3:15
world all right my friends it's time once again for the latest Corvette news and headlines with my pal Keith cornette
3:21
from Corvette blogger.com Keith is here every other week and we keep you current and up toate on what's happening with
3:27
America Sports Car Keith welcome back to the show I'm so excited because Springtime starts this week and nothing
3:32
else better than to start it with the news and headlines show yeah we love Springtime it's a great time of year and
3:37
the AL we also had the time change so we got more Daylight during the day which I guess is good my sleeping patterns have
3:43
been a little freaked out the last couple weeks but yeah glad that Spring's here we're getting Corvette season we' got races happening all kinds of shows
3:50
coming up making plans for the bash so yeah this is exciting time of year absolutely right buddy well let's start
3:56
off as we always do with an update on production at the bowling GRE assembly plan yeah well Steve as we've been
4:01
talking the last few months apparently there's nothing holding back the Stingrays they've been building like 150 of these per day on average and we just
4:08
look at the VIN counts daily and we're always surprised just to see 145 150 160 150 I mean it's just like clockwork
4:14
they're banging out the sting race we're looking at the VIN counts we're already at 16,41 19 cars produced for the 2024
4:22
model year great news on sting right the Z06 production actually appears back on track as well we had that February
4:27
hiccup where we went a few days without any being produced now suddenly we're back again the plant's been building an
4:32
average about 45 a day or so good you know it seems like we were just talking about Z6 production reaching that 4,000
4:39
unit Milestone and we've already added another 500 cars so we're at 4500 z06's
4:44
built so far for the year I know many of you are interested in eay production we really took a hard look at this to see
4:49
where we're going you know they've had a handful of units going down the line almost every day now and March and in fact there was just two production days
4:55
in March where those counts have been zero so they're building like 20 or so per week and we are currently sitting at
5:01
174 through last week you know when you add up all three of these models together we're at 21,000 Corvettes
5:07
produced for the 2024 model year that's great I also want to add this about the eay because a lot of people are saying wow this really feels slow feels slower
5:14
than ZO6 I went back and actually took a look at that the assembly plant actually started building the z6s the month of
5:20
October and it took them all the way to March 16th to build like 150 customer cars and for the eay we're doing it much
5:28
faster production really started in Earnest on January 8th we had the three cars built in December but really things
5:33
kicked off on January 8th and we're already at 174 cars completed through basically the same time period March
5:39
16th so they are moving them there is some sort of cadence you see a pattern developing and they just need to be
5:45
building the car every day and then just get those counts upward but it's still a ramp up we've got some ordering we're
5:51
going to talk about we haven't had any allocations recently for the eray but we think that might change later this month
5:56
that sounds good speaking of allocations we did get allocations for March for the dealers exactly we believe there's going
6:02
to be another two order Cycles again this month they referring to the first one as order cycle one so that leads us
6:07
to believe there will be a second one but the very first one came out those allocations were just for stingrays and
6:13
z6s okay no e-rays allocated during that round and then the cycle 2 allocations
6:18
we think will start again this Thursday and that's where we're hoping to see the e- picked up I don't think we've had
6:23
eray fully allocated in mass since like last September when they opened up the very first order cycle so they did those
6:29
initial orders they've been holding them back I've had people saying I've been at 3,000 status since September and some
6:35
point you're going to get there but we haven't had any other allocation rounds so we're hoping that if we do see
6:40
something in March that'll give us greater understanding yeah they're starting to ramp up again they've handle some of those cars from that first
6:46
allocation cycle so now that we've got the numbers for sting rain Z06 last week we got the constraints for that and we
6:52
can tell you that once again the q9i gloss black wheels they're on a control release they had just come off
6:58
constraint the last order cycle and everybody was like really excited like hey maybe they've gotten to the point where these can just be ordered but now
7:04
they're back on a controlled release again and for those that wanted the painted High wi that's still not available dealers still have to do a
7:10
split between z51 and non z51 the Chevy dealer will be told you can order this many of this and this many of that it's
7:17
just what that is and it's always changing so there's no real way to determine what a dealer is going to have finally for ZO6 constraints we have the
7:24
toog visible carbon fiber arrow that is not available you can get the painted carbon Flash Shero so people could still
7:30
order their z7s and the other things with the car no constraints on eras because there was no allocation so
7:37
that's where we are for the Marshal or cycle that sounds good but you know speaking of e-rays I know MC Mulin got an eay I know that our buddy Mike Ferman
7:44
from Chiswell got an r-ray as a matter of fact my Hendrick Chevrolet dealership here in Kansas City got their very first
7:50
r-ray I went and saw that last Thursday they look great yeah you know it's always an exciting time too when a new
7:56
Corvette model start showing up at the dealers it's like finally it's real you know it's real it's here you can put your hands on it the new owners are
8:03
obviously excited with the world's largest Corvette dealer MC mul and getting their first car in they pulled out the cameras did a little film threw
8:09
it up on YouTube they had a really nice car they had a rip tide blue with a natural interior I believe and then the
8:15
Pearl nickel Wheels which I think are really pretty on the car yeah so after they took off the transport covers they moved the car around the parking lot in
8:22
stealth mode and then they did a little flying start so you could hear the V8 Ro to life and then there was another dealer actually Tim La Chevrolet out of
8:28
Cleveland they did a video of their first eay they had arctic white with a new electric blue stripe on it and then
8:34
they demoed the shuttle mode which allows you to move a car around the shop under electric power only we're going to see dealers get the new Ray in we're
8:40
going to see them showing it off everybody wants to play with stealth mode and the shuttle mode because that's the real trick with the E exactly
8:46
that'll be fun I'm looking forward to seeing more videos and getting more information about dealerships getting these cars also Keith what is going on
8:53
with this GM is raising the price of their extended warranties by 30% and that starts next month yeah no Steve let
9:00
me ask you do you have an extended warranty on your 70th Anniversary sting right I do okay yeah that's good you know a lot of people know right away I'm
9:06
gonna hide this car for a while yes that's the great thing about Corvettes and Corvette owners they're going to take really good care of it the factory
9:11
warranty is only three years or 36,000 miles I believe so if you are going to hold your car longer than that obviously
9:17
you want to be protected we learned through our friends over at M and Corvette forum that GM is going to be raising the prices of all their extended
9:23
warranties this is across all four Brands we're hearing that the Chevrolet plans are expected to go up roughly around 30% I was told 28% by another
9:30
person it's funny you know dealers charge different prices for these plans so you want to shop around get a quote
9:36
from your local dealer over the last few years one of the places to go to for an extended warranty is mcmulkin they have
9:41
very aggressive pricing on their plans you want to talk to Todd Southerland and their finance department and then for
9:47
people that have been on Corvette forum for a long time we know that Dennis fitchner was always one of the go-to guys for extended warranties fitchner is
9:54
now with Laurel chevy.com you can reach him at Laurel chevy.com and get a quote there these prices are different from
10:01
the different dealers so definitely shop around if you're going to get them but that's a big nut 30% is a big increase
10:06
yeah some people would buy their Corvette and then add the extended warranty in like year two or year three of their ownership right so it might
10:12
just be something that you want to get a quote right now because you could actually save several hundred dollars or more depending on who you go with
10:17
realize that these things are pure profit for the dealership so they are willing to negotiate with you remember
10:23
that as you go in and get these extended warranties before April 7th yeah that's a good point also Keith this is really
10:29
cool cool Japan is getting two limited edition Corvettes what's the backstory on that yeah these are cool first of all
10:35
I'm going to ask you another Pop Quiz Steve okay you know how many Corvettes were exported to Japan last year 15 no
10:41
no no see this is why they went right-hand Drive they did actually 576 stingrays and8 z6s went to Japan in 2023
10:50
now Chevrolet likes to offer these limited edition cars because it's one car and it's an easy way to promote one
10:55
car but Japanese customers also like these limited editions as well for 2024 Chevy is going to be offering what they
11:01
call the serve one edition which is modeled after the old Zora serve one
11:07
research vehicle and that's served CV right it stands for Chevrolet experimental research vehicle Zora built
11:14
this bullet-shaped car back in 1959 allowed him to do a lot of testing of advanced suspension components and other
11:21
things that they were dreaming up there at Chevrolet and so this new car is a C8
11:26
Corvette Stingray it's going to be in silver flare with the edge blue stripe on it just like the serve one vehicle
11:31
and then these are limited to 20 units with 15 being a 2LT Coupe and then five being a 3lt convertible the second
11:38
special edition they're not really special they're limited editions they're building just 20 of these as well this is called The Heritage Edition and it's
11:44
outfitted with a new Seawolf gray Tri coat and it's paired with that fully dipped adrenaline red interior wow and
11:51
it's going to have the hard to get q9i Gloss black wheels as well again they're only making 20 of those 15 being a 3lt
11:57
coupe and five being the 3lt convertible they did this last year they had two different stingrays they offered a limited edition package they go pretty
12:04
quickly I guess these are already for sale at deers in Japan so Doo Ari and go
12:09
pick your up a new Stingray they always get the cool cars don't they we ready we're do for another
12:15
special edition here I think for 2024 I'm excited to see what they come up with I agree buddy also speaking of 2024
12:22
Corvette made the top five in Kelly blue books best resale value award yeah these are annual Awards they recognize the 10
12:29
individual Vehicles projected to keep their highest percentage of the original MSRP after 5 years I don't want to say
12:35
it's a guess but you're taking cars you're looking at everything that the car offers and where their msrps are
12:41
over the years and they track this Stu year by year so they have a very good idea of where it's going to be what they say is that according to KBB these top
12:49
10 Vehicles retain their vehicle better than 95% of all other models and while the average vehicle may only be worth
12:55
42.4% of its original MSRP after 60 months these top 10 cars are worth an
13:00
average of about 59% I'll break it down for you real quick Ford Bronco was the highest at
13:05
66.7% number two Toyota Tacoma 62.6% number three mercedesbenz gclass
13:13
number four was the Toyota Tundra number five was the Corvette at 59.9% six was a Toyota gr Supra seven Toyota Prius eight
13:21
Toyota 4Runner nine Porsche 718 Cayman and then the 10 was the Ford Mavericks Yes you
13:27
heard me correct Toyota had five cars on this lift they're obviously doing something right over there yeah that's
13:33

16:34
4231 I'm your host Steve Garrett with me is my buddy Keith cornette from Corvette blogger.com every other week we keep you
16:41
current and up toate on what's happening in the world of Corvette in segment two we always cover Corvette racing and
16:47
Corvette rumors Keith we've got racing news from Cotter and also at Sebring yes
16:52
we talked about the cutter race actually before it ran so now we can actually go back and look at it and it was pretty
16:57
exciting we opened the Seasons this this is the World Endurance Championship season opener previously it opened at
17:02
Sebring the last few years but they went ahead and moved it back out to cutter for this and they actually ran the 1812
17:08
kilometer race so it was a good long race the good news really started for Corvettes the number 81 car won the pole
17:14
position this was the first GT3 pole position in wack it was cool that the Corvette won on his first timeout once
17:20
the race started the Corvettes ran pretty well for the first half of the race they stayed out of trouble they were right there in the mix we did see
17:27
one of the cars spun out didn't really cause any damage or anything like that but it did drop us down the standings just a little bit there's a lot of cars
17:33
over there I think in the GTD categories I think there's something like 20 cars or so wow so there's a lot of cars there
17:39
but then one of the other cars for TF sport ended up being some electronic issues they replaced electronic shifter
17:45
took them really out of contention for the race but they were still going to go on and get some laps in with the new cars but then it looked like that issue
17:51
was then related to an electrical harness issue so that Corvette had to be retired early so I think we finished T10
17:57
and p18 in class class okay the next race for TF sport in the wet Corvettes will be at the 6 hours of Imola April
18:04
19th looking forward to that that sounds good and we just had Sebring race this last weekend didn't we yes we're
18:10
obviously recording this on Friday this race is Sebring is at Saturday always a great place one of the hardest tracks
18:17
you got to respect the bumps as they say there a lot of that track is still run on concrete from the old runways of the
18:22
bombers it was World War II bomber base back in the day so we'll talk about this the next time around but one thing I did
18:28
want to mention was was running these special liveries for the Pratt Miller Motorsports cars in celebration of the
18:33
mobile one 50th Anniversary these are gold cars now they have the mobile one Pegasus on them and they look really
18:39
cool and so if you get a chance to check those out Cadillac also did one of their prototypes in the color just a nice way
18:45
to celebrate our longtime partner mobile one has been the factory oil fill in Corvette since I believe 1993 so
18:52
longtime Partners there and good friends with the team as for c ring we're hoping Corvette's really fair better this time
18:57
around especially for aw racing they had the two Corvettes at Daytona that didn't finish that race and so we really want
19:03
to see some better reliability down these cars Sebring and those bumps are a great place to test yeah definitely also
19:09
in imsa manufacturers are asking them to retake control of the balance of power for the rest of the season explain more
19:15
in layman's terms what that exactly means yeah so this is kind of a different system so we all know Bop
19:21
balance of performance basically what it does is allows race organizers to get all these different manufacturers with
19:27
different engines cars is naturally aspirated some cars are turbos and they all try to squeeze them down into a way
19:34
where they all run competitively with each other and no real car has an advantage over another for 2024 things
19:41
were going to be a little bit different they had this tested Daytona and the manufacturers basically were responsible
19:47
for setting their own performance expectations is what they called it but what it happened was Ferrari and BMW
19:53
exceeded those expectations at Daytona they lost a whole bunch of points because of that you know we say that sand bagger are going to be sandbaggers
20:00
right seems like there was some confusion there because the manufacturers are supposedly the ones that said you know what you guys really
20:05
need to take a b bit more control over this they're trying to be as transparent all about it but there were still some
20:11
issues there what we're looking at now is race organizers basically taking back the system utilizing some of the testing
20:17
data they had from tests that they do between races as well as from last year they've put everything back together
20:23
again we did get a new Bop for c ring the Corvette gained a little bit extra weight we did lose a liter of fuel where
20:30
I think we're carrying like 104 lers of fuel total now but there was wholesale changes up and down the GT3 classes so
20:36
we really have no idea how this is all going to shake out until we see how the car is finished afterwards and then
20:42
moving forward we're going to see probably these little changes here and there until imsa gets a better handle on
20:47
it but yeah it looks like it's just same old same old they do need to make sure that everything's fair and people are playing within the boundaries of it
20:54
unfortunately it's not a perfect system but it's what we have it'll be interesting to see how does for Corvette
21:00
Doug tan used to always say that if you're crying about Bop then they're probably doing something right that's
21:06
exactly right also if you're personally tracking your Corvette we have some information about how you need to add
21:12
more fluid for the transmission so we've been conditioned since 2020 Corvette Stingray the owner's manual called for
21:18
adding an additional two quarts of transmission fluid to the Dual clutch transmission for those who are taking their cars to the track you know that
21:24
required taking the car down to the dealership it was expensive it was something that you know there's a lot of questions do I take the fluid out
21:30
afterwards what do I do there the good news was in 2024 a new redesigned Pand
21:36
was introduced for the car so now you no longer have to add those two courts to the transmission well that's good but
21:42
that was actually a change that happened during the 2023 model year and so if you have a 2023 Corvette and you're thinking
21:49
about going to the track and if you need to add the flu or not you need to take a look at your VIN first because we have
21:56
the break of where the old one ended and the new one began and we want to thank Chevrolet particularly Haren reached out
22:01
and gave some this information over at the mid Corvette forum if your Stingray is sequence number
22:07
37,2 63 or higher you have the new 2024 transmission pan and you do not need to
22:13
add the two quarts of transmission fluid if you want to go to the track and then if you have a 70th Anniversary model
22:19
that sequence number is 3905 or higher one of the things we looked at was how many cars did this affect and it's
22:25
actually quite a bit it's like 5,500 stingrays wow and 674 70th Anniversary
22:30
stingrays that did get the new updated DCT pan on their cars good to know glad that we got this information out there
22:36
and thanks to Harland for help put it out there for us I'll need some extra fluid mine's number 1254 see you didn't
22:42
know that before though exactly and unfortunately the owner manual wouldn't have stated that either because they didn't know there was going to be that
22:48
change right these things are good to know whenever you have running changes that really impactful like the updating
22:54
of a transmission also in the rumors category Keith I was kind of excited about this but I don't think it's work for me GM is looking at patenting a
23:01
modular interchangeable steering wheel I thought wow we can add some carbon fiber on the steering wheel I don't think
23:06
that's what they're talking about though well I mean it could be you know so the idea is that you could change the style
23:12
of your steering wheel without actually having to go to the dealership your column comes out you have your internal
23:17
Center area with the airbag and all the electronics and stuff and then you can basically Custom Design how the steering
23:23
wheel that you want it to look like if you wanted a Yol style like Night Rider or the Tesla you could go with that and
23:30
then you could snap on a rounded bottom or a flat bottom you could snap on a rounded top or you could even do like
23:36
the squirkle design of the C8 but the idea is that you can customize the designs and shapes of your steering
23:41
wheel based on your taste and then you can do it yourself without having to go to the dealership I don't know if this will come to fruition or not there's

4231 I'm your host Steve Garrett with me is Keith cornet from Corvette blogger.com if you want a deeper dive
26:09
into any of the stories Keith and I cover you can always go to Corvette blogger.com in this final segment we
26:15
always talk about the lighter side of Corvette Keith this first story I couldn't believe it eay number 18 is
26:21
already listed for sale are you sitting down
26:27
$389,999 yeah you know no sooner did we start hearing that the first Corvette ER were showing up at Chevy dealers then we
26:34
learned that one had shown up at a Chevy dealer had already been flipped and now was at a pre-owned dealership with this
26:39
huge astronomical sales price on it yeah you're right it was vin8 it's an r-ray convertible in torch red it's for sale
26:45
in Michigan for over $240,000 more than it's MSRP now this car was really nicely
26:51
loaded with options had visible carbon fiber ground effects carbon Flash painted carbon fiber Wheels I think the
26:56
MSRP was 147 but yeah to be listed for $389,999 I bet they're going to be open
27:03
for offers I got two words for the guy selling it pipe dream I got two words drug testing yeah
27:11
well that too now the eras are not subject to the six-month wait before the warranty is transferable is it it is
27:18
okay it's one of the restricted cars so this car no longer has a warranty on it we did a story last week about a ZO6
27:25
where it was flipped and then the new owner looking at having to replace the transmission but he's so underwater with the car he doesn't know what to do with
27:31
that so this is going to be another issue that we're going to be watching now we're dealing with some new technology with the battery and the
27:38
battery pack and the front motor but for the most part we have the tried and trusted lt2 in the back that's been no
27:44
problem we do have a new transmission to keep an eye on so yeah it's a good thing I think to have a warranty with these
27:49
cars both Z6 and eay good points all good points for sure also this was kind
27:54
of cool in New Zealand they had 100 Corvette people gather for their National Corvette convention over there
28:00
yeah it turns out Corvette enthusiasts are the same all around the world they like to gather they like to mix it up
28:05
and then they like to go for a drive and that's what we saw in New Zealand they had the National Corvette convention in
28:10
Denon which is on the south island of New Zealand and they had about a 100 Corvettes from all generations they come
28:15
in they do a show a lot of camaraderie and then they go out for a cruise around 100 kilometers around the countryside
28:21
there were some pictures I mean just really beautiful countryside there really cool to see we always like to share that plus reach out to them just
28:28
say hey we saw what you did over there it's pretty cool and lets them know that they're not alone in the world either that's very cool also our buddy Dave
28:35
Kenda friend of the show who's been on Corvette today he has built a version of the C1 Corvette called the cf1 and that
28:42
won the Riddler award talk about that and tell us what the Riddler award is yeah so it's a prestigious Riddler award
28:49
given out at the Detroit Autorama every year I think the Adorama show has been going on for like 70 years now I mean
28:55
it's really a long time going way back and they do custom cars so the Riddler goes out to the best custom car or hot
29:01
rod here's the key A lot of times it takes these guys years to build these cars the car has to be built in secret
29:07
it cannot be revealed prior to the show oh so that's why we've never heard about this car before this is a coupe version
29:13
of that cf1 the 1953 Corvette roadsters that kig has been building but this is the coupe version so that's why it's
29:19
really cool not only that but the car is powered by a 12 cylinder motor hence they nickname 12 air just an amazing
29:26
piece of rolling artwork Dave says that there isn't one store-bought piece on the whole exterior of the car everything
29:31
was hand fabricated we have this walk around video you can really see the amount of craftsmanship that wi in this
29:37
car it's truly stunning and definitely worthy of winning the Riddler award and this is actually his first Riddler award
29:42
actually the first time that he's went out for it seen other designers in the past win it good for him and again go
29:48
back and listen to Dave kig on Corvette today yeah and he's one for one winning goes for the Riddler award that's pretty
29:53
cool pretty good odds yeah yeah absolutely also we had an e-r hit the dyno and it gives us the highest hque of
30:00
any C8 Corvette yeah this was exciting Paragon performance got their hands on one of the very first eays I think they
30:06
drove it from St Louis up to their place in Iowa where they had made sure it was properly broken in they put on the dyno
30:12
and ran some baseline pools and then the idea was to compare it to the Baseline stock PS of the stingray and the Z6 that
30:19
they already had too for this test though they had to use this linked Dino jet so basically we see the Corvettes
30:25
always go on the dino Jets the rear wheel spin but this is also front-wheel drive oh they had to do a link Dino jet
30:31
which has the drums on both the front and the rear wheels and they're linked together so it's able to measure the
30:36
full power out of both the front and the rear and when they did that they came in 573 wheel horsepower and then 630 flip
30:45
pounds of torque wow highest C8 Corvette torque and that's out there and what's really amazing is it makes this torque
30:52
almost instantly 600 lb flips of torque at 2,000 RPMs they showed the dino curve
30:57
and it basically just goes straight up and Plateau is out to about 4,200 I mean it's just a amazing number especially
31:03
when you see it compared with the Z06 and in the stingray both the stingray and the r-ray they fall off together
31:09
whereas you look at the Z6 it just keeps going because that car can rev all the way up to the 8600 so that's where it's
31:14
making all its power at the end there but that eay making that instant torque at 2,000 RPMs that's your low torque
31:21
King right there that's amazing what numbers wow that's pretty incredible we didn't see that car at the drag strip
31:27
yeah that's where where we're going to see the full benefits of the all-wheel drive exactly our final story buddy we
31:32
had another L88 Corvette sell for big money at meum Glendale yeah you know it seems like big money but in the grand
31:38
scheme of things or not it was surprising how low this car sold for I commented on it because I didn't
31:43
understand the details of the time it's a yellow 1966 L88 fully documented everybody knows this car I think it's
31:50
the only one that's in yellow it might be the only L88 from 67 that has its original engine block in it because
31:56
these cars were used as race and blew them up all the time yeah it hammered for 1.65 million and then the buyer
32:03
commission the total was 1,8 155,000 I say this surprising because Corvette
32:09
Mike had this car listed back in 2019 for 3.95 million and it sold at meum
32:15
Glendale 2021 for 2.65 million so it looked like the seller took nearly a
32:20
million dollar loss on the car ouch but this is where it gets sad we unfortunately learned this was ended up
32:25
being an estate sale the car was owned by Rick I can never say his last name correct Rick twari of the American
32:31
muscle car museum he did this huge collection that he liquidated but he still had a couple L88 this was being
32:37
one of them that he bought for 2.65 million just a couple years ago but he passed away last year and so his estate
32:44
put the car up for sale and obviously it was at no reserve and they did not get the money out of it that I think they
32:49
thought they were going to get on the flip side it was teret pro team was there he picked up the car and I'm sure we're going to see it again at another
32:56
auction in a not too distant future yeah probably well buddy thanks for being back on Corvette today we'll see you in
33:02
