister car, number 82, had a failed
17:36
starter during a pit stop and they lost 10 laps changing that out. Again, you see one car doing really well and while
17:41
the other one has some stupid little error happen to it, but they do seem to be coming around. The next and final
17:46
race of the WC season is in November. The eight hours of Bahrain on November 2nd will end out the season for the
17:53
World Endurance Championship. Sounds good. Also in Corvette racing at Indie, we had a podium finish, didn't
17:59
we? Yeah, this is always exciting. I would really like to go to this race, a six-hour battle of the bricks. They run
18:04
it on the road course for Indie. And what's interesting is they run it backwards. For the Indy500, they go
18:09
around counterclockwise around the oval, but for this, they run clockwise and then they take the pathway through the
18:15
road course there. That would just be a lot of fun. Of course, six hours at Indianapolis would be a blast. Antonio
18:20
Garcia drove the final three hours of his stint and was right there in contention towards the end. Again, some
18:26
back and forth factors knocked him down to third place, but they did take the podium there. Of course, there was a lot
18:32
of weather raining at the beginning of the race. Some really long yellow flags went on. The number four Corvette with
18:37
Tommy Milner and Nikki Casper, they finished 11th. They lost four laps after contact with another racer and they had
18:42
to bring in the car for some quick repairs. We're also getting some success in AWA racing in GTD. They finished
18:48
sixth in class and they won the Bob Aken Award for that round at Indianapolis. That Bob Aken award goes to the highest
18:54
finishing GTD entry with a bronze rated driver. And they've won this two or three other times. So they keep this up.
19:01
They actually could be awarded an automatic entry to Lemons next year. Wow. For having that award. The next
19:07
race for Corvette Racing is actually the final round of the INSO weather tech sports car championship. It's going to
19:12
be at Road Atlanta October 12th, the 10-hour Petite Lemon. They race into the darkness at Petite Lemon. Should be
19:18
pretty exciting. I haven't seen the updated chart yet to see where we are on that. I don't think we've really got a chance for it, but again, anything can
19:25
happen at Petite Lemons and it's always a fun race to watch. That is a fun race to watch. I like that a lot. Also in the rumors category,
19:31
Keith, this is one that I really thought should happen, but Mark Royce killed the rumor of Corvette going as its own
19:37
brand, not under Chevrolet. Yeah, he says that, but I mean, this is something that could be changed in a
19:42
heartbeat. Sure. He was on Jay Leno's garage with the new ZR1. And in the conversation, Leno
19:47
brought up the fact about how Corvettes are always seen as their own brand, even though they really are part of Chevrolet. And of course, we've been
19:53
hearing this talk for years about how Corvette could be split off from Chevrolet, be its own brand. I actually like the idea, especially when the
20:00
conversation starts talking about if there's going to be another SUV or a sedan in the lineup, you know, maybe
20:05
expanding. So, why not give it its own brand, right? I think the other benefits of course are sales and the service.
20:11
Imagine having dedicated service center for Corvettes. That'd be awesome. People that actually know how to work on Corvettes. That would be fantastic, too.
20:17
Mark says he's not seeing them letting Chevrolet let go of Corvettes, but again, anything could happen. Of course,
20:23
Chevrolet the roots are as a performance value for everyday people. The Corvette's kind of moving beyond that though a little bit, I think, with how
20:29
expensive these cars are getting and just the aspect of the mid-enine platform itself. Mike Royce obviously
20:35
has some insight there. So, we'll defer to the president of GM. Yeah, if you're the president of GM and you say Corvette is staying under
20:41
Chevrolet, it's probably going to stay that way for a while, I think. I think so. Yeah. Let's talk about the ZR1 because
20:46
the ZR1 is back at the Nurburg Ring testing, isn't it? Yeah. This was another story Mark Royce helped us confirm. He shared photos of a
20:54
Redmi ZR1 coupe inside the secret layer, that garage where they have the Zora
20:59
prototypes and there was also a US spec rapid blue Z06 in that photo as well. The ZR1 was then spotted later on on the
21:06
track at the end of the twoe industry pool session. Corbin engineers at Carile and at the NCM told us that they were
21:12
doing some further development of the car. Let's hope they're really getting to the end of it so we can get pricing and know when the car is going to go on
21:18
sale. Steve, I think the other reason the ZR1 was in Germany was most likely to run its official top speed at the ATP
21:25
track at Papenburg, right? This is the same test track where the C7 ZR1 performed its 212 mph top speed run
21:32
back in 2018. Yeah. And I think during the NCM Q&A could have been Carlile, but Josh Holder
21:37
confirmed the ZR1 was still needing to run that. It was going to be doing that at Papenberg. So, between having the ZR1
21:43
in Germany with the Nurburg Ring and then running at top speed, I think we're starting to really get close to having
21:49
all performance specs ready to go, hopefully again, we'll see this car on sale sometime early in 2025.
21:54
I can't wait for it, buddy. I know that they're really expecting big things out of that topend speed. So, I'm just kind of sitting on the edge of my seat
22:00
waiting to hear some times, that's for sure. And the Corvette team says they've been touting a speed. They call it
22:06
comfortably over 2015. Yeah. In these top speeds tests, what Chevy does is they do the test both ways
22:12
and then they average the results for their official time. So that way a really strong tailwind can't overcome a
22:17
headwind. So it comes up with that average time and that's what they call legit. Yeah, we're excited to hear that. And again,
22:22
anything over 250 mph again, unthinkable. Yeah, absolutely right. The other rumor
22:28
we've got, Keith, is Sport Auto had confirmed that the C8 Z06 ran the fastest Nurburg Ring time in 2024. It
22:35
had to be somebody outside the United States to get that confirmed time though, didn't it? It was. So again, this is this US Spec
22:42
C806 that we mentioned was at the Nurburg Ring with the Corvette engineering team. Sport Auto is a German
22:47
automotive magazine and they do a series where their same driver Christian Gart does a hotlap on the Nurburg and they
22:53
run everything, not just Porsches and Lamborghinis, but Civics and VWs. It
22:58
doesn't matter. They take these cars and they run them on the Nurburgg. The fact that they got a US spec car even makes
23:04
more sense for us and that's something we're excited about because obviously the US spec cars have a little bit more higher horsepower rating than the ones
23:10
that we are selling over in Europe. Right. While this is not an official time because it's not a factory time, people
23:16
have said this might be upwards of 10 seconds difference between an official factory time and sport auto time. But
23:22
the point is one driver drives multiple cars and so it is a benchmark. when he posted he did his drive and then
23:27
afterwards he posted on Instagram saying that it was the fastest car he had tested this year again stressing this
23:33
year. Yes. So we expect to have that lap in about 6 to 8 weeks when the magazine feature comes out. And of course we'll have the
23:39
result right here on Corvette today as soon as we get it. That's good enough for me buddy. I don't care if it's an American or a foreign
23:46
one. If they've got a American spec Z06 I'll take their time any day and especially on a clear course with a
23:52
guy that knows the track as well as Christian does. Right. Yeah. I would say that I'll take that because, you know, we're not getting
23:58
times from Chevy, so this is the next best thing. That's the next best thing. Exactly. All right. Time for our final break, Keith.
24:03
When we come back, it's the lighter side of Corvette on deck here on Corvette today.

27:19
my buddy Keith Cornet from corvette blogger.com. If you want a deeper dive into any of these stories we cover, you
27:25
can always go to corvette blogger.com. In this third and final segment, we always cover the lighter side of
27:30
Corvette. Keith, this was mind-blowing. A 67 L88 Stingray convertible hammered
27:36
at Mika Monterey for $2.1 million. Oh my gosh.
27:42
Yeah. So, you know, only 20 L8s were built for 67. And the very first of these was this black convertible. It was
27:49
sold to racer Tony Dorenzo who campaigned the car with Jerry Thompson in SECA a production races in 1967. So
27:56
then he sells the car in ' 68. It goes through a couple other people. Eventually its racing career comes to an
28:02
end and it's ends up restored by the neighbor brothers down in Houston and then certified Bloomington gold in ' 84.
28:08
It was the first 67 Corvette with the NCRS Zora Arcus Dunto Mark of Excellence
28:13
Award in 1985. Wow. And then eventually it won the Macaken triple diamond award in 2010. So this car is fully
28:20
documented. Original protective plate, original 67 title, trim tag plus testimony from Tony de Lorenzo backs up
28:26
all the originality of the car. So when this car shows up at Mika Monteray sale in August, bidding on it is pretty
28:32
strong. And this is a known car. It's been through Mikum a couple times recently. So really needs to find a long-term owner. During the runup of the
28:38
auction, when they hit 2.1 million, the reserve was listed and then it was confirmed sold. The out the-do price
28:44
with commission was $2,352,000 for this L8 Corvette.
28:49
Wow, that's amazing. Only 20 of these cars, maybe only 12 to 14 left, I think they people say.
28:56
Yeah, it's pretty cool to see. And again, these prices should be higher based on the car and the specs and of course the
29:01
originality of this car. Yeah, that's true. Very true. Also, this is kind of crazy. It was It was really
29:07
wild. I got to hand it to you guys in Cleveland. A Cleveland Browns fan turned a C5 Corvette into the ultimate tailgate
29:14
machine. Tell everybody what he did to this car. You know the NFL, Cleveland Browns fans, they love their football team. And so a
29:21
super fan named Raymond Frisbee used a 2004 Corvette convertible just to make the ultimate tribute to his favorite NFL
29:28
team. So he painted it orange and brown, which is the colors of the Cleveland Browns. And then over the years, he
29:33
assembled a collection of autographs from players and coaches that any sports fan would love to get their hand on that
29:38
car. just because of all the different people he had signed it. Raymond's nickname is Showd Dog and it's actually on the back of his license plate as
29:45
well. And he is known for tailgating outside the stadium at the runup for the games. His impressive display is amazing
29:52
because he's got like these external monitors showing replays and stuff like that. Wow. And then he's got these four
29:57
tribute guitars, a couple different players of the Browns displaying those on the rear. He says he gets requests to
30:03
come to different car shows and stuff because his car is well known in the Cleveland area. So that's pretty cool. The other thing cool about Raven, too,
30:09
is he is a former GM worker who's retired. No kidding. He's basically living the life right
30:14
now. Wow. That's That's pretty amazing. If you're watching this show on YouTube, we'll
30:20
have a picture of the car on there for you. You got to see it. Yep. You got to see it. Absolutely. GM also
30:26
donated a C8 Stingray to Wayne Community College, which I thought was really cool, Keith. The reason why they're
30:32
doing this is because they want tomorrow's technicians to really develop that understanding of how these things operate. You know, yeah, what they did
30:38
was Wayne Community College is part of the General Motors automotive service education program. A lot of these people
30:44
that go through this program will end up as GM certified technician, right? Really cool that they're given the
30:50
latest technology to work on as they're gaining their confidence and their skills as they're working towards their
30:55
degree. This Corvette joins a fleet of 32 other training vehicles already at Wayne Community College. And I think
31:01
last year GM might have donated a couple engines, including an LT6 over there. Wow. These guys are working on the latest and
31:08
greatest from General Motors. Good for them. Good for GM for recognizing that and getting these guys off on a great
31:13
path. Yeah, absolutely right. That's really cool of GM to do that. Our final story, Keith, this might have been better in
31:20
the rumors category. We had a ZR1 doing 170 mph and then just showing off doing
31:25
360 donuts over at Milford Proving Grounds. Yeah, this was pretty cool. This was all thanks to CBS Sunday morning who had a
31:32
feature with GM CEO Mary Bar talking about GM's push for that electric future. And so they were filming this
31:38
out at the Milford proving grounds. And so after talking to Mary for just a minute, then they switched over and said, "Yeah, not only are we looking at
31:44
future stuff, but we've got the latest and greatest Corvette, including the ZR1." So that same reporter went for a
31:50
drive in the 2025 Corvette ZR1 and his driver was the new executive Corvette chief engineer Tony Roma.
31:55
Wow. Pretty good to see that. So during the drive they reach speeds of 170 mph and then we also see the car like going
32:02
around 50 60 mph and then just locking up and doing a complete 360 at the Black
32:07
Lake asphalt area out there afterwards. And I wanted to make sure we talked about this because they had a sit down
32:13
with Tony and of course the question because they are talking about the electric future. The question about Tony
32:18
was asked if the Corvette would ever be powered by something other than a gas-powered engine. I thought his response was pretty good, so I wanted to
32:24
read it to you. He says, quote, "We talk about this a lot. I talk about this with enthusiasts, my friends, other
32:29
engineers. We're not going to apply electrification just for the sake of it. We don't put technology on just for
32:35
technologies sake. So, it kind of has to earn its way and it has to make the car better in some way that our customers
32:41
are going to respond to." I think that's an excellent answer. It shows that they are looking at electrification I think
32:47
but only as initially these performance adders like the -ray perhaps the Zora
32:52
eventually I think they'll get there but they are understanding that the Corvette enthusiast is not excited about a fully
32:58
electric future right at least not yet I know there's some Tesla plaid owners out there that also have Corvettes they
33:04
can't wait for a Corvette to be full electric for the majority of us we're happy with our gas engines that
33:09
beautiful exhaust sound like Tony's in tune with that as well so glad to hear that. Yeah, me too. That sounds good.
33:15
Well, buddy, thanks for being back on Corvette today. I know you've got some clean up to do. You live in Tampa. I'm
