Welcome to Corvette Today, the show that
0:06
talks about everything Corvette with
0:08
your host Steve Garrett, lifetime member
0:11
of the National Corvette Museum,
0:13
president of the Corvette Club of Kansas
0:15
City, Missouri, and radio disc jockey of
0:18
the number one radio station in Kansas
0:20
City for over 45 years.
0:23
Here's Steve Garrett.
0:28
Thanks for listening and watching
0:29
Corvette Today, the show that talks
0:31
about everything Corvette and the only
0:33
current podcast dedicated to Corvette.
0:36
I'm your host, Steve Garrett. I
0:37
appreciate you tuning in on this
0:39
Corvette Today Extra. Ed Holland Head
0:41
from Wheelcraft is back with me with
0:43
some incredibly exciting news. First,
0:45
buddy, welcome back to Corvette Today.
0:48
Oh, hi Steve. Thanks for having me on. I
0:50
appreciate it. You know, I've said this
0:51
before, but it bears repeating. You
0:53
know, Wheelcraft is truly honored and
0:55
grateful to be a sponsor of the Corvette
0:57
Today podcast. June is going to mark two
0:59
years we've worked together as a
1:01
sponsor, and we've enjoyed the
1:02
opportunity to learn and engage with
1:04
your fantastic audience. The podcast has
1:06
helped elevate awareness of our brand
1:08
and significantly grow our business
1:10
these past two years. Thank you.
1:12
Thank you.
1:13
If I might add, before we get started,
1:14
there are two other individuals that
1:16
have helped Wheelcraft enter and grow in
1:18
the Corvette market. And it starts with
1:20
our very first C8 customer. Gentleman's
1:22
name is Ron Summers from Northeast Ohio.
1:25
And we had applied our PBD bright chrome
1:27
on his Cadillac Escalade. And when he
1:30
took delivery of his C8 in July of 2020,
1:32
he called us, but we didn't own any
1:34
Corvette wheels in our inventory at the
1:35
time. Ron promised and begged us to
1:38
purchase a set to do an exchange with
1:40
him, and he promised that if we'd just
1:42
listened to him, we would be successful
1:43
in the Corvette community. And three and
1:45
a half years later, we're grateful for
1:47
Ron's persistence as we now set for
1:49
another milestone in our journey and
1:51
that we'll be talking about this
1:52
morning. But thank you, Ron, for being a
1:54
great friend, advocate, and a great
1:56
customer. The second person I would like
1:58
to thank is Mike Ferman. You Mike is one
2:00
of many household names in the community
2:02
and has helped mentor Wheelcraft's
2:04
growth from the day we met him. We
2:06
attended our first Corvettes at Carile
2:08
event in 21 and Mike found us in the
2:10
grass fields of the swap market area and
2:13
Mike immediately told us we needed to be
2:14
on the midway the following year. Mike
2:16
has also insisted we attend the spring
2:18
bash which we did for the first time in
2:20
22 and continues to offer advice on
2:23
driving awareness of our PBD chrome
2:25
finish. So from customer referrals to
2:27
recommendations on shows and events,
2:29
Mike has been a valued friend in helping
2:31
shape who Wheelcraft is today. Before we
2:33
talk about our next journey, I just
2:35
wanted to drop that in. Thank Ron
2:37
Summers, Mike Ferman, and you, Steve,
2:38
for being in our corner and helping us
2:40
grow the business.
2:40
Buddy, the pleasure has been all mine.
2:42
It has been an honor and a pleasure
2:44
having you as our signature sponsor of
2:46
Corvette today. And you're right, Mike
2:48
Ferman is one of a kind. Ed, let's talk
2:50
about two updates that you've done with
2:52
Wheelcraft that totally benefits the
2:54
customer. First off, you can now
2:56
pre-order wheels from Wheelcraft prior
2:58
to your PDI process. Isn't that correct?
3:01
That's correct. And we really encourage
3:03
people with new orders to contact us
3:05
prior to their build reaching the 2000
3:07
status. Our goal is to educate customers
3:10
on the process before they commit to a
3:12
wheel selection for their build. And
3:14
when making that selection, customers
3:16
choose the design and the wheel finish
3:18
that range from high gloss to silver to
3:21
polished aluminum, carbon flash, machine
3:23
face, and so on. So, since we then take
3:25
the OEM finish off of the wheels
3:27
completely, no matter what it is, it's
3:29
best to select the base model finish,
3:32
right?
3:32
We want to help customers save money and
3:34
get the look they want for their new C8
3:36
with our bright or black PVD chrome.
3:39
Even if our first contact with the
3:40
customer is after they have made the
3:43
wheel selection, we have a process in
3:44
place to have PVD chrome finished wheels
3:47
arrive at their dealership in time for
3:49
delivery. or in the case of an R8C
3:52
delivery, we will have the wheels staged
3:54
for installation immediately following
3:55
the delivery process.
3:57
Ed, that's fantastic. And that really
3:59
leads me into something that I think is
4:00
pretty groundbreaking. You can now order
4:02
Wheelcraft wheels and have them
4:04
installed on site at the Motorsports
4:06
Park right after you do your RHC
4:09
delivery at the National Corvette
4:10
Museum.
4:11
Yes, Steve, this is an exciting
4:13
announcement for us. In March, we
4:15
finalized our partnership with NCO
4:17
Motorsports Park to offer our PVD chrome
4:20
finishes and complete the wheel exchange
4:22
at the Motorsports Park immediately
4:24
following the R8C delivery experience.
4:26
Ultimately, we want to enhance the
4:28
customer's overall experience when
4:30
selecting the museum delivery option.
4:31
And our pre-modification process from
4:34
planning to delivery lets our customers
4:36
drive home with a wheel finish that
4:38
really completes the look of their car.
4:39
So, after customers take delivery, the
4:41
new owners now drive over to the
4:43
motorsports park where the talented team
4:45
led by Griffland swaps the wheels for an
4:48
identical set of the OEM wheels finished
4:50
in our bright or black PVD chrome
4:52
finish. And they remount and balance the
4:54
tires so you're driving home with the
4:56
look that you really want for your car.
4:58
That's awesome.
4:58
And then in addition to that expert
5:00
installation process, the Motorsports
5:02
Spark team has an exclusive offer
5:04
reserved only for R8C delivery
5:06
customers. So once the wheels are
5:08
installed, the team will take the
5:09
customers out on the track for a
5:11
one-of-a-kind photo session at various
5:13
locations along the course, including
5:15
the finish line. This is a special way
5:17
to cap off an exciting day taking
5:19
delivery at the Corvette Museum.
5:21
Wow, that's fantastic. Now, your bright
5:24
chrome wheels are far superior than
5:25
traditional chrome. Tell me more about
5:28
that process. Well, we believe
5:29
Wheelcraft has the highest quality
5:31
finish available in the market, and it's
5:33
really best to define what PVD chrome is
5:36
and give a little background to the
5:37
overall process to get us to
5:39
understanding why ours is so durable and
5:42
much better than traditional chrome. So,
5:44
PVD stands for physical vapor
5:46
deposition, and it's truly a process of
5:49
applying a micro thin layer of chrome
5:51
onto the entire surface of the wheel.
5:54
The traditional chrome process layers
5:56
material onto the surface through a
5:58
series of chemical baths in order to
5:59
achieve the chrome finish. The PVD
6:02
process on the other hand takes place in
6:03
a vacuum system where a solid material
6:06
in our case chrome is converted into a
6:08
gas and then that gas is then deposited
6:11
onto the wheel where it converts back to
6:13
a solid resulting in the chrome finish.
6:15
Wow.
6:16
So the chrome finish is applied to every
6:18
part of the wheel surface except for the
6:20
back plate of the wheel where it mounts
6:22
to the hub. We finish the inner barrel,
6:24
the rear of the spokes, etc. The PVD
6:27
chrome process creates an inseparable
6:29
bond between the chrome finish and the
6:31
underlying alloy of the wheel. And the
6:33
final step of the process is to apply an
6:35
acrylic clear coat that seals in and
6:38
protects the finish. So the extreme
6:40
durability of our performance finish is
6:42
due to the ultra thin thickness of our
6:44
application. And really a question there
6:46
is why is thinness so important? But the
6:49
thinner the film finish, the tighter the
6:51
bond with the alloy. The thicker the
6:52
material, the more susceptible it is to
6:55
chips, cracks, and peeling. So our
6:57
entire finish measures in the range of 6
6:59
to 9 mil of thickness. So in relative
7:02
terms, this is slightly thicker than a
7:04
sheet of paper that measures at 6 mil.
7:06
Wow. In fact, we outline and demonstrate
7:08
the entire DNA of our micro thin finish
7:11
on our website at wheelcraft.com. On the
7:14
our process page, we have photos and
7:16
videos that show the structure of our
7:18
finish compared to others and
7:19
demonstrate with a hammer how durable
7:21
the finish really is. There's also a
7:23
link to take a virtual tour of our
7:25
facility of the process page as well.
7:27
And that's really, really cool. I've
7:28
watched that a couple times and I love
7:30
that. Now, buddy, I'm not a big black
7:32
wheel kind of guy, but your chrome black
7:35
wheels have truly changed my mind.
7:37
That's pretty funny. You know, a lot of
7:39
people say that and our black chrome PVD
7:41
chrome finish is very unique. When
7:43
people think of black wheels, the first
7:45
image that comes to mind is a really
7:46
deep jet black finish,
7:48
right?
7:49
Our black PVD chrome is essentially a
7:51
chrome finish with a black undertone.
7:54
Black wheels are not for everyone, and
7:56
our black PVD chrome is a combination of
7:58
chrome and black to provide a rich
8:00
finish. And it provides a really unique
8:02
look to set the car apart.
8:04
It really does. Now, let's outline the
8:06
sales process of getting Wheelcraft
8:08
finished wheels for your car.
8:10
Okay. Well, first, our ultimate goal is
8:12
to educate our customers on our finish
8:14
and then help them acquire finished
8:15
wheels in the easiest way possible.
8:17
Every member of our team has a customer
8:20
first mentality. So, the process begins
8:22
when a customer learns we can help them
8:25
in the first place. We have wheels for
8:27
the C8, the Z06, -ay, and many other
8:30
generations of Corvette. But as I
8:32
mentioned, the sooner we're able to
8:33
connect and educate the customer on the
8:35
PVD chrome finish, the better chance we
8:37
have of helping customers save money on
8:39
their wheel selection for their build.
8:40
Customers can go to our website,
8:42
wheelcraft.com and submit a quote
8:44
request online or call us directly at
8:46
833639-4231.
8:50
So whether we're meeting the customer at
8:51
the early stages of their build process
8:53
or after they've taken delivery, we have
8:55
a process in place to help them make
8:57
this as easy and pleasant as possible.
8:59
So, we first identify the wheel they
9:01
have on their car or the wheel that they
9:02
will be selecting to finalize their
9:04
build. And then, as I mentioned, we
9:06
manage multiple sets of Stingray Z06 and
9:08
-ray factory wheels that can be finished
9:11
in advance and then installed on the
9:12
customer's car. The next step is to
9:14
settle in on a desired wheel finish,
9:16
whether it's bright or black PVD chrome,
9:19
and then we can also discuss custom
9:20
colors and finishes as well. So, we have
9:22
a process in place where we will even
9:25
ship a sample wheel face finished in our
9:27
bright or our black PV chrome so the
9:29
customer can see the finish firstand
9:32
before they even place an order with us.
9:33
Wow, that's cool.
9:34
It is a pretty neat process and
9:36
customers really appreciate and like to
9:38
have it in their hands when they see
9:40
exactly what they're going to be getting
9:41
from us. So, we then outline a detailed
9:43
quote. That quote includes the cost of
9:45
the exchange process for the finished
9:47
wheels and shipping. And if a customer
9:48
is planning for an R8C delivery at the
9:51
museum, the quote will include the cost
9:54
of installation at the motorsports park.
9:56
So from this point, we coordinate all
9:57
the logistics for the finished wheels to
9:59
be drop shipped to the motor sports
10:01
park, a car dealership or tire store.
10:04
Our entire touchless process makes it
10:06
easy for customers to get the look they
10:08
want without worrying about all these
10:09
logistics. And as I mentioned earlier,
10:11
the motorsports park team completes the
10:13
entire delivery experience for R8C
10:15
delivery customers with the exclusive
10:17
photo shoot out on the track.
10:19
Yeah.
10:19
So, the best place to start really is by
10:21
visiting our website at wheelcraft.com
10:23
or calling us at 833639-4231
10:27
and we can help outline the entire
10:28
process,
10:29
you know. And the beauty of all this is
10:31
you don't have to pay for your wheels up
10:33
front either. You don't even have to do
10:34
a deposit with your customers. Isn't
10:36
that right?
10:37
That's correct, Steve. You know, we
10:39
really have relied on the trust factor
10:41
for our entire existence. We don't even
10:44
have a core deposit and do not invoice
10:46
our customers until the finished wheels
10:48
are shipped to their point of
10:50
installation. So, we are so confident
10:51
our customers are going to love our
10:53
finish. We do not expect payment until
10:55
they have a chance to see the finishes
10:56
on their wheels even prior to
10:58
installation. In the case of the
11:00
installations over at the motorsports
11:02
park, customers will pay for the process
11:04
following the installation at the main
11:06
service desk at the park. Okay. So, how
11:09
and where can people get a hold of
11:10
Wheelcraft? One more time,
11:12
we encourage people to visit us at
11:14
wheelcraft.com or call the office at
11:16
833639-4231.
11:19
That's 833639-4231.
11:22
In addition, customers can request
11:24
information through the NCM Motorsports
11:27
Park website at motorsportsark.orgdely.
11:31
Nice. Ed, this is really cool and
11:34
incredible news. Anything else before we
11:36
go? You know, I just want to say thank
11:38
you for inviting us to announce this
11:39
exciting news of our partnership with
11:41
NCM Motorsports Park. From the R8C
11:43
delivery team to the outstanding people
11:45
over at the Motorsports Park, we are
11:47
really excited to help customers head
11:49
home with the wheels they really, really
11:51
want to finish the look of their car.
11:53
So, and as I've said many times before,
11:55
Steve, we're honored to be sponsors of
11:56
the Corvette Today podcast and grateful
11:59
that you help us deliver our message to
12:01
your followers. Thank you.
