3:57
America's sports car. Keith, welcome
3:59
back to the show. Everybody, including
4:01
myself, missed you on the last News and
4:03
the Headline show, buddy.
4:04
Well, I appreciate that. And the funny
4:06
thing is, I did get a couple emails
4:07
myself of people saying the same thing.
4:09
It was a very scary situation. We
4:11
actually had two hurricanes within two
4:13
weeks. The very first one, Helen, that's
4:15
where we got a lot of flooding and
4:16
that's where most of our damage came
4:18
from. And then they scared the crap out
4:20
of us. So, we left for Milton. That was
4:22
really a wind event here. So, there's a
4:24
lot of branches and stuff down like
4:25
that. The house came through okay. We
4:27
had very little damage. A couple things
4:29
got hurt, but for the most part,
4:30
anything that can be replaced will be
4:32
replaced. So, feel pretty good about it.
4:34
That's awesome, buddy. We're glad to
4:35
have you back.
4:36
Well, thank you so much.
4:37
Let's start off like we always do with a
4:39
production update from the Bowling Green
4:40
assembly plant.
4:41
Absolutely. So, our last count of
4:43
current 2025 Corvette Dins. We're
4:45
looking back at the last week and we see
4:46
that the Stingray is actually off to
4:48
another great start with 43 built while
4:50
the Z06 is at 1,027 and the -ay is at
4:54
228. So, we're looking at so far a total
4:57
of 5,258
4:59
Corvettes produced so far for the 2025
5:01
model year. Again, a great start. We
5:03
just started September 9th, so we're
5:05
well underway. We're going to talk about
5:06
this a little bit more in the 2024
5:08
production stats, but I went back and I
5:09
looked at the current breakdown for
5:11
these numbers. And right now, the plan
5:12
is building 70% stingrays, 19.5% Z06s,
5:16
and a little over 4 and a.5% or so-s.
5:19
It's still a nice mix in there. We'd
5:21
still like to see that -ay number come
5:23
up a little bit, but for the most part,
5:24
they are cranking out these cars. Seeing
5:26
really no issues.
5:27
That's great. And we also have
5:28
constraints for October, too, don't we?
5:30
Yeah, the last constraint report really
5:32
gave us some good news because now we
5:34
see that all three colors are available
5:36
for unlimited ordering. This is the
5:38
Sebring orange metallic, hysteria
5:40
purple, and the competition yellow. They
5:42
can be ordered across the board now.
5:44
They always did that little ramp up
5:45
first, but that's open for the Stingray.
5:47
Same old same old Q9I gloss black
5:49
wheels. And then there's a limit on 1LT
5:51
trim packages. For the -ay, this is
5:54
interesting because it's carbon fiber
5:55
related. Oh,
5:56
you couldn't get the visible carbon
5:58
fiber ground effects with the -ay. They
6:00
are only saving those for the Z06. And
6:03
those cars that have the high wings, if
6:05
you did the painted carbon fiber, you
6:07
have to pair that obviously to the
6:08
painted carbon fiber highwing. And then
6:10
the only other thing we saw was the
6:11
gloss black spider forged wheels for Z06
6:14
as well. We got some new stuff coming
6:16
online. We're still waiting to see some
6:17
of those new wheels, I believe, for the
6:19
Z06. For the most part, it's a pretty
6:21
standard constraint report from what
6:22
we've seen over the last few months.
6:23
All right, that sounds good. Then we
6:25
also had the 2025 officially arrived
6:28
down under, which is pretty cool, too.
6:30
Yeah, this is the 2025 model. So, when I
6:32
was looking at the production numbers,
6:34
there's actually kind of a gap in there
6:36
at the beginning of the 2025 model year
6:38
for the -ay. And it looks like, well,
6:40
hey, maybe that's what they were doing
6:41
is they were building some for export.
6:43
Australia and New Zealand got their
6:45
cars. That was announced by GM Specialty
6:47
Vehicles. There's nice because now you
6:49
got some comparison videos coming out
6:50
from some of the Australian magazines
6:52
down there that are driving the -ay and
6:54
the Z06. For those that are wondering,
6:56
the starting MSRP for the -ay in
6:58
Australia is $275,000.
7:02
That's Australian dollars and that's
7:04
also before what they call their on-road
7:06
cost, which adds taxes and licensing and
7:09
all some other stuff. And I hear that's
7:10
a hefty number as well. Again, if you
7:12
want to see some track tests of the -ay
7:14
and the Z06 together on YouTube with
7:16
right-hand drive configurated cars,
7:18
there's some cool stuff that's out there
7:19
right now.
7:19
And didn't GM Specialy Vehicles release
7:22
a new Corvette video, too?
7:23
Oh, Steve, it's so good. Yeah, if you
7:25
haven't seen this, it's really one of
7:26
the best overall Corvette commercials
7:28
I've seen. They call it Love is All
7:30
Around. It features a lady driving an, a
7:33
man driving a Stingray, and then there's
7:35
some back and forth on the track between
7:36
these two cars when suddenly a white Z06
7:38
comes up and joins the fun with them. I
7:40
said in my blog post that it's really
7:42
cool because the vehicles are doing the
7:44
talking, but the visuals from it, it's
7:46
like an emotional reaction from how the
7:49
drivers are feeling that fun and freedom
7:51
and the competition. So, I mean, it's a
7:53
really a fantastic video. Obviously,
7:55
would love to see that over here, but
7:56
it's right-hand drive cars, but it's
7:58
really one of the best Corvette
7:59
commercials I've seen.
8:00
Nice. And you can see it on corvette
8:01
blogger.com, so make sure to check that
8:03
out. Also, buddy, I was really excited
8:05
about this. We got a top speed for the
8:07
C8 ZR1 at 233 mph.
8:11
Again, once again, unthinkable, right,
8:13
Steve? I mean, no one, I don't think,
8:15
expected that. I think a lot of people
8:16
are thinking 212 was the C7. Maybe we're
8:19
looking at 220, 225, somewhere in there.
8:22
For them to go 233 is just amazing. This
8:25
was done with GM President Mark Royce
8:26
doing the driving. The test was
8:28
conducted at the ATP track in Papenberg,
8:30
Germany. And it was the same red miss
8:32
that we saw the Corvette team driving at
8:34
the Nurburg Ring last month. When Chevy
8:36
does these top speed runs, they actually
8:38
run in two directions and then they
8:39
averaged the difference. So the first
8:41
run netted a top speed of 233.08
8:44
and then their second run came in at
8:46
23350.
8:47
Again, amazing times. But here's the
8:49
thing. During the testing, they had five
8:51
engineers and then they had two ZR1
8:53
development cars and they all exceeded
8:55
230 mph across multiple runs. It's a
8:58
fantastic event. the video out there.
9:00
You got to watch it if you haven't seen
9:01
it. The ZR1 that they used is just a
9:04
standard chassis in the Aero package
9:05
with the standard low spoiler. Had
9:07
carbon fiber ground effects, Michelin
9:09
Pilot Sport 4S tires, and aluminum
9:11
wheels. I think other than some racing
9:12
seats, this is like the car that people
9:14
are trying to buy these days.
9:15
Yeah. You know what? I watched the video
9:17
and Mark Royce was obviously, like you
9:19
said, driving the car, but he had a
9:21
passenger. So, if you get a real race
9:23
car driver and no passenger, I bet that
9:26
ZR1 is going to go 235 plus miles per
9:28
hour.
9:29
It might have had it in there on one of
9:30
those runs if you would have had a good
9:32
tailwind on it, you know, might have
9:34
even been higher. We saw that I think
9:35
with the C7 ZR1, the difference between
9:38
the two directions was like 2 or 3 mph.
9:40
Yeah.
9:41
Here it was a very small window of
9:43
difference. So, again, 233 mph for the
9:46
Corvette ZR1. Amazing.
9:47
That is truly amazing indeed. If you
9:49
have a C8 Z06 with leaky engine coolant,
9:52
we've got a service bulletin all ready
9:53
to go to get that fixed.
9:55
Yeah. The good news is it doesn't look
9:56
that major. If you're seeing engine
9:58
coolant on the ground on the front of
10:00
the engine, this is for the 2023 and
10:02
2024 Corvette Z06s after the car's been
10:04
parked for a little while. It looks like
10:06
it's just a hose clamp. So, if you're
10:08
seeing that stuff, you might be able to
10:09
reach around there and look yourself,
10:10
but take it to the dealership. They'll
10:12
get investigated and hopefully remedy
10:14
the situation. But, it looks like it's
10:15
just a hose clamp that was improperly
10:17
installed. That's good. Maybe you just
10:19
tighten that thing up and you're good to
10:20
go then, right?
10:21
Looks like it. Yep.
10:22
Awesome. And we got 2024 stats for the
10:24
Corvette, which is great. This is really
10:26
early, too, isn't it?
10:27
Last year there was all that work. You
10:29
know, they had the extended year. They
10:30
ran 17 months for 2023. That's how we
10:33
got up to that 53,000 cars produced.
10:36
This was a more standard year. You know,
10:38
September and September. This is kind of
10:39
what I call a typical production year.
10:41
And I think this is what C8 planners
10:43
have been hoping for. In that run, they
10:45
produced 42,934
10:48
Corvettes. For the most part, there's no
10:50
supply chain interruptions or other
10:51
factors which significantly impacted
10:53
production during the model year. I'll
10:55
run through some of these numbers real
10:56
quick. I know doing numbers on podcast
10:59
is sometimes tough to follow along, but
11:00
I know people want to know this. So,
11:02
bestselling model by far, Stingray Coupe
11:05
with 42%. The Stingray convertible had
11:07
29.8%. That was followed by the Z06
11:11
coupe at 12.5%. And then the Z06
11:14
convertible with 12.2%. The -ray coupe
11:17
1.4% and then the -ray convertible 1.9%.
11:21
As we know, the -ray came in late, did a
11:23
really slow ramp up. I think the overall
11:25
numbers were like about 3% or so for the
11:27
-ay. Overall, it was a good production
11:29
number. I know people love to know about
11:31
colors. I'll just run through them real
11:32
quick. I won't give percentages. You
11:34
know, the first four colors are like
11:36
high and above the rest of them. So,
11:37
they're arctic white, torch red, black,
11:39
and red mist. And then we're followed by
11:41
a new color, Seawolf gray, hypersonic
11:44
gray, which is retired, riptide blue,
11:46
rapid blue, carbon flash, and then
11:48
amplify orange, again, retired color,
11:50
ceramic matrix gray, silver flare, and
11:53
then the last two colors, cacti, and
11:55
accelerate yellow. Accelerate yellow.
11:57
These produce color 2.6% and only 1,133
12:01
of those are out there. We also have
12:03
these figures for the external colors by
12:05
model. You can check that out on
12:07
corvette blogger.com. And then finally,
12:09
if you add up all the production numbers
12:10
in C8, we are at 169,134
12:14
Corvettes produced during the C8
12:16
generation. They are really moving some
12:18
Corvettes. I think we're going to have
12:19
another banner year this year.
12:20
I think so too, buddy. Let's take our
12:22
first break. When we come back, up next
12:24
is Corvette Racing and Corvette Rumors
12:26

15:58
I'm your host Steve Garrett. Back with
15:59
me is my buddy Keith Cornet from
16:01
Corvette Blogger. We keep you current
16:03
and uptodate on what's happening with
16:04
America's sports car every other week.
16:07
In the second segment, we always talk
16:08
about Corvette racing and Corvette
16:10
rumors. Keith, how did Corvette racing
16:12
do it in Atlanta for Petite Lama? And it
16:14
was just again another tough race for
16:16
both the number three and the number
16:17
four Corvettes. The number three car
16:19
actually had damage during the Thursday
16:21
night practice and they actually really
16:23
had to scramble to make the race on
16:24
Saturday morning. That number three car
16:26
would actually finish in fifth place in
16:27
class. They were actually able to be
16:29
competitive once they got back together.
16:31
The number four Corvette got hit by an
16:33
LMP3 car during the race, damaged the
16:36
front and rear suspensions and they
16:37
knocked them down like 50 laps. They're
16:40
actually able to repair, but once they
16:41
got out there, their race was basically
16:43
over with. The good news is that the
16:44
Corvette racing team won the IMSA
16:47
Michelin Endurance Cup Manufacturers
16:48
Championship. This is based on the five
16:50
IMSA endurance races that included
16:52
Petite Lemon. I think it's been a little
16:54
while since we won that one, maybe 2015
16:56
or so. Again, a really good result
16:58
there. And then our friends at AWA
17:00
Racing had some great news. They
17:02
actually had their ticket punched for an
17:03
automatic entry to the 24 hours lemon
17:05
next year because they won the Bob Akin
17:07
award. That Bob Aken award is given to
17:09
the team with the highest rated bronze
17:11
driver. Oay Fedani on the team is that
17:14
guy. And so they're going to Lemons next
17:16
year. So that's good news for them. The
17:18
Corvette Z06 GTDR program returns to
17:20
IMSA competition in January for the
17:22
Rolex 24. Steve, that's like only a
17:25
month and a half away or so.
17:26
I know. It's crazy how quickly this
17:28
goes. We're already getting ready for
17:30
2025.
17:31
Exactly.
17:31
Yeah, that's crazy. And we also had some
17:33
news from DXDT Racing. They're going to
17:36
go in the IMSA GTD class next year,
17:38
aren't they?
17:39
Yeah, they had that fantastic season in
17:40
the GT World Challenge America.
17:42
Obviously, Tommy Milner was one of the
17:44
co-drivers there, but they made the
17:46
announcement. They are moving up to
17:47
IMSA's GTD class with a single entry Z06
17:50
GT3R. Of course, Tommy won't be part of
17:52
that team, but now that gives us two
17:54
Corvette Z06s to root for in GTD in
17:57
addition to our two Corvette racing, GTD
17:59
Pro classes. Pretty exciting. Four cars
18:01
to watch for next season.
18:03
That's great. I love it. In the rumors
18:05
category, Keith, we think we saw some
18:07
Zora prototypes in a Colorado parking
18:09
garage, didn't we?
18:10
Yeah. So, Corvette engineers, they were
18:12
out doing some what we assume to be high
18:14
altitude testing. They were like at
18:15
9,000 ft. Wow. where they were. The
18:18
prototypes were actually discovered
18:19
parked in a hotel parking garage. A guy
18:22
videotaped that and shared it with Mike
18:24
Brink on the Brink of Speed YouTube
18:25
channel. He actually got some great
18:27
looks at these cars. Looking at it
18:28
head-on, we see that -ay style cooling
18:30
radiator on the front driver's side of
18:32
the car, which tells us that these are
18:34
most likely the Zora prototypes. The
18:36
really interesting thing is that the guy
18:37
who captured the video says he was able
18:39
to see inside the engine hatch on one of
18:41
the Zoros. And he says it resembled the
18:43
ZR1's LT7 twin turbo engine, but instead
18:46
of that blue cover, it has a black cover
18:48
on it. Again, we're thinking, wow, if
18:50
this is the Zora's hybrid system,
18:52
similar to the E-Ray, we could be
18:54
looking at 1,224 horsepower combined.
18:57
Again, no one would have thought that
18:58
just a few years ago. If that's what it
19:00
is, man, that's just going to be
19:02
fantastic. And it gives us something
19:03
else to target some more expensive cars
19:06
to go after.
19:06
Yeah, that's incredible. 1,224
19:09
horsepower would be unbelievable.
19:11
Unthinkable, Steve. Unthinkable.
19:12
Unthinkable is the word for sure. All
19:15
right, buddy. Time for our final break.
19:16
When we come back, it's the fun, lighter
19:18
side of Corvette. Up next on Corvette

19:36
Hey honey, are you awake?
19:38
I am now.
19:39
I can't sleep. Since turning 50, I keep
19:41
dreaming of a red door and a blue door.
19:43
Somehow knowing there are only choices
19:45
for retirement.
19:46
Okay.
19:47
Through the red door, we outlive our
19:49
money. We have to rely on our kids.
19:51
We're stuck on a fixed income. It's
19:53
terrifying.
19:54
Yeah, that would suck.
19:55
But through the blue door, our money
19:57
outlives us. We retire on our terms. Our
20:00
kids stay our kids, not our caretakers.
20:02
We make work optional.
20:04
Yes, that's much better. That's what I
20:06
want, too. But what do we do?
20:08
We call True Wealth and Company at

I'm your host Steve Garrett. With me is
22:22
Keith Cornet from Corvette Blogger. If
22:24
you want a deeper dive into any of the
22:26
stories that we cover on the show, you
22:28
can always go to corvette blogger.com.
22:30
In this final segment, we always cover
22:32
the fun lighter side of Corvette. Keith,
22:34
this is great. From the National
22:36
Corvette Museum, Amy Harden is returning
22:38
and she's now development director at
22:40
the museum. Amy was previously with the
22:42
NCM from 2018 to 2020 as a director of
22:45
philanthropy and she's responsible for
22:47
developing, establishing, and carrying
22:48
out effective multi-year fundraising
22:50
programs and other activities to support
22:52
the National Corvette Museum. I thought
22:54
this was interesting because you had
22:55
talked about this before, Steve. One of
22:57
her previous signature accomplishments
22:59
at the NCM was developing the Elfie
23:01
Silver Pearl Sisterhood Group.
23:03
Yes.
23:04
And then she also helped secure funding
23:05
for the E. Pierce Marshall Performance
23:07
Gallery. Very glad to have Amy back to
23:09
the National Corvette Museum and looking
23:10
forward to saying hi to her at the bash
23:12
next April.
23:13
Yeah, we're gonna have Amy on the show
23:14
as a matter of fact coming up pretty
23:16
soon. It's great to have Amy back at the
23:18
museum. We always talked about the C8
23:20
ZR1 going 233 mph. We had a 2006
23:24
Corvette Z06 with an LS engine running a
23:28
standard mile at a record 264 mph. Wow.
23:33
Again, amazing speed. This is a twin
23:34
turbo Corvette with a built motor. I
23:37
think it's got really big turbos on it
23:38
like the ZR1 76 millimeters maybe.
23:40
Nice.
23:41
But it makes 2200 horsepower and it's
23:43
street legal. He actually had some
23:45
engine issues during the event. So he
23:47
only got that one run in, but that one
23:50
was all he needed to set that record.
23:51
Kelly Beast, I believe his name is
23:53
263.93
23:55
mph in a standing mile. Just amazing.
23:58
That's incredible. And this next story
24:00
probably should have been in our rumors
24:01
section, but we think that the Zora is
24:03
benchmarked by the McLaren and the
24:05
Ferrari hypercars, not just the regular
24:08
cars.
24:08
Yeah, we got two new competitors for the
24:10
Zora. So, I know that's one of the
24:12
things that we'll be interested in
24:13
seeing. Let's talk about them real
24:15
quick. McLaren W1. Yes,
24:17
a performance hybrid with 1,258
24:20
horsepower. Weighs only 3,300 lb. I
24:23
think it's based on some of their F1
24:24
work that they've done before. And then
24:26
in the other corner of this contender,
24:28
Ferrari F80, a 3 L twinturbo V6 with
24:31
three electric motors to make 1,184
24:34
horsepower. Both of these cars will
24:36
feature seven bigger price tags. The W1
24:38
starts at 2.1 million and the F80 will
24:41
set you back 3.925 million. And that's
24:43
the start, you know, oh, if I want that
24:45
paint, that's going to add 25,000. If
24:47
you want this, it's going to add 30,000.
24:48
So, it's probably pretty interesting.
24:50
But meanwhile, you know, we've got our
24:52
Corvette team. If we're going to get
24:54
that 1,224 out of the Zora, we might be
24:57
a little competitive. Although, we're
24:58
definitely going to be a little bit
24:59
heavier than these cars.
25:00
Yeah. And for the McLaren, the W1
25:02
replaces the F1 and the P1. So, that's
25:05
going to be their new halo car. And then
25:07
for Ferrari, the F80 will replace the
25:10
LaFerrari. So, these are big, big cars
25:12
that haven't even really come out yet.
25:14
So, the Zor is going to be really
25:16
benchmarked against some really really
25:17
great cars.
25:18
Yeah. I wonder if somebody from GM's
25:20
going to make the pitch, hey, you know,
25:21
we need to buy a new F80 to, you know,
25:23
test it out against our cuz that's what
25:25
they did with the SF90.
25:27
Yeah, that's basically true, isn't it?
25:29
Uhhuh.
25:29
Well, that'd be pretty cool. And got
25:31
some great competition for sure. You
25:33
know, Keith, I was watching television.
25:35
I saw this Pepsi commercial and there's
25:36
a blue C8 Corvette in the commercial.
25:38
What's going on with that?
25:40
Yeah, I was watching the baseball
25:41
playoffs and there it was. I'm like,
25:42
I've not seen this before. In the
25:44
commercial, they call it Chase Your
25:46
Pizza with Pepsi. And the premise of the
25:48
commercial is that Pepsi reps in the C8
25:50
Corvette are essentially chasing down
25:52
pizza delivery drivers and they run up
25:54
to the door and they offer the customers
25:55
a 12-pack of Pepsi to chase your pizza
25:57
with. We've actually found the
25:59
commercial to be pretty hilarious. I
26:01
think one of the funniest parts is at
26:02
the end the Stingray is doing donuts and
26:04
you hear the passenger say there's
26:06
nothing to grab onto as he's trying to
26:08
hold himself steady. So, see, even the
26:11
Pepsi man thinks that the C8 should have
26:12
a grab handle for those quote shut the
26:15
front door moments.
26:16
Oh, yeah. For sure. Our final story,
26:18
buddy. This is actually pretty cool.
26:20
Nicholas Cage just sold a 1969 Corvette
26:23
on Bring a Trailer.
26:24
Yeah. Actually, it wasn't him, but it
26:26
was a car that he previously owned.
26:28
Okay. You know, he had a pretty
26:29
extensive collection going back. This is
26:31
just one of his cars. It's a beautiful
26:33
Cortez silver interior, 427 with a 390
26:37
horsepower V8 in it. The auction ended
26:39
with the car selling for 55,553.
26:42
So, got a really good price on a 427
26:45
1969 Corvette. The providence of having
26:47
something owned by Nicholas Cage would
26:49
be pretty cool.
26:50
My wife would like to have that car.
26:51
She's a big Nicholas Cage fan. I wish I
26:53
had known I would have been on it on
26:55
bringing a trailer for her. So, here
26:57
honey, here's a Corvette for you. And it
26:58
used to be owned by Nicholas Cage.
27:00
There you go.
27:01
You're welcome very much.
27:03
Well, buddy, it's great to have you back
27:05

27:07
