And a shout out to Canadian Corvette
3:41
Forum and Corvette Forum welcoming
3:43
Corvette enthusiasts from around the
3:45
world. All right, my friend, it's time
3:47
to bring you the latest Corvette news
3:48
and headlines. Usually Keith Cornet from
3:50
corvette blogger.com is with me every
3:52
other week. Keith lives in Tampa,
3:55
Florida, and Keith has suffered from not
3:56
only Hurricane Helen, but also Hurricane
3:59
Milton. He's in the middle of recovery
4:01
for Hurricane Milton. He has no power at
4:04
the house, but everything looks pretty
4:05
good. I wish Keith and his family and
4:07
everybody in Florida a speedy recovery.
4:10
But we do have Corvette news and
4:12
headlines. Let's start off with the
4:13
latest Corvette production update from
4:15
the Bowling Green assembly plant. In
4:17
looking over Richard Ke's graphics, it
4:19
looks like last week in Stingrays. Now,
4:21
these are 2025 cars. They produced 740
4:24
Stingrays. The week before 714. I want
4:27
to give you the last two week update
4:29
because we reported on this two weeks
4:34
stingrays in the last two weeks. Z06s,
4:37
last week we did 51 Z06s and the week
4:40
before that was 115 Z06s for a total of
4:45
166. With E-Rays, last week they
4:48
produced 45 E-rays. The week before
4:50
50-rays for a total of 95. So, it looks
4:53
like production for the 2025 model year
4:56
is going along pretty good. In studying
4:58
this graphic that Richard Keel puts out,
5:01
it looks like the first two weeks of the
5:02
month go along pretty regularly, but it
5:04
looks like the last two weeks of every
5:06
month, it seems like production really
5:08
ramps up really, really hard. So, I
5:10
think numbers look pretty good and
5:11
things are going along pretty well. I
5:13
think that if you're getting a stingray,
5:16
you got lots to choose from. Also in the
5:18
news, there's a story about temporary
5:20
workers at the Bowling Green Assembly
5:22
Plant may be let go due to a
5:24
disagreement with the local UAW. Here's
5:26
the backstory on that. There's about 25
5:29
workers at the Bowling Green assembly
5:31
plant and then about 275 workers at the
5:34
Fort Wayne assembly plant in Indiana
5:36
where Chevrolet makes the Silverado and
5:38
the GMC Sierra pickup. Basically, what's
5:41
going on here is GM recently had sent
5:43
letters to local UAW leaders telling
5:46
them that if they didn't sign letters of
5:48
agreement, keeping the workers as
5:50
part-time temporary workers instead of
5:52
making them full-time temps or permanent
5:54
workers, they would be let go by the end
5:56
of last month. And that's according to a
5:59
story from the Detroit Free Press.
6:01
There's a GM spokesperson named Tara
6:03
Counan that said in a statement last
6:05
week, "Without those signed agreements,
6:07
provisions for the 2019 National UAW GM
6:10
contract allow the release of these
6:12
temporary workers at both of these
6:14
plants. In fact, the temporary workers
6:16
at Bowling Green Assembly have also
6:18
received a letter on September 27th
6:20
saying that would be their last day." GM
6:23
told the plant manager at Bowling Green
6:24
Assembly that he can have up to 80
6:26
full-time temporary people going forward
6:28
for the next quarter, but he's not
6:30
willing and wants to keep them
6:31
part-time. The union doesn't want to
6:33
string these people along as part-timers
6:35
when you can make them full-time. As a
6:37
matter of fact, the Bowling Green
6:38
assembly plant is understaffed and has
6:40
full-time openings. And especially with
6:42
the ZR1 coming out, when you have a
6:44
first launch like that, a product like
6:46
that takes a lot of manpower. We'll keep
6:48
on top of that story and find out more
6:50
and report back as we get more
6:52
information. Also, Chevrolet dropped a
6:54
new ZR1 video late last week. It's in
6:56
the Corvette Insider series. This video
6:59
featured ZR1 lead development engineer
7:01
Chris Barber. He talks about the turbo
7:04
driving experience of the new ZR1 and
7:06
how it can either be a borderline race
7:08
car or a daily commuter vehicle. And I
7:10
quote here from Chris Barber. I think
7:12
the most memorable thing about the ZR1
7:14
is going to be the turbo experience.
7:16
Turbo engines respond, you know, very
7:18
differently from naturally aspirated
7:20
engines. And we wanted to make the
7:21
entire car kind of align with that
7:23
behavior. And I think we really hit the
7:25
mark with this one. The ZR1 does not
7:27
taper off. It's very, very fast. And it
7:30
just continues to pull and really sets
7:32
itself apart from the competitions at
7:34
that high speed. Unreal performance is
7:36
hard to put into words, and the Corvette
7:37
ZR1 is a turbocharged superstar that
7:40
doesn't taper off. It's both a commuter
7:43
car and a street legal borderline race
7:45
car. Chris Barber again is the lead
7:47
development engineer and he explains how
7:49
it sets itself apart with 1,000 plus
7:51
horsepower at those speeds. As a matter
7:53
of fact, coming up on Corvette today
7:55
within the next four weeks, we'll have
7:57
Corvette brand manager Harlon Charles
7:59
talking about the CR1. And we'll also
8:02
have Jordan Lee, the global chief
8:04
engineer for small block engines for
8:05
General Motors. And also Dustin Gardner,
8:08
the assistant chief engineer for small
8:10
block engines for General Motors on the
8:12
show talking about the new ZR1. That's
8:15
coming up real soon. Also, speaking of
8:17
the ZR1, if you're wondering why there's
8:19
no active arrow, our retired executive
8:21
chief engineer Taj Jucker explains that.
8:24
And it's really pretty simple. For
8:25
years, there's been a rumor about the
8:27
eighth generation Corvette ZR1 having
8:29
active arrow. Now that it's a,64
8:32
horsepower and has officially been
8:34
unveiled, there's no active arrow system
8:36
to be found. Taj explains it's a very,
8:38
very simple explanation. He said in a
8:41
nutshell, no active arrow because the
8:43
fixed arrow that you see on Corvette
8:45
race cars does the trick. It's very,
8:47
very powerful. The lift to drag ratio is
8:49
really good. He says his engineering
8:51
team discovered that during development,
8:53
Active Arrow would have been just for
8:55
aesthetic purposes, which really goes
8:57
against Corvette's entire thinking and
8:59
philosophy. Taj says almost every Active
9:02
Arrow system that we've had the
9:03
opportunity to test, is there to make an
9:05
aesthetic possible. So, when the active
9:07
arrow is deployed, it's both lower drag
9:10
and more downforce. Because it achieves
9:12
both, why not just leave it deployed all
9:14
the time? That makes good common sense,
9:16
doesn't it? Taj also says it's not like
9:18
trading one for the other, so why not
9:20
leave it on all the time? That makes
9:22
sense to me, too. Our final news story.
9:24
Chevy has sent out an email saying that
9:26
there's a new software update
9:28
notification that requires a visit to
9:30
the dealership. So, one of the
9:31
advantages of GM's global B electrical
9:34
architecture is that the new C8 Corvette
9:37
can handle large amounts of data over
9:39
the air. So, Chevrolet has issued a TSB,
9:42
a technical service bulletin, and
9:44
updates your BCM software. It says the
9:46
BCM software in certain cars may be
9:48
preventing over-the-air updates from
9:50
progressing past the initial step. The
9:52
reason they want you to go to a
9:53
dealership is that this update
9:55
specifically targets the OTAA update
9:57
system. The new updates can be flashed
9:59
on your Corvette. The software update
10:01
should help fix those issues where the
10:03
battery may drain while the update is
10:04
being installed. If the battery drains
10:07
too much, the update won't be completed
10:08
and it could lead to other issues on
10:10
restarting your car. With the update
10:12
done at the dealership, the service
10:14
techs will be able to reprogram the BCM.
10:16
And GM says that this process should
10:18
take less than an hour. As a matter of
10:20
fact, I had mine done last week, and it
10:22
did take less than an hour. It was
10:24
simple, easy peasy. Let's take our first
10:26
break. When we come back, we'll talk
10:28
more about Corvette racing and Corvette
10:30
rumors up next here on Corvette Today.

14:05
with me every other week is Keith Cornet
14:06
from corvette blogger.com. Keith lives
14:09
in Tampa, Florida, so he's recovering
14:10
now from Hurricane Helen and also
14:13
Hurricane Melton. In this second
14:15
segment, we always talk about Corvette
14:16
racing and Corvette rumors. First off,
14:19
we'll talk about Corvette racing. We had
14:21
a race on Saturday last week. It's the
14:23
Petite Lama done at Road Atlanta. As a
14:26
matter of fact, three of the first year
14:27
Corvette Z06 GT3RS will be racing. This
14:30
will be their final race for 2024. the
14:33
number three and number four car for
14:34
Corvette Racing by Prattton Miller
14:36
Motorsports in the GTD Pro category
14:39
along with the number 13 GTD entry from
14:42
AWA. Here's the lineup that raced on
14:44
Saturday. Since we record this on
14:46
Friday, the day before the race, we'll
14:48
have the final results for you on the
14:50
next news and headline show coming up in
14:52
two weeks. But the racing lineup
14:53
includes Antonio Garcia, Alexander Sims,
14:56
and Daniel Junkadella that'll be in the
14:59
number three Corvette. Tommy Milner,
15:01
Nikki Catsburg, and Earl Bamber will be
15:03
in the number four Z06 GT3R. And then
15:07
Ory Fidani, Matt Bell, and Lars Kern
15:09
will be racing in the AWA Corvette.
15:12
Again, we'll give you results coming up
15:13
on our next news and headlines show here
15:15
on Corvette today. In the rumors
15:18
category, remember we were looking for a
15:20
Z06 time on the Nurburg Ring? Well,
15:22
Christian Ghart from the German auto
15:24
magazine called Autoport and their
15:26
series on the Nurburg Ring Super Test.
15:28
Remember, we had talked about previously
15:30
the Corvette engineering team took a US
15:32
Spec C8 Z06 on the Nurburg Ring in
15:35
September and did some testing times for
15:37
a couple weeks. Well, Christian reports
15:39
on his Instagram page that the Z06
15:42
Norwich lap was recorded and it was the
15:44
fastest autoport lap time in the 2024
15:47
season. He thanks the Corvette team and
15:50
also Michelin for helping them out. He
15:52
says you'll be able to read the results
15:53
in Autoport and watch the labs on the
15:55
Sport Auto YouTube channel. We'll be
15:57
looking for that. Hopefully in the next
15:59
two weeks or so we'll have that and
16:01
we'll post a video of it when it becomes
16:02
available. Also in the rumors category,
16:05
we think we saw some Zoras being tested
16:07
in western Denver, Colorado. Now, we
16:10
think that these are high performance
16:11
Zora hybrids, but we didn't get a chance
16:13
to get any pictures of the front grill
16:16
showing that hybrid cooling system
16:18
that's usually mounted on the driver's
16:19
front side corner. What we do see is
16:21
seven prototypes for the C8 in a hotel
16:23
parking lot, and they're obviously
16:25
covered, but they're ranging from base
16:27
models all the way up to Z06 style
16:29
wings. And then there's even a ZTK big
16:32
wing there as well. There's coups and
16:34
convertibles. And all this was posted on
16:36
the Colorado Car Spotters page on
16:38
Facebook. If the ZR1 is as good as it is
16:41
with 1,064 horsepower, can you imagine
16:44
what the Zor is going to be? Can't wait
16:46
for that car either. Let's take our
16:48
final break. When we come back, we'll
16:49
talk about the lighter side of Corvette.
16:51
Coming up next here on Corvette today.

17:08
Hey honey, are you awake?
17:12
I can't sleep. Since turning 50, I keep
17:14
dreaming of a red door and a blue door.
17:16
Somehow knowing there are only choices
17:20
Through the red door, we outlive our
17:22
money. We have to rely on our kids.
17:24
We're stuck on a fixed income. It's
17:26
Yeah, that would suck.
17:28
But through the blue door, our money
17:30
outlives us. We retire on our terms. Our
17:32
kids stay our kids, not our caretakers.
17:35
We make work optional.
17:36
Yes, that's much better. That's what I
17:39
want, too. But what do we do?
17:41
We call True Wealth and Company at
17:45
They specialize in helping successful
17:47
people make work optional. They're our
17:49
fiduciary blue door personal wealth
17:51
Hey, where are you going? It's 3:00 a.m.
17:54
I can't sleep. I'm going to check out

19:54
I'm your host Steve Garrett. Usually
19:56
Keith Cornet is with me. This is the
19:58
very first time in over five years that
20:00
unfortunately Keith had to miss. He was
20:02
right in the line of Hurricane Milton.
20:04
So Keith is back home recovering from
20:06
the hurricane. In this third and final
20:08
segment, we always talk about the
20:10
lighter side of Corvette and this story
20:12
is really, really cool. A complete set
20:14
of C4 ZR1s headed to Barrett Jackson in
20:17
Scottsdale last weekend. Now, obviously,
20:19
we don't have the results of this
20:21
because we recorded the day before on
20:23
Friday, but this is really, really cool
20:25
because they come from Montana collector
20:27
Dave Wrestler. Dave has always been
20:29
really well known in the Corvette
20:31
industry and the collector industry. He
20:33
sadly passed away in 2017. So, now his
20:36
family is starting the beginning of
20:38
selling off his extensive collection. He
20:40
has a complete set of ZR1s that are all
20:43
Bloomington Gold. They either have two
20:45
or three miles on the odometer. Heck,
20:47
some even have plastic still on the door
20:49
sills. But let me go over these ZR1's
20:52
because they are really, really amazing.
20:54
The first one is a 1990 black black ZR1.
20:58
The second one is a 1991 blue steel and
21:01
blue ZR1. Then he also has a 1992
21:05
white-on-white ZR1. And there's also a
21:08
40th anniversary 1993 ZR1. Also in there
21:13
is a 1994 Polo Green with a beige
21:15
interior ZR1, a 1995 competition yellow
21:19
and beige interior ZR1. These cars are
21:22
really cool and people are lining up to
21:24
get these cars in the next news and
21:26
headline show. We will let you know what
21:28
they sold for here on Corvette today.
21:30
Also, one of the new options available
21:32
for the 2025 Corvette is an engine
21:35
specifications plaque that gets
21:37
installed inside the engine bay. And we
21:39
got our first look at it for the Z06.
21:41
The plaque offers engine specs about the
21:43
LT6 Z06 engine. They will also have it
21:46
for the LT2 Stingray and the -ray, but
21:49
right now the LPO code is SL9 and it's
21:53
only $95, which is pretty cool. Right
21:55
now, they've got Z06 out, but basically
21:58
it sits on the seal right between the
22:01
engine bay and the trunk area. The GM
22:03
part number for it is 8781862.
22:11
We've only seen the Z06 spec plaque so
22:14
far, but we're looking for the Stingray
22:15
and -ray, which I'm sure will be coming
22:17
out pretty soon. Our final story, I want
22:19
to talk a little bit more about Keith
22:21
Cornet. As I told you earlier, Keith
22:23
lives in Tampa, and he's been in two
22:25
hurricanes in just 13 days. With Helen,
22:28
he almost lost his 66 Corvette. That was
22:30
his father's car. Unfortunately, Keith
22:33
has been having some carburetor problems
22:35
with the Corvette, so he left the
22:36
Corvette in the garage during Helen and
22:39
it almost came up and took the car.
22:41
Luckily, it didn't. It only came up
22:43
about 6 in. So, he was saved from that.
22:45
But, they had to pull his wife's horse,
22:47
there too many horses, out of the farm
22:49
area in the back and put them into the
22:51
backyard because there's only about 3 in
22:53
of water in the backyard. Ironically,
22:56
Keith also has a koi pond, and he said
22:59
there are some fish swimming in the
23:00
backyard, but once the water receded,
23:02
they all went back into the pond, which
23:05
worked out really, really well. They did
23:07
have a pig that didn't make it, and they
23:09
have honeybee hives that also got wiped
23:11
out as well. Luckily, the water receded.
23:14
I'm not sure exactly how he's doing with
23:16
Hurricane Milton. I know that it was a
23:18
much bigger storm, so they're in the
23:20
process of recovering from that. We wish
23:22
Keith and everybody in the state of
23:24
Florida, not just Corvette owners, the
23:26
very, very best. Hopefully, you haven't
23:28
been totally devastated. You'll get
23:30
power back and everything can come back
23:32
and you can recover very quickly. I know
23:34
that for Hurricane Milton, Keith was
23:36
able to move the Corvette into higher
23:38
ground into a public garage for parking
23:41
amongst a lot of Corvettes, Ferraris,
23:43
and Porsches. Thanks for listening to
23:45
our news and headlines show. All the
23:47
best goes out to my buddy Keith Cornet
23:49
at Corvette Blogger. hopefully a speedy
23:51
recovery for them and everybody in
23:52
Florida. We will talk to you again in
