Kansas City in June of 1978. That's when

Yeah. I started for Malcolm Connor

Automotive. They owned five or six

different brands and Malcolm Connor

Chevrolet was the Corvette dealership in

the world from the mid60s through 1994

or five. They were number one in

Corvette sales worldwide. And that was

recognized by General Motors. It was

just a phenomenal experience to work for

the Connor family.

Yeah. What other dealerships did you

work for and how long were you at those

I was with the Connor group from 78

through 90 and then with Damascus

Well, the Connor family was great

friends with Zora and Elfie, and I just

got to know him through his visits to

the dealership, which were yearly and

sometimes more than that, but he would

stay a whole week. It's pretty funny

because I just asked Gary the other day

because he had a ticket stub of Zoras

from his plane flight to New Jersey from

Michigan. The Connors would put him up

and go to dinner with him and he'd come

to the dealership all the time. I tell

you one of my favorite stories is

actually Gary Connor's story. Him and
5:30
his wife Kathy took Zor and Elfie to the

local golf club. It's an old club called

Edgewood Country Club in Riverdale, New

Jersey. And I actually lived about a

half mile from the club. So, they went
5:41
to dinner that night, which was upstairs

because, as you can imagine, it's like a
5:44
hundred-y old building, and it's got a
5:46
long winding staircase, very wide, and
5:50
the banister is very wide. After a night
5:52
of dinner and drinks and whatnot, and

Kathy was a big- time cutup, just a very

funny person, just a great gal. And she
5:59
goes on to the banister and puts her
6:02
stomach on the banister and rides the
6:03
banister all the way down. Oh, wow.

And she goes like that. Right. And so

the next thing Gary says, he sees Zora

doing the same thing. And Gary in slow

motion goes, "No." You know, because

here Zora at 73,45, whatever he was, and

Kathy was only like 32, you know, and so

Zora rides the banister all the way down

going wee, you know. I remember Gary

telling the story the next day. He was

just glad nothing happened because he

said, "I would have got a call from

General Motors." Even though he was

retired, he was still a legend with

General Motors. I could just imagine him

breaking a rib or two, you know.

Oh my gosh, what a great story though.

That's fantastic. Zoro was still doing

it in the 70s, wasn't he?

Yeah, in the mid70s. He's just a

character. One of the things I always

quote with him cuz I was just a young

guy trying to learn from everything and

anybody. And Gary never realized how

much I was a sponge because I listened

and I didn't talk. So every time I

talked to Zora each year, I would say,

you know how the magazines would always

have new stuff coming out? you know, the

new mid engine and all this stuff. So, I

would ask him and he would go in his

Russian accent and say, "Rumors sell

magazines, not cars." That was his quote

to me.

knew what was going on, didn't he?

a GM new vehicle out of the country. You

But I can sell used Corvettes. And I've

sold them in the Netherlands, Guam

by and we just have fun with it. But the

neatest story is I've actually sold six

Banebridge Island. Now that is eight

miles off the coast of Seattle,

think Fairfax, Virginia. He had bought

very first Corvette. And then he turned

around, he had gotten on my list for the

C8. He ordered a Redmiss convertible and

he absolutely loves the car. He loved

the 15, but obviously the C8 is a game

changer on the mid-enine Corvette forum

a lot as Myere Webb is his name. He went

from being a newbie in 2015 to a very

knowledgeable guy about Corvettes. He

really does a lot for his Corvette club

over there in Northern Virginia. Does so

cool thing about it was the guy that was

five obviously taking delivery that day.

and they all took pictures together. It

incredible display of goods that a lot

of the vendors that I've dealt with over

the years had donated for the trunk and

was very nice. And I think everybody had

just incredibly nice and generous to do

that for me. It's always great to be

recognized for your work. Let's face it,

And so that was very nice of them. The

man that runs the 12 state zone, his

name is Dan Adamek and he actually was

asked by Mary Barrett to come down and

see me and shook my hand. It was just a

neat experience cuz I look up to these

guys. All the guys at GM are great and

the gals. And then just last week, I got

a text from Mark Royce, the president of

General Motors.

So that was pretty neat. I had met him

in 2011 and 12 at Lemon. They had a

two-year contest, two different years,

to Lama a couple times. That's where I

first met Mark Royce and his wife and

in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Mike, it took

you a little bit over two years to sell

a thousand Corvettes from May of 2021,

which was number 5,000 to July of 2023.

Talk about the lucky person who was

delivering number 6,000 and that

happened on July 22nd.

Yeah, this gentleman's bought four

Corvettes and two Taho from me and

travels four hours each way. Funny story

is every time he buys a vehicle from me,

he brings down a couple of dozen bagels

and canoli and stuff like that because

I'm from New Jersey. And so every time

he goes to the bakery and orders a big

order, they go, "Oh, you're buying

another car in Maryland."

That's fantastic.

It is pretty funny. And we actually had

dinner Friday night at Firebirds. I'm

sitting across from him and he has no

idea. He's delivery number 6000. We sat

there for like two hours eating and

talking and whatnot. And he literally

had no idea. And so he comes in the next

day. And while he was in the business

office taking care of the paperwork, I

went out and told the crowd what was

going on. And I had a black Z06 Z07

there for another customer and a white

Stingray for another customer and a

bunch out in the lot. All of them had

postcards with the number what delivery

it was on the flip side.

So I told everybody to stand around the

black car. There was like 30, 40 people

standing around the black car. He comes

out of the business office and hands me

the temp tag and everybody's got their

back to him. So, he was like thinking

nothing of it. And then I started

talking to the crowd saying, "Okay, what

we're going to do is all the customers

are going to go and turn over the

postcard." And Ron, you're going to turn

over yours and let's see what number you

are. And that's how he found out he was

number 6,000. Which was pretty cool cuz

he actually drove down just to be there

when number 5,000 went and took pictures

and stuff like that. So, he knew the

drill, but he had no idea it was going

to be him.

car. He's just over the moon. He got on

my list 6 years ago and he had taken

delivery of a 23C8 in I want to say

September or something like that and

ended up trading it in for the Z06. He

had put two deposits down for a C8 and a

Z06 and he ended up trading it in the C8

and he wanted the Z06 cuz he had had a

Well, I was a big New York Rangers fan
