corvette today
2:43
well thank you so much steve i'm so
2:44
happy to be here today i'm glad to have
2:46
you on the show buddy
2:47
first of all tell us what dealership you
2:49
work for and what city are you located
2:51
in
2:52
so i'm born and raised in london ontario
2:54
and that's exactly between detroit
2:56
and toronto right into between a little
2:58
lower area
2:59
in ontario and london ontario and yeah
3:01
it's really close to a lot of american
3:03
friends and i'm very excited to see the
3:05
border open up very soon
3:06
i hope it does and what is the
3:08
dealership's name so i work at cinch
3:10
chevrolet cadillac buick gmc
3:12
we actually can sell all four of the gm
3:14
brands at my location
3:15
very nice now what get you started in
3:17
the car industry morgan
3:18
well i got out of school i was 21 years
3:20
old i had no idea what i wanted to do so
3:22
my dad asked me to make a list of all my
3:24
top 20 interests
3:26
i gave him that list and he scratched
3:27
out the bottom 19. he gave me back the
3:29
piece of painter and pointed at number
3:31
one and said
3:32
this is what you need to do top item on
3:34
my list was cars
3:35
and i think that was the first time that
3:37
i realized that i could turn an interest
3:38
into a career
3:39
and i haven't looked back that's awesome
3:41
now what drew you to corvette
3:43
every summer there's a little town on
3:45
lake huron called bayfield
3:47
and every year they had this festival
3:49
called that fest i'll never forget the
3:51
first time i saw that parade of
3:52
corvettes doing on main street
3:53
it made a lasting impression that
3:54
sparked a lifelong interest in all
3:56
things corvette
3:57
that's really cool now how large is
4:00
finch chevrolet's allocation and where
4:02
do they rank amongst other canadian
4:04
dealerships
4:05
so we actually only got our corvette
4:06
license about six years ago so right at
4:08
the very beginning
4:09
of the c7 generation and we only got
4:12
three corvettes in the first year i've
4:14
been selling for about 11 years so i had
4:15
about two or three years of experience
4:17
before that you know you get your
4:19
experience you're in the trenches
4:20
learning how things go so
4:22
the corvette experience kind of started
4:24
for me right around the time that we got
4:25
our license and we only even got three
4:27
corvettes in the first year
4:28
we started accepting as many corvette
4:30
orders as possible to just create a
4:32
larger allotment from gm
4:34
so we would do for example take on 25
4:36
extra chevrolet cruises in hopes that
4:38
they would award us some more allotment
4:40
and by the end of 2019 so the end of the
4:42
summer we had about 230 days of
4:45
inventory on ground for general motors
4:47
across all the dealerships in north
4:49
america so there was a lot of corvettes
4:51
on the ground at the end of this and i
4:53
remember that we doubled down
4:54
and we ordered one and a half million
4:56
dollars more in corvettes than we
4:57
normally would
4:58
wow and that was really where my element
5:00
helped out i like to design
5:02
and get corvettes that i don't even know
5:04
the owner of i would start to design
5:05
them give them names and everything like
5:07
that and by the time they hit the lot
5:08
they kind of looked like their own
5:09
special editions and that really helped
5:11
out in us
5:12
making it so that we were one of the top
5:13
dealerships in canada for corvettes by
5:15
the end of the c7 generation
5:17
that's amazing good for you how many
5:19
corvettes are sold in canada during a
5:21
calendar year or a model year morgan
5:23
so it's actually quite a large amount
5:25
and you got to think up until the sea
5:26
generation most people don't drive their
5:28
corvettes all year round
5:30
we have about 10 percent of the
5:32
population of the u.s
5:33
and it translates almost to the exact
5:35
same amount per core vet sale so for
5:36
example in 2019
5:38
there was 2 986 corvettes that were sold
5:41
and relative to the population it's
5:43
about 10 of the total allotment for
5:45
2019. so we're right on track
5:47
in that round but in 2020 with the
5:49
pandemic and the global supply chain
5:51
having some constraints we only had
5:53
1490 corvettes come to canada but i'm
5:55
optimistic that we can continue to make
5:57
an even larger market share even though
5:59
the right-hand drive corvettes are
6:00
starting to be built
6:01
that's true now at finch chevrolet i
6:03
know you said you started with the c7
6:05
generation
6:06
you're the corvette specialist for finch
6:08
chevrolet isn't that right
6:09
yeah well i guess you could say that i
6:12
started out right at the beginning of
6:14
the c7 generation which was perfect for
6:15
me
6:16
i remember even going to the detroit
6:17
auto show on media day and seeing then
6:19
vice president joe biden who was a huge
6:21
corvette fan
6:22
checking out a cyber grade c7 on display
6:25
i would consider myself a corvette
6:26
specialist but it took me six years
6:28
before i really had built this program
6:30
to what it is today and that was really
6:32
when i got completely inundated into the
6:34
corvette we had dozens of models to sell
6:36
at gm so it's a big risk to focus most
6:38
of my time on one model so i'd also
6:40
consider myself a cadillac specialist
6:41
and i'm also getting ready for my next
6:43
project which is our soon to be coming
6:45
ed vehicle fleet very nice now how many
6:48
corvettes do you think you've sold in
6:49
your automotive career so far
6:51
oh oh boy well given the magnitude of
6:54
mike pervin's recent accomplishments of
6:55
5000 i'm embarrassed to even say
6:58
every year that the c7 generation we
7:01
were exponentially increasing our
7:02
allotment
7:03
if i was to guess i would say that we're
7:04
going to be hitting our first milestone
7:06
of 500 in probably the next few years
7:08
i'm gonna actually go back and do an
7:10
audit with my dealership controller to
7:11
try to find the exact person so that we
7:13
can make sure we have a special corvette
7:15
delivery for that 500th person
7:17
and i was also keeping track of the c8s
7:19
a lot more and i know that i've sold
7:21
158 c8s as of today some of those won't
7:24
be delivered though obviously because i
7:25
haven't even announced the build date
7:26
for the 06.
7:27
gotcha well that's great though you're
7:29
off to an outstanding start
7:31
yeah i'm very happy with how things are
7:32
going morgan let's take our first break
7:34
and when we come back in segment number
7:36
two
7:36
we're going to talk about the canadian
7:38
corvette on corvette today

8:10
hey honey are you awake um i am now
8:13
i can't sleep since turning 50 i keep
8:16
dreaming of a red door and a blue door
8:18
somehow knowing
8:18
there are only choices for retirement
8:21
okay
8:22
through the red door we outlive our
8:24
money we have to rely on our kids
8:26
we're stuck on a fixed income it's
8:27
terrifying yeah
8:29
that would suck but through the blue
8:30
door our money outlives us
8:32
we retire on our terms our kids stay our
8:35
kids
8:35
not our caretakers we make work optional
8:38
yes
8:39
that's much better that's what i want
8:41
too but what do we do
8:42
we call true wealth and company at

9:08
llc a registered investment advisor in
9:10

9:13
and now back to corvette today with your
9:16
host
9:17
and my husband steve garrett hey thanks
9:20
for listening to corvette today the
9:22
podcast that talks about everything
9:23
corvette i'm your host steve garrett
9:25
with me today is morgan crosby
9:27
from finch chevrolet in london ontario
9:30
canada in the second segment we're going
9:32
to talk about the canadian corvette
9:34
morgan talk about the differences
9:35
between the canadian corvette
9:37
and the american corvette so we're a
9:39
bilingual country which means that all
9:41
the labels have to be in french and
9:43
english
9:44
and we also use the metric system so us
9:46
connects up here we use a different way
9:48
of measuring distances and so that's one
9:49
of the biggest differences
9:51
and then we also unfortunately can't do
9:52
a national corvette museum delivery
9:54
because the vehicle has to be delivered
9:56
up in canada oh so vice versa as well
9:58
i can't even buy a corvette off of an
10:01
american lot
10:02
interesting now do canadian dealerships
10:04
get the same amount allocation wise as
10:06
american dealerships then
10:08
well it's really difficult to say if we
10:09
do or not because it's a turn and earn
10:11
strategy with gm
10:12
you know your allotment is determined by
10:14
a lot of different things just off the
10:16
top my head
10:16
your previous year in sales of how many
10:19
corvettes you sold
10:20
how long did it take you to sell those
10:22
so from the time that the corvette
10:23
arrived to the time that you sold it and
10:25
it was reported
10:26
that's something that they also take
10:28
into consideration and then also just
10:30
how many gm vehicles you sell in general
10:32
and i know that that's a difficult thing
10:33
for some dealerships that are just
10:35
chevrolet alone but for us
10:36
we have luckily all different brands
10:38
that we can sell and so that's also
10:40
taken into consideration of your
10:41
allotment and i'm very fortunate that
10:43
not only are we one of the top
10:44
dealerships for corvette sales
10:46
but we're also one of the top
10:47
dealerships for total sales which really
10:49
helps out in guaranteeing that i have a
10:50
healthy amount of corvettes moving
10:52
forward
10:52
absolutely right now morgan talk about
10:54
okay if somebody orders a corvette there
10:57
in canada
10:58
and the order goes into gm and it goes
11:00
to bowling green to be built
11:01
what's the turnaround time what's the
11:03
delivery time versus like an american
11:05
dealership
11:06
because the border and customs and
11:08
things like that you know what
11:10
there really isn't no difference at all
11:11
the geographic location is really going
11:13
to be the biggest factor in determining
11:15
this
11:15
and i do like to try to cover that a lot
11:17
in my channel in terms of the logistics
11:19
and interviewing the truck drivers when
11:21
they come in because that's usually one
11:22
of my best insights on trying to see
11:24
where
11:25
the logistics and where the corvettes
11:26
are being delivered and how things are
11:28
going
11:28
the biggest update recently was that
11:30
they're going to be using jack hooper
11:32
transport
11:33
to deliver all the trucks to the west
11:34
coast and that was a massive improvement
11:36
in terms of being able to get your
11:37
corvette sooner
11:38
so i would honestly say that it has more
11:40
to do with where your dealership
11:42
is let's say that you're in vancouver or
11:43
seattle i would say that you're going to
11:45
have almost the same time whereas if i'm
11:47
here in london ontario canada and you
11:49
had a corvette order in detroit they
11:50
would be coming around the same time as
11:52
well
11:52
i was worried about it being held up at
11:54
customs a little bit more
11:55
but it sounds like you guys can get your
11:57
deliveries just as quickly as any
11:59
american dealership then
12:00
yeah we're very fortunate talk about
12:02
pricing for corvette in canada morgan
12:04
what's the difference in pricing with us
12:07
versus canada
12:08
well i've become almost like a currency
12:10
expert and trying to learn the exchange
12:12
rate and also trying to do metric to
12:14
imperial and stuff the corvette is a
12:16
bargain based on the msrp
12:17
price when you translate the actual msrp
12:20
it's about 18 and a half percent and the
12:23
exchange rate as of right now is about
12:25
26 on the dollars it usually sticks in
12:27
around the 20 to 30 range and so
12:29
there is a slight discount that you get
12:31
when you compare to that but we also
12:32
have higher taxes here so for example
12:34
in ontario we have a 13 tax rate so it
12:37
kind of balances it out in the end
12:38
can you deliver a canadian corvette to
12:40
an american i know you said you can't do
12:42
the other way around but can you deliver
12:44
a canadian corvette if someone comes
12:46
across the border to buy one from you
12:48
yeah you can indeed i call it a free
12:50
willy it's when we repatriate a corvette
12:52
and as long as it has 12 000 kilometers
12:55
on it and it's over a year old we
12:56
absolutely can deliver a corvette to the
12:58
america
12:59
that's really cool to know now you know
13:01
harlan charles says that the c8 is a
13:03
four season car
13:04
i bet you got a few stories of winter
13:06
driving with either the c7 or the c8
13:08
corvette right
13:10
yeah i definitely do the sea end is
13:12
definitely the fanciest snowmobile in
13:14
the world and i absolutely love it
13:15
i have a few videos actually on my
13:17
channel where i'm driving it in the snow
13:18
and
13:18
in one of them i've even got about two
13:20
feet of snow and i'm just like a pig in
13:21
the mud driving my corvette around in
13:23
the snow it was really fun
13:24
so driving in the c7 is a little bit
13:27
different though
13:27
i would highly recommend getting winter
13:29
tires and
13:30
mainly because there's not a lot of
13:32
weight in the rear end of a c7
13:34
you know you got that awesome big trunk
13:35
there's a transmission back there but
13:37
unlike the corvette it doesn't have the
13:39
weight over the rear axle that's going
13:40
to help push that tire down and get you
13:42
back in touch with the road
13:44
and so if anyone's interested in doing
13:46
this i would highly recommend getting a
13:47
set of winter tires but if you have a c8
13:49
you're in for a treat that's really cool
13:51
as a matter of fact let's take our
13:53
second break morgan
13:54
and when we come back we're going to
13:55
talk more about your social media your
13:57

15:03
you're listening to the corvette today
15:04
podcast with steve garrett
15:08
hey thanks for listening to corvette
15:10
today the podcast that talks about
15:11
everything corvette i'm your host steve
15:13
garrett with me today from the great
15:15
white north is morgan crosby
15:17
morgan is a corvette specialist over at
15:19
finch chevrolet
15:20
in london ontario in this third and
15:22
final segment we're going to talk about
15:24
morgan's social media outlets
15:26
morgan you have a hugely successful
15:28
youtube channel
15:29
tell us about that how many subscribers
15:31
you've got and how often do you put out
15:33
videos
15:34
well i'm very fortunate to have a decent
15:36
following on youtube
15:37
we kind of created the pun name cards in
15:39
crosby march of last year
15:40
just to kind of document my automotive
15:42
adventures and it kind of took off from
15:44
there i didn't really expect it to take
15:46
to that level and being yourself on
15:48
current driver magazine online and
15:49
seeing articles getting shared it was
15:51
really something that just became
15:52
intoxicating and i really gave me a lot
15:55
of energy and enthusiasm to continue to
15:57
do it
15:57
the responses that i got from people and
15:59
the feedback and giving me advice on how
16:01
to improve my production i was just a gm
16:03
sales guy
16:04
i still have my video up there i even
16:06
have some of them from back in the day
16:07
when i would send them to customers
16:09
and it's pretty remarkable the amount of
16:11
improvements let's call them
16:12
improvements on my channel over the
16:14
years
16:14
it's very guerilla style but it's meant
16:16
to be a fun experience
16:17
i'm very enthusiastic about trying to
16:19
show you guys
16:20
combinations and to keep you updated on
16:22
what's going on in the corvette world
16:24
i typically upload a video when a
16:26
corvette arrives that day
16:27
so that if someone in the area or maybe
16:29
they're you know outside of town they
16:30
can drive in to see that specific
16:32
combination
16:33
and then i also try to air an episode
16:35
for the weekend as well so if you're off
16:36
work or you're at home
16:37
you have something to watch and enjoy
16:39
over the weekend very nice
16:41
now you're also on facebook and
16:43
instagram tell us about those two
16:45
outlets as well for social media so i do
16:47
have both instagram and
16:48
the youtube but i also have reddit and
16:50
even tic talk and the reason why i have
16:52
these different accounts is just because
16:53
it's a lot easier for me to update
16:55
people on just little minor updates not
16:57
everything is really worthy of being on
16:59
a youtube channel and it's really fun to
17:00
be able to just put little minor updates
17:02
and i use
17:02
instagram for the most part for that and
17:04
then on reddit they even have
17:06
live sessions and i've done two sessions
17:08
so far on there
17:09
and i was blown away with how many
17:10
people were coming on and chiming in and
17:12
giving me comments so i did actually
17:14
agree to do
17:14
a reddit live session once every month
17:16
from now on wow that's really cool
17:18
i'm not familiar with reddit i've gotten
17:21
close to tick tock but that's about it
17:23
as far as i go
17:23
i've got twitter i've got facebook i've
17:26
got
17:27
instagram and then i post on the
17:29
corvette forums that are available
17:31
but i've never done reddit so i'm gonna
17:33
have to look into reddit yeah it's the
17:35
front page of the internet and the best
17:36
part about it is that you can either
17:38
upload or download something so at the
17:40
end of the day the cream rises to the
17:42
top and that's really the beauty of
17:44
reddit is that the best kind of content
17:46
is going to be brought forward to you
17:47
and that's really why i've enjoyed
17:49
lurking on it so i haven't really had a
17:50
public user name for the entire time
17:52
that i've been on it up until recently
17:54
but if i see something really cool in
17:56
the lot or maybe
17:56
i use my tiktok account to put a cool
17:59
song along with a corvette
18:00
i'll upload it on one of those just
18:02
because it's not really relevant to
18:03
notify all the people that watch me on
18:05
youtube about a 30 second clip that i
18:07
just took
18:08
gotcha now what kind of content video
18:10
wise do you put up about corvette
18:12
so like i was saying earlier this all
18:13
just kind of happened by chance and
18:15
there was an overwhelming amount of
18:16
people that
18:17
wanted to know more about it and so at
18:19
first it was really just me documenting
18:21
what i do
18:22
on a daily basis as a corvette
18:23
specialist taking it out and trying to
18:25
see how many groceries you can fit
18:27
inside of the front or
18:28
what it looks like when you're washing
18:29
your car and then it kind of evolved
18:31
into more of just documenting
18:33
everything that i do on a day-to-day
18:34
basis and educating my own clients about
18:37
how they can design their corvette and
18:38
then keeping people in the loop and the
18:40
main reason why i did that is because i
18:41
was in that kind of situation
18:43
when i ordered my corvette there was a
18:45
lot of questions that i didn't really
18:46
have the answer to and i know what that
18:48
feels like and so i always want to try
18:49
to teach people
18:51
what it is that you could do to make
18:52
sure that you have the most bang for
18:53
your buck
18:54
and also make it so that it fits the
18:56
demeanor and lifestyle of your needs
18:58
now obviously like you said before
18:59
morgan you sell more than just corvettes
19:01
there at finch chevrolet
19:03
talk about some of the other chevy
19:04
models that are really popular in canada
19:06
well the true morse is truck country so
19:08
4x4 is rule up here
19:10
sedans are not as popular as they used
19:11
to be but i can fortunately sell all
19:13
four gm brands and between them there's
19:14
a lot of really awesome products
19:16
the escalade and the tahoe and the yukon
19:18
right now are the hottest kid on the
19:20
block for full-size suvs
19:22
we've got a lot of ev vehicles that are
19:23
also going to be coming about we have a
19:25
lot of things that are going to be
19:26
changing in the near future so it's nice
19:28
to know that you have a broadband
19:29
of different vehicles to have at your
19:31
disposal and i'm very happy to be a gm
19:34
sales person for that reason
19:35
let's talk about your personal corvette
19:37
sure yeah absolutely
19:38
i started off with a 2017 z51 stingray
19:42
it was a manual
19:44
i had it built a day after my birthday
19:46
it got shipped up by freddy and it was
19:48
here right before labor day weekend and
19:50
i made my pilgrimage down to the
19:52
national corvette museum for memorial
19:53
day uh victoria day weekend up in may
19:56
i traded it in in the fall and my c8
19:59
corvette arrived in it was the number
20:00
141 so i had 141st
20:03
ca corvette off the line i have a 3lt in
20:05
ceramic matrix grey
20:07
i did a black interior because one of
20:09
the things that i do when i have a
20:10
client that's in the design session with
20:12
me is i let them drive my corvette and i
20:14
loaded it up with every single option so
20:16
if you wanted to try out the front lift
20:18
i've got it if you wanted to see
20:20
what the spoiler looks like i've got
20:21
that as well and that to me is
20:23
a rolling brochure that really helps me
20:25
out and making the corvette experience
20:26
as fun as possible
20:27
wow that's really cool letting him drive
20:29
your personal corvette that's really
20:31
something else that's
20:32
awesome it's really fun to see people's
20:34
reaction and it's about two years into
20:36
the game with this d8 and
20:38
it's still amazing to me to see how much
20:40
of an impact this c8 corvette is still
20:42
making on people that haven't seen it or
20:44
maybe have only seen it online
20:46
and when they see it in person their
20:47
eyes just widen and i get a real kick
20:49
out of that
20:49
definitely morgan if someone wants to
20:51
get in touch with you tell us how we can
20:53
get in touch with you
20:54
so i try to make sure that i can answer
20:56
everyone's question that comments on all
20:58
the social medias and it's really
20:59
helpful i
20:59
always try to post or pin the top answer
21:01
because maybe there's a lot of other
21:02
people that have the same question
21:04
my email is always in the comments
21:07
section of all my social media as well
21:08
so it's morgan.crosby and that's ie
21:11
gmail.com great and if they want to get
21:14
in touch with you there at the
21:15
dealership what's the number there at
21:16
finch chevrolet
21:17
it's 519-657-9411 and my extension is
21:22
1210.
21:23
sounds good well morgan thank you so
