3:46
right everybody welcome to our third annual talking with the Corvette team this year the Corvette team looks a
3:52
little bit different we have executive chief engineer with us Tony Roma and also the director of marketing for
4:00
General Motors Amy Mika guys welcome to Corvette today thank you hi hi thanks
4:05
for being here tony let's introduce you to the Corvette community and tell us a little bit about you and what you do for
4:11
the for the Corvette okay so yeah about uh a year ago it was announced not not
4:17
quite a year ago that I was going to replace Chad Shector who I'm sure a lot of your listeners will know he's been involved with Corvette frankly for as
4:24
long as I was at GM i met Taj in about 1993 when we were both working on the C5
4:31
um I started my career uh 31 years ago at GM um and I was a transmission
4:37
calibrator working on Corvette back then worked on Corvette for about the first 12 maybe 14 years of my career depending
4:44
on how you count i did transmission calibration engine development on the LS1 and LS6 and what became the LS7 um I
4:53
went through different roles in powertrain integration um moved over when Cadillac formed the V
4:59
series and the performance division back in the early 2000s and I've been working on competing in that market and and I
5:06
think GM's got a pretty good legacy now for the last 20 years in B series with Cadillac yes um then the last 5 years
5:12
I've been working on the Celesteic which is the Cadillac ultimate statement car that's just now hitting the market um
5:20
and uh yeah my dream came true and I get to come home and work on Corvette for
5:25
hopefully the rest of my career and um yeah it's awesome time to be involved with the product and it's great it's
5:30
great it's great to have you back thanks Amy Msika the director of marketing for General Motors not just Chevrolet but
5:37
General Motors tell us a little about tell us a little bit about you Amy and what you're doing with Corvette and
5:42
actually just one thing it's um Chevrolet marketing director chevrolet marketing director well just to make
5:48
sure that still it's a huge opportunity huge job so I've been at General Motors for about uh almost 12 years now i've
5:55
worked on a few different brands from um across different segments different vehicle lines and different platforms
6:01
and I've been on Chevy specifically for about three years and similar timing to
6:06
Tony about a year ago I have the lucky opportunity to take over the whole Chevrolet lineup so from um the small
6:13
SUVs to the midsize SUVs to fullsize pickup and of course why we're here today because of Corvette the I am
6:19
unbelievably honored to take you know the lead responsibility of marketing for Corvette and you know just a little bit
6:26
um more about my background is I have an expertise in launching vehicles and
6:31
knowing the customer and really understanding what the customer wants and we develop packaging and pricing and
6:37
go to market and dealer material so it's really important for me to be an event like the national um with the Corvette
6:43
Bash and be a part of the museum uh board as well because I need to make sure that I'm working very closely with
6:49
the customers so I can be the voice of them as we work closely with engineering as we work closely with design absolutely welcome to the team it's
6:55
great to have you here we're going to go through these questions you two we we always solicit every year questions from
7:01
mid-engine Corvette forum and corvette forum.com and they ask us these questions so you can answer them because
7:08
they don't get a chance to talk to you like we do amy first off marketing is very broad talk a little bit more about
7:14
your role and what more specifics you have in mind for Corvette yeah absolutely so the big thing is we are my
7:21
team and we have um a really strong marketing team but we're the voice of the customer so what we really focus in
7:27
on is I'm just going to go back to the basics of four piece of marketing right so product so we work very closely at what the right packages should be what
7:33
the right pricing should be how we're going to be competitive in the marketplace right so then from product
7:38
to price to place um to promotion as well so we're putting together all the
7:44
strategy of messaging and positioning and how we want to show up to consumers
7:49
right so from working with different influencers working with different um you know potentially TV spots we put
7:55
Corvette on a TV spot for the first time in a really long time last year right really celebrating the car and driver
8:00
10fest it was a really huge opportunity for us corvette acts as a halo so we need to make sure that we position
8:05
Corvette a specific way in the marketplace not only to make our customers proud of driving the Corvette
8:11
but also to elevate the Chevrolet brand yes because it's important of the testament of what the engineering does
8:17
on on Corvette specifically it allows us to use those equities um to really drive
8:22
home uh what it you know what it can transfer to the other vehicles and you know big reasons for purchase so we we
8:28
dig into why people buy the vehicles and you know it's great with um you know steer styling fun to drive obviously the
8:34
performance but vehicle reputation is also huge for Corvette yes so with that
8:39
in mind it's making sure that we can live up to that reputation on how we show up in the marketplace yeah so again
8:45
going back to who the customer is understanding what the customer wants needs desires technical functions emotional functions etc and then putting
8:52
that into all of our goss that's awesome your knowledge and experience will vote well for Corbett we're excited about
8:58
that well thank you very excited to be here as well it's a dream opportunity to to work on such a unique special product
9:07
that no one else has anything like absolutely and with the ZR1 I mean you can't beat this for a million dollars
9:14
literally figuratively and literally a lot of these questions are kind of technical but I want to work you into
9:20
everything as well okay our first question comes believe it or not from Scott Hul scott Hul is the TV host of
9:27
Mikum Auctions and he asks "Can the software be updated for the blind zone alerts the blind side doesn't activate
9:34
until the car is equal or or coming up to the rear bumper which is kind of dangerous." What do you think Tony you
9:40
know this is great and you know all these questions are super technical and you can tell your viewers are definitely
9:46
into this product which is awesome as an engineer you want to work on something people appreciate and it's clear people
9:52
appreciate this the short answer is um we understand the the cal may not be exactly what this person expected for
9:58
the sidelines but there really isn't way software to update it okay there's limitations on what the radar can see
10:04
and when it can see it and we did the best we could with that generation of car to calibrate it to work as intended
10:11
you've got the uh full display mirror that you can use to help with vision um and I would say there's there's you know
10:18
no plans to update the calibration in any existing car but we we understand and we're constantly trying to make the
10:23
systems better in the future gotcha that sounds good our next question comes from Midenine Corvette forum a person named
10:29
2026 ZR1 and his question is Amy you could answer this for us will GM make
10:36
-ray wheels and rear wings available for all widebody Corvettes i love the Highwing my car has I got a Stingray
10:43
with a Z07 highwing so this is a question close to my heart yeah so I'm going to answer the wheel the wheel part
10:48
of it first so we work really closely with design to make sure that we give each of our trims or each of our models
10:54
unique personas so right now the Ewell Eray wheels are specific to the -ay okay
11:00
yes can they be used on another widebody of course cr1 separate aside but yes for Z06 so we
11:07
can however right now we're keeping it true to um you can order a bunch of different accessory options you could
11:13
potentially buy the -ay wheels and put it on but as a factory option we are not
11:18
allowing that right now because we want to keep it truly truly we want to keep them truly give that distinct
11:24
personality that distinct persona okay so we're so we got some options but um
11:30
to directly answer your questions yes it works but at the same time we're keeping it true and then from the wing perspective is we do have accessory
11:37
options that can work across each of the wide bottle wide um bodies okay that
11:42
sounds good yeah I if I had an array I would want a big wing y that's just me i'm the big wing guy like I said we work
11:47
closely with our accessory team to make sure that we're giving the customer choice and options and depending on what they want fantastic that's good to hear
11:53
our next question comes from Corvette Form2 it's from a person named factoid and they say please address what GM is
11:59
doing to re reduce constraints and delivery delays so I think we can tag team a little bit on this i'll talk
12:05
about what we're doing from the maker side of the business excuse me um we're
12:11
working to expand our supply base when and we just answered this question in the forum here um um we are working to
12:18
expand our supply base carbon fiber is very labor intensive to make it's it's basically handlaid into the mold and you
12:24
run the part through the autoclave and it comes out and so finding um enough skilled people is what our suppliers
12:30
have been struggling with in the carbon fiber space for quite a long time so we are having to go out and find other
12:36
people and in some cases we're spending money to redevelop the exact same part with a different supplier to get more
12:42
capacity so I can tell you from from my side we work super hard to get as much carbon as possible i know I hear about
12:48
this a lot joke with my team that uh I hope one day we can have an entire meeting where we don't have to mention
12:54
getting more carbon fiber and we talk about it in fact I was on the phone this morning at 6:00 a.m with some folks from
13:00
around the world wow talking about this i I literally talk about it every single day how do we get more i'm not
13:05
exaggerating sorry about that and I know there's also that this is also confounded a little bit with the allocation system so if you want to talk
13:12
about how from the settling side the constraints that come up yeah so of course our number one goal is to not
13:18
have any constraints um stuff comes up certain situations come up where we cannot avoid um however that we're
13:25
putting the customer first giving them choice and options and we'll just you know just a quick example when we the first uh dealer allocation cycle came
13:31
out for the ZR1 wing wing um with a 0% constraint on it well we got great customer feedback great dealer feedback
13:38
um frankly our phones were you know constantly ringing off the hook and we put it on pause right so we said "Okay
13:43
guys give us a little bit of time let us work through it." We worked closely with supply chain we worked closely with Tony's team and engineering to put the
13:50
customer first and that's what's really important so we actually we stopped and held it for a couple weeks we came up
13:55
with a great solution we went back out to all the dealers and said "Let's talk to our customers do they want to wing or not?" We had free flow and now we're
14:02
doing you know so sometimes stuff happens that we have to be agile and flexible and work through it but our goal is always to have no constraints
14:08
out there um and of course as we deal you know work with dealers on allocation we have a very complicated system that
14:14
uh you know puts together how dealers get their earn and allocation um but you know you have to be a Corvette certified
14:20
dealer uh to to really sell right and that's perfect because Corvette Ed from Miden Engine Corvette Forum asked that
14:26
exact question you read my mind that's fantastic thank you very much our next question comes from Corvette forum it's
14:31
a person named Ruy 271 and I think both of you might be able to answer this is
14:37
there any plans to implement an individual paint program for Corvettes similar to like Porsche or the German
14:43
automakers or even the Italian automakers yeah this is something that that we've talked about a lot and um on Celesteic
14:51
which is a project I mentioned that I've been working on for the last number of years we do something we've got like 98
14:56
standard colors on a Celestic and then we'll do whatever you want essentially wow and we've already got people that are developing their own colors in that
15:03
regard so we've learned a lot about what it takes to do that we've also done a program with the CT5 Black Wings we did
15:09
a special run of 20 last year where we um had them special commission built and
15:14
painted um not any color you wanted but an much expanded palette good um and
15:20
just just to kind of maybe go back and things that may not be obvious to everybody um I we got the question earlier today when we introduced the two
15:26
new colors for 26 why do we have to remove colors when we bring new colors in and right you know I think it's a
15:31
good question um if you think about a paint shop like we have at Bowling Green we can paint 10 different colors at a
15:38
time which is a lot yes but we paint in batches and we try and minimize the amount of waste that we have and
15:44
clearing out lines and it's a big industrial process um so there's a reason why we we have the flexibility to
15:50
paint 10 10 is more colors than most other products uh that major manufacturers make but but like this
15:56
person references our competitors for the last couple years have been offering this and it's something we're interested in and so I'd be curious like in the
16:03
comment section maybe you know to talk about how much interest would there be and how much would people pay if we were to make this available because um if
16:10
this is what our customers really think we should be working on we're we're willing to listen yeah from exclusive paint colors to you know unique trim and
16:17
deco inside what what does this what does your audience what does our customers want right do they want one of
16:23
one exclusive do they want one of 200 what what different types of I would say
16:29
programs or flexibility customization personalization um do you know we we
16:36
might keep Chuck Valentini up late at night on this but you never know bring
16:41
it on let us let us hear because that's how it makes us better at our jobs to Exactly exactly our other question comes
16:48
from Andy Bump in Corvette Forum and he asked "What does the hydraulic system flush do and and what about the
16:54
hydraulic system leak test what happens if the leak is detected that's a great
16:59
technical question Tony yeah I was gonna say I'm gonna let Amy answer that just kidding um so really it's an interesting
17:06
question when when you sent it over to us and we we all tal huddled and talked amongst ourselves there there i think
17:12
there was a quality spill years ago on some of the cars that had to be had to
17:17
have system components replaced and then you'd need to flush the system out and I don't want to get into the details of
17:22
that but if your car was affected by that there was a bullet right that would address that right in general you never
17:28
need to service or flush the hydraulic fluid in your front lift system okay it's not like brake fluid brake fluid is
17:34
hyroscopic it absorbs water it's open to the atmosphere over time it absorbs too much water doesn't become effective as
17:40
brake fluid anymore this fluid is not like that it's hydraulic oil that that'll last essentially forever it
17:46
doesn't have any preventative maintenance schedule so you shouldn't have to do anything is the short answer if your car wasn't affected by this
17:53
bulletin you're good that's awesome wow i wish we could get oil to do that yeah
17:58
I wish so too yeah guys let's take our first break when we come back we'll answer more questions from Corvette
18:03
Forum and mid-enine Corvette Forum with the Corvette team Tony Roma and Amy Msika here on Corvette today
18:11

22:24
call 833-639-4231 i'm your host Steve Garrett
22:29
with me is the Corvette team we have Tony Roma here the executive chief dineer of Corvette and Amy Msika the
22:35
director of Chevrolet marketing in the second segment we have more questions from the audience of Corvette forum and
22:42
mid-enine Corvette Forum this question comes from mid-engine Corvette forum a guy named Rhino how about that Amy he
22:50
wants to know "I just purchased a Z-51 Stingray and the first week it displayed and posted speed limits how does
22:57
that doesn't Now it doesn't What oh okay i
23:03
got it now it doesn't Now it doesn't display that and no one knows how to get it back how do you get that back?" So
23:09
first you should check to make sure it's turned on because you can turn it on and off so it's in the yes the DIC the
23:16
driver information so make sure So just confirm it's on first and foremost um and then the other other nuance here is
23:22
sometimes when you're driving and there is no uh speed limit on a road it obviously doesn't show right it will
23:28
show the dashes or it will it will disappear but if you don't have that I would recommend going to the dealer and
23:34
checking to make sure that there's no other issues and concerns no salt but first check if it's on or off yeah and
23:40
everybody you've got to drive by a a speed limit sign for the radar or the
23:45
car to detect the actual speed so if there's no sign there you're not going to get anything so that's perfect thank
23:51
you our second question is from Corvette forum a person named Bald Guy and I promise you too this is not me
23:58
okay he asked "Is the Corvette team still considering manual transmission for the C8 Corvette and beyond?"
24:05
There's there's a number of questions that you uh you just predict after a while you're going to get and this is
24:10
definitely high on the list for a C8 and I I own a number of manual transmission cars a couple manual transmission
24:17
Corvettes myself so this question is near and dear to my heart but the the short answer is unfortunately no not
24:22
right now um I would stress the the car the C8 architecture is really built
24:27
around this fantastic dual clutch transmission that we have it's super fast shifting it's it's just fantastic
24:33
contains you know the 164 horsepower of the ZR1 it makes for a great experience you can put it in manual mode and and
24:40
choose what gear you want to be in um while you're driving on the track or on the street so I'd say right now I'm really proud of the experience the team
24:46
offers to our customers right but uh right now there's no plans to do a manual transmission as a matter of fact
24:52
I think on the first show that we did Taj said that they sent this out for bid for seven eight nine different companies
24:59
and they couldn't meet the parameters that Corvette needed to have a manual transmission in the C8 yeah it's the car
25:06
like I said it's really architected around the transmission it's really a little bit difficult to describe but if you think about where the engine is in
25:13
the back right behind the driver and where the differential is which dictates the position of the rear wheels and then
25:18
where the gearbox is if we were going to do a manual transmission it would have to be a bespoke unit just for Corvette
25:26
we couldn't use the same unit as any of our competitors and obviously the same unit that worked in our rear
25:31
transmission you know C567 architecture would not work at all so um you know it
25:37
would be literally hundreds of millions of dollars to develop a bespoke manual
25:43
transmission and that's even if we could find someone to do it and then you'd have to package the third pedal and and the center console you know it would be
25:49
an extremely expensive venture from our side so I think the team did the right thing and focused on just making a truly
25:55
great worldbeating DCT which is what we have so uh although as a as a fan and
26:01
enthusiast I understand the question it's not a crazy question um I wish there was a different answer but right
26:06
now um here we are yeah I agree and you know what my C7 was a manual transmission too i miss it everybody
26:12
says "Well you probably don't even miss your C8 now that you got you or your C7 now that you got a C8." I say I miss
26:18
that car every single day you know anyway all right our next question comes
26:24
from Midenine Corvette forum it's a person named HD Rider 1 amy this is a
26:29
good question for you will adaptive cruise control be offered and can it be retrofitted to current C8 with software
26:35
updates okay so right now it is not offered but we will let you guys be the
26:40
first to know if we do offer it um so we go back and forth i don't know from a
26:45
technical reason Tony if you have any additional things to add on it but you know the customer loves to have control
26:51
of their vehicle Corvette specifically right and allowing them to control the speed and you know navigating fun to
26:58
drive and etc for this is you know this is not prohibiting them for me per se so
27:04
it's not the probably the best answer ever but right now is no and maybe in the future there might be something the
27:09
quick version from a technical side is you know the radar base you need the longrange radar as the foundation of
27:15
like an adaptive crew system like that and we don't have that there would be no other reason there is no other reason to have one of those if you don't have
27:20
adaptive cruise and on a low vehicle like a Corvette it's difficult because you get a lot of reflection back from
27:26
the road right so um I know some of our competitors have started to offer this but right now like Amy said we've really
27:33
focused the Corvette around a driving experience and driver in control of the car and again I'd say this is one of
27:38
those things like if we if there was overwhelming demand from our customers we we potentially listen but right now
27:44
we've chosen to make that technical decision to focus the car on the truck we don't want no nannies
27:52
right you said it much better than I did thank you you got it you got it all right our next question is from Corvette
27:57
Forum a person named JMBB he wants to know Tony this might be your question knowing the exhaust engineers what they
28:03
went through to get the exhaust note to sound so good what challenges did the LT7 or the ZR1 have uh with the with the
28:11
car basically now just coming out yeah the LT7 poses a lot of uh interesting
28:17
challenges if you think about the throughput on half of the engine is more than an entire LS7 um you know more than
28:24
500 horsepower out of each side um it it's also interesting the way we package
28:29
the entire exhaust system in the back of of a C8 um it's the exhaust systems are
28:34
very similar to the LT6 and the way the valves work and the way we make it work for for the different modes um there's a
28:41
lot more high frequency content that comes from the turbos you don't get those really distinct pulses from the
28:46
engine because the turbos are between the engine and the exhaust system you know the analogy is it's like having a
28:51
blender between you know the engine and the exhaust it sort of chops up a lot of that you know that's why the car sounds
28:58
so different so um I think our our NV team or noise and vibration team did a fantastic job to make the car sound
29:04
really really good um it is actually louder than the LT62 microphones like
29:09
when we go to the Nurburgring if you notice any of the spy shots from last year we had to put these extra little
29:15
mufflers and turn down pipes on the car because right it blows sound at the Nurburgring it's a public road and so
29:20
you can't exceed a certain noise limit and um it's funny because to your ear an
29:26
LT6 sounds louder but to the microphone that that high frequency air rush noise from that just so much more throughput
29:33
um makes more noise so uh anyways I think when you hear the car you won't be disappointed it's got a very distinctive
29:38
sound and sounds really cool can't wait to hear it can't wait to hear it amy we've got a question for you clearly
29:44
Corvette is the halo car for Chevrolet does the influence does it influence other products in the Chevrolet lineup
29:51
oh absolutely so if you start with you know okay you got the street performance right we just talked about the top speed
29:58
we just talked about the you know all the records that Yes um the ZR11 but we influence a lot of that into our history
30:05
with racing as well as or you know it's all defined by the hairs but the Blazer
30:10
EVSS is a great example right so we've leveraged a lot of the inspiration from the Corvette as well as the the past
30:17
Camaro into the Blazer into the Blazer EVSS and it's our quickest SS ever at 3.4 seconds so again using the
30:23
technology from Tony's team and from the other engineering teams to make sure that we're using all those learnings and
30:28
putting it into vehicles like the Blazer EVs yes it's a full EV but there's still a lot of uh you know transferable
30:34
knowledge and information and we do this from you know racing and performance and heritage and what you know our Todd
30:40
Christensen and the motorsports team does you know and the day-to-day with our racing counterparts and you know we
30:45
see our two truck family the Chad Hall relationship so performance racing is true to Chevy is it's haloed by the
30:53
Corvette which is absolutely important and you know the ZR1 is going to be the pace car and Indie uh in a short time
31:01
too which will be absolutely amazing so it's just it's continuing to show the power of what Corvette can do to the
31:07
rest of the lineup and it's just it's really important to us it's nice that you guys share the technology you know tech transfer is important
31:13
absolutely leveraging our motorsports brands to continue to push forward very cool all right our next question comes
31:19
from mid-enine Corvette form it's a person named Lost Soul and they ask on the -ay tony this might be you on the
31:26
-ay why does the ice engine the internal combustion engine start after I step on
31:32
the brake why does it while it's in stealth mode yeah it's an interesting question when I looked at this it's not
31:37
supposed to start when you step on the brakes however there are a couple of reasons why the engine would start one
31:43
is if the rez gets the battery gets too low it's going to charge it has to start up the engine sure um if you try and go
31:49
too fast I think it's above 45 milesPH it'll start and if you dip too too deep into the throttle because that sends the
31:55
command of the car that you're intending to accelerate faster than the front drive unit can do and so it would fire
32:01
up the engine help you accelerate um those are really just limitations of the the E-Ray and stealth mode was really
32:07
not intended to have a significant amount of EV only range it was really intended to be just a technology
32:13
demonstrator of this is what's possible it's it's to enhance the performance of the car yeah that's right it really is i
32:18
remember that from previous that's pretty cool tony also here's a question from Corvette for a guy named Jerry U he
32:25
wants to know is the E-Ray 0 to 60 timer on the dash consistent or better with
32:30
the one that's on the PDR because it uses magnetic ride control precision array of accelerators and is it the same
32:39
it's not the same i'd say the PDR is probably more true it's GPS when you're
32:44
doing the 0 to 60 um timer that's on the dash it's using the wheels predom predominantly and on the rear wheel
32:51
drive cars it can use the front wheels as a reference because they're not being driven and they're just rolling along right on an E-Ray all four wheels are
32:57
being driven so there's a certain amount of slip on the on the tires between the actual road speed and wheel speed so um
33:04
I would expect that you'd probably get a little more optimism out of the cluster than you would out of the PDR gotcha
33:10
gotcha great great answer that's a good question it really was guys let's take our final break when we come back we'll
33:16
answer our final segment of questions from Corvette Forum and Midgine Corvette Forum that's coming up next here on

37:12
8336394231 i'm your host Steve Garrett we have the Corvette team answering your questions tony Roman here the executive
37:18
chief engineer for Corvette and Amy Msika the the director of marketing for
37:24
Chevrolet is answering your questions this is our third and final segment all right guys this first question comes
37:30
from Corvette forum and a person named OnPoint tony this probably will be your question how long do you expect the
37:36
catalytic converters to last on a ZR1 when the car is being tracked regular regularly at 1,64 horsepower first of
37:45
all I love this question like it's just so awesome that someone intention is
37:50
intending to go use their car like that and I love it um and I can tell you we've thought about it um the quick answer is so the car is
37:58
constantly monitoring the catalysts um we have a temperature model um so we
38:04
know it's just like the turos think of the catalyst just like the turos right to to have them stay happy you know they
38:10
can't get too hot they need to run at a certain temperature catalysts are the same way they they live in a very hot
38:15
temperature to do their job and and and convert the constituents to the friendly things that come out the exhaust pipe or
38:21
more friendly things um so the short answer is they'll last a long time um and so the cars come with an eight-year
38:28
or 80,000 mile um emissions warranty okay and so we've engineered them expecting that they would last through
38:34
that emissions warranty at least um to do what we intend the car to do so uh go out and track with impunity and and
38:42
kudos to OnPoint from Corvette for that's the question of the day I guess isn't it next question amy I think you
38:48
can answer this one can GM offer optional sound and heat insulation packages especially for the interior in
38:55
the trunk that's a big question I guess isn't it yes so I'm going to answer then I'm going to ask the question back to
39:00
the audience as well so we don't offer it today however if we are to offer more
39:06
sound enhancements or more insulation per se it's going to come at trade-off are you willing to give storage
39:12
trade-off are you willing to give up some of the the trunk space or the front space right is what does what do you
39:19
guys want what are your what are you willing to trade off storage for this any other potential opportunities or
39:26
trade-offs because it's a big question as we continue to progress the product as we continue to move things forward into the future as you know we joked
39:32
about it today where Holder is not here he's on some secret location back in you know in in some place right continually
39:40
working on the product so this is questions that we'd like to hear from you answers we'd like to hear from you
39:46
because that's how I do my job tony does a job on this y and then we're talking about Josh Holder josh we miss you we'll
39:52
have you next year on the panel with everybody else yeah that's a great question there's a trade-off if you want
39:57
more insulation you're giving up a little bit of trunk space so what do you want what's more important we'll try and
40:03
get some answers that'll be interesting our next question is from Corvette forum a person named Ron Adelboroough ron
40:09
wants to know "Some seat experiences a wine coming from the dual clutch transmission and or the rear
40:15
differential what is what is it and what do we need to do to fix that Johnny um so we've already talked about
40:23
this transmission it's fantastic the car is architected around it um really this is not new to our DCT um it's been you
40:31
know the bane of every every car engineer's existence forever differentials will make noise what I can
40:37
say is the things you do to mitigate that well first of all we test every single transmission we run them through
40:43
a hot test and we characterize a bunch of accelerometers all over this test fixture and we we we have very tight
40:49
parameters that that say okay this is a good transmission the break-in procedure for the transmission and the
40:55
differential that's inside of it is super important so really honestly keep
41:00
the load down on the transmission when it's new those those gears need to gently mate it with each other over the
41:07
first you know maybe 1500 miles so that's no joke um and so if your car is
41:14
uh you think too loud I'd say bring it to your Chevy dealer and and let them listen to it a little bit of noise is an
41:19
unfortunate uh side effect of of making a transmission handle 64 horsepower and
41:25
we we think we found the right limit of what we call our specs but uh if somebody thinks they've got an outlier
41:31
bring it in let somebody take a look at Let's get it fixed right amy here's a good question for you how do you get
41:37
dealers ready for Corvette launches and also the demands of customers yeah so first of all it's a it's a really good
41:43
question because our dealers take a lot of pride um selling Corvettes right they have to be Corvette certifiers first and
41:48
foremost they also have to go through uh Corvette Academy and they send people to
41:53
the museum track to get you know to do classes and education and meet with the
41:59
experts because we need to make sure that they can also talk it up with the customers and give the customers exactly
42:05
what they need and then of course we have ongoing training right we do um tours throughout the whole year um with
42:12
product experts we also have virtual classes we have real-time conversations with them we give them materials and
42:17
references and every time something new comes out you make sure they have access to the right people to right talk to and it you know it's actually really special
42:23
here at the Bash there were a few dealers here too some of our largest dealers came to the Bash and you know
42:29
they're talking to customers they're doing deliveries here at the museum um so it's really important that they are
42:35
also engaged so it's you know they're one of our most powerful partners that we have and making sure that they're in
42:40
lock step with us along the way is really important that's great yeah mike Ferman was here Corvette Ed Mark Thomas
42:45
was here those are the ones that I saw there's probably a lot more that's that's fantastic our next question comes
42:51
back from Mid Midenine Corvette Forum it's Lost Soul once again he wants to know Tony can we revisit the limits on
42:57
stealth mode on the -ay and allowing lower temperatures you know like 40° or instead of 50° and would this allow us
43:04
to use stealth mode instead of running out of gas that's another one of those questions I love it just shows somebody
43:10
really really pushing the boundaries on exactly what we intended the car to do unfortunately the short answer is no um
43:17
there are all these pesky regulations and laws that we have to meet with these cars and one of them is the ability to
43:24
clear your windshield with the HVAC system at certain temperatures so the stealth mode really wasn't intended to
43:30
be the primary mode that you drive your car which is why we talked earlier about those exit criterias so really yeah the
43:36
short short answer is no there's no way to lower the temperatures and I guess my message would just be that that wasn't
43:42
picked by accident or or happen stance it really was intentional okay uh to make the car balanced and integrated the
43:48
way it needed to be that sounds good that makes sense too amy another question for you how do you orchestrate
43:54
the customer plus ups plusups mean like the the speed forms that they get as a
43:59
thank you gift from Chevrolet Spring Mountain things like that yeah so we talked it was great we talked about this
44:05
a little bit earlier as well but you know every new customer gets a welcome kit and in the welcome kit they get their speed forms right right and it's
44:11
tailored to the model of their vin which is really nice because people can display it and you know it it shows the pride right um but then also right you
44:18
can imagine the museum delivery which you got to reenact today which was also um a really great you know museum has a
44:24
great partnership with us but then also the spring mountain driving tool is something unique that we are able to offer uh to customers at a discounted
44:30
rate um but even you know as we continue to roll out remodels the CR1 you get it for free so it's part of the it's part
44:37
of the program right and especially with you see how fast the the ZR1 can go so it is really also important safety first
44:44
so making sure that customers are getting the right experience understanding their limits because this vehicle that Tony and the team has
44:50
engineered is unlike anything out there right now and and making sure that we're giving the customers all the tools and
44:55
resources at the um at the tip of their hand so it's it's an opportunity for us just to make sure that we're you know
45:01
doing stuff that others can't do or don't do so it's really this community is so important to us and we want to
45:07
just keep giving them new exclusive experiences so who knows what's coming up next that's awesome and did you hear
45:12
that if you buy a ZR1 you get your Spring Mountain experience free of
45:17
charge it's on Chevrolet that's fantastic all right our next question comes from Andy Bump in the Corvette
45:24
forum andy wants to know Tony the first DCT filter change is at 7,500 miles and
45:30
this is a big conversation we almost have this every single year the second change is at 15,000 miles and then at
45:38
22,500 miles all the resets are at 22,500 mile intervals or all the ones
45:45
after that if the second one because the transmission is shedding or breaking debris what is GM's updated policy on
45:52
the DCT transmission changes right now yeah this one was interesting to me i
45:58
didn't think we had a required update at 15,000 miles i thought that was 7500 is really the breakin right um that's the
46:06
one that's really really important to make sure you get a fresh filter in there after the the breaking is
46:11
basically complete on the transmission and I know we've gotten some questions from folks that don't drive their cars
46:16
very often 7,500 miles to a lot of people is is more than a year right so I know we've extended that window where
46:22
you can get that done and it's really intended to be 22,000 miles after that got it so um I don't I guess guess I
46:30
don't know if somebody can we can get a link to what our current uh bullet is for the transmission when the C8 came
46:36
out when the meta engine came out there's a lot of questions about when do you change the transmission filter and
46:42
the fluid so it's it's a constant thing and I think it's just something we need to do as much education on as possible
46:48
basically yeah I I agree and I know we've just updated the verbiage in that so we can we can get you the right link
46:53
for whatever awesome that's fantastic all right our final question is from Corvette forum it's from a person named
46:59
C8 Nuke Z-51 wow some of these names I just use Steve Garrett on the forums
47:04
it's simple it's easy i don't know where they come up with these but it's pretty creative amy will GM add automatic high
47:11
beams and adaptive headlights that move with the steering i know that I think Porsche does that
47:18
can't remember so safety is our top priority right at GM at Chevy on
47:24
Corvette um so we're going to continue to innovate and we're going to continue to push to where we can give the customer what they want without uh as
47:30
I'd say disrupting the rest of their driving experience so it's something that um we don't have currently but it's
47:35
going to something that we're going to continue to look at in the future to see right to just we answer the questions earlier right with um we'll see with
47:42
competitors whatever so we do have automatic uh high beams right right um
47:47
and so I don't know if this is what your uh your listener intended but the adaptive headlights there's something
47:53
called adaptive driving beam ADB technology okay it just recently became legal here in the US oh um it's
48:00
something that's been in Europe for quite a while it's where you use like a matrix between the lamp and and what you're projecting onto use the camera to
48:07
so that you can like blot out the oncoming traffic and still have the high beams for the rest of your vision right
48:12
that's recently become available in the US i can say the Corvette is not architected for that right now it's a
48:19
technology I think we would look at in the future that when the Corvette was architected like I said wasn't legal to
48:24
be in the US okay the lamps that steer were really for older technology lamps i
48:30
don't know of very many people that still do that it it was for when when if you wanted a highintensity light it was
48:37
more focused and needed to move with you yes so um we don't tend to do that anymore these these LEDs we have right
48:43
now cast a super wide beam and um usually we're we're pretty much covering
48:48
as much legal lighting coverage as we can so there's really not much you could do to turn um so yeah we'll adapt
48:56
technology as we can to make the driving experience better and more driver focused in the future perfect perfect
49:01
much better answer thanks thank you on that one that's why he's the executive
49:06
chief engineer right exactly guys this is that's all of our questions thank you so much for being here we appreciate it
