attained in the world of Corvette. Well,
3:19
today we're going to talk more about him
3:21
and his personal relationship with
3:23
America's sports car. Welcome back to
3:25
the show, Mr. Mike Ferman. Mike, welcome
3:27
back to Corvette today, my friend.
3:29
How you doing, Steve?
3:30
Great. Thanks for coming back on the
3:32
show, buddy. Let's start off a little
3:34
personal background. Tell me about your
3:36
family growing up with your siblings.
3:38
Where did you grow up?
3:39
I grew up in a small town of Montail,
3:42
New Jersey. Probably only 4,000 people
3:44
lived in the town.
3:44
Wow.
3:45
Four miles by 6 miles long. I had two
3:48
sisters and one brother. My parents are
3:50
long gone. My brother's been gone 12
3:52
years now. And so I just have my two
3:54
older sisters.
3:54
Nice. Did you guys grow up in a car
3:56
family?
3:57
Not at all.
3:59
Huh.
4:00
I'm the car nut in the family.
4:02
Wow. Oh, that's pretty cool. Now, was
4:04
Corvette always your go-to car, Mike, or
4:06
were there other cars before a Corvette?
4:08
Well, I guess you could say that I was
4:10
heavy into the Oldmobile 442s for a long
4:13
time. Right off the bat, at the age of
4:15
18, they were more affordable than a
4:16
Corvette,
4:17
right?
4:18
As far as ownership goes. Right around
4:20
when I was 29, I started flipping over
4:22
to Corvettes and 442s. And then
4:24
somewhere around 9567 is when I just had
4:27
Corvettes in my stable and no more 442s.
4:30
Tell me the story about when you
4:31
realized you were actually a Corvette
4:33
guy.
4:33
Well, I'm in the library spring of 78
4:36
and graduating high school and I kept on
4:39
seeing all these magazine articles on a
4:40
1978 Indy500 pace car and I love the
4:44
silver interior. It reminded me of like
4:46
a lunar rocket space age and that did it
4:49
for me. I just fell in love with the
4:50
Corvettes right from that moment.
4:52
I love that 78 pace car, buddy. That was
4:54
one of my favorites. If I could own a
4:56
stable of Corvettes, that 78 pace car
4:58
would be in that stable.
4:59
Yep. I agree.
5:00
Now, in school, you participated in
5:02
sports. And you were a wrestler. You
5:04
actually wrestled a celebrity, didn't
5:06
you?
5:06
I wrestled a couple of them, actually. I
5:08
wrestled a guy named Mike Shuffling. He
5:10
had been in a bunch of movies, and one
5:12
of them was
5:12
16 Candles, which was pretty famous back
5:15
in the day. He played Jake, the rich kid
5:17
that drove the red Porsche. Then
5:18
obviously Thomas C. May I was Tom Cruz.
5:22
I wrestled him in high school. and Mike
5:23
Shuffling. I wrestled in college. He
5:25
went on to big-time fame in movies and
5:28
stuff.
5:28
Very cool. And didn't you kind of end
5:30
Tom Cruz's wrestling career?
5:32
Well, the funny thing is is that our
5:34
match lasted about 45 seconds. I
5:36
separated his shoulder rather quickly.
5:38
So, a couple weeks went by and I guess
5:40
he asked the coach if he could go out
5:42
for theater because he couldn't wrestle
5:44
anymore. And the coach said, "Yeah, no
5:46
problems whatsoever." So, he went into
5:47
theater and I think that the first play
5:49
he was in was Guys and Dolls and the
5:51
rest was history. I was going to say the
5:53
rest is history for sure.
5:56
That's funny. Now, buddy, you've been
5:58
selling cars about as long as I've been
6:00
on the radio, which is 46 years. Where
6:02
did you get your first Corvette sales
6:04
job? What was the name of the
6:05
dealership?
6:06
Well, I was very, very fortunate to live
6:08
close to the Malcolm Connor Auto Group.
6:10
They were the number one Corvette dealer
6:12
in the world from probably the mid60s
6:14
all the way through 1995 or so. I
6:16
started working for them right off the
6:18
bat and stayed with them until I moved
6:20
to Maryland in 1990.
6:22
Did you ever think you were going to be
6:23
selling Corvettes 46 years later, buddy?
6:25
I didn't think I'd be selling anything
6:27
46 years later.
6:29
It's been an illustrious career, that's
6:31
for sure. Well, Mike, let's take our
6:33
first break. When we come back, we're
6:34
going to talk about the Corvettes that
6:35
you've personally owned. And my friends,
6:37
it's a long list. That's coming up next
6:40
on Corvette Today. We all know that
6:42

10:32
Garrett. With me is Mike Ferman. We are
10:34
talking about Mike's personal
10:35
relationship with Corvette. In this
10:37
second segment, we're going to talk
10:38
about some of the Corvettes that Mike
10:40
has personally owned. Mike, tell
10:41
everybody, this is an amazing number,
10:44
everybody. Tell everybody how many
10:45
Corvettes you've owned in your lifetime.
10:47
I'm at number 25 right now. I have them
10:50
broken down in transmissions, colors,
10:53
generations. It's pretty fun to do
10:55
sometimes. Corvette people are numbers
10:56
orientated.
10:57
Absolutely. Do you have any fun stories
10:59
about some of the Corvettes you've owned
11:00
in the past?
11:01
Probably for each and every one of them.
11:05
Listen, Corvette is not for the shy. I
11:07
say that to everybody when they take
11:08
delivery, whether it's first one or the
11:11
10th one. Doesn't matter if you go to a
11:12
gas station, you're tooling around on a
11:14
Sunday, whatever. Somebody's going to
11:15
talk to you and have a discussion with
11:17
you about their cousin, their uncle,
11:19
themselves involving a Corvette.
11:21
You know, like I always say, buddy,
11:22
every Corvette owner has a story and you
11:24
hear about them all the time, don't you?
11:26
No doubt. Every single time, every day.
11:28
For sure. So, do you lean more towards
11:30
coups or convertibles?
11:32
You know, it depends on the car and the
11:34
generation in all honesty. I happen to
11:37
love the coupe in the C2, but in the C8,
11:41
I prefer the convertible. I've always
11:43
bought the car just like real estate
11:45
where it's always a location, location,
11:47
location. Yeah.
11:48
Well, with the old Corvettes, I always
11:49
said it's condition, condition,
11:51
condition.
11:51
I like that. That makes a lot of sense.
11:54
Is there a specific color you lean more
11:55
towards, buddy?
11:56
Blue. I just did the count and I think
11:59
I've owned nine or 10 of my 25 have been
12:02
blue.
12:02
Well, let's go over the list a little
12:04
bit. talk about some of the more
12:05
significant ones that you've owned. I
12:07
know you texted me the list and it's
12:09
amazing.
12:10
Yeah, I've had some cool vehicles.
12:12
There's no doubt. VIN number-wise, cool
12:14
color-wise or color combo. Cool.
12:17
Options, cool. Some old ones with the
12:19
original window sticker like for a 67. I
12:22
had all the original paperwork for a 67
12:24
convertible. All the build sheets, you
12:26
name it. Paperwork. And most recently,
12:28
my last several C8s, I've had some cool
12:30
VIN numbers.
12:31
Nice. Now, I'm looking over the list
12:33
here. The only Corvette you haven't
12:35
owned is a C3. What happened in the C3
12:38
era?
12:38
That's when I started selling them. I
12:40
never came across one the right time.
12:42
It's about timing and I've had some
12:44
great ones offered to me, but it just
12:46
wasn't the right timing. One day I'll
12:47
get one cuz I happen to love the body
12:49
style.
12:50
Yeah, absolutely. C3s are awesome. So,
12:52
you've had two C1s, you've had three
12:55
C2s, you've had five C4s, you've had one
12:58
C5, you've had five C6s, you've had four
13:02
C7s, and then you've had five C8s.
13:05
That's an amazing list of cars.
13:07
Yeah, it's a great array of cars over a
13:10
70-year period, isn't it?
13:11
Yeah, definitely. So, do you lean more
13:13
towards manual or automatics?
13:16
You know, I love the stick. Basically,
13:18
the only reason I bought the automatics
13:20
is because I had no choice. To give you
13:22
an example of the 5C8s, they're all
13:24
automatics because that's all that's
13:25
offered,
13:26
right?
13:26
Some of the C4s I bought, I bought them
13:28
used and was just a great car.
13:30
Obviously, I didn't worry about it being
13:32
an automatic. Usually would be a low
13:34
mileage mint car. Like my 1988 blue
13:37
Corvette coupe was owned by Zor Dunto's
13:40
private secretary and the plenum on the
13:42
engine was signed by Zora Dunto and I
13:45
had the paperwork. The car was delivered
13:47
to the Milford proving grounds, not to a
13:49
dealership, but to the proven grounds.
13:51
And his private secretary of like 25 or
13:53
30 years was the owner of it. And I
13:55
bought it from her husband.
13:56
That's really amazing. Now, how many of
13:59
these have been new and how many have
14:00
been used?
14:01
Let's go to my list. I think I have it
14:03
down here. I've had 12 new Corvettes and
14:06
13 used Corvettes.
14:08
Now, some of these are really unique
14:09
colors. There's marina blue in the '60s
14:12
era. There's medium blue. There's bright
14:14
red. There's quazar blue from a 1992
14:17
white one and magnetic red, too. Those
14:20
are pretty unique colors.
14:21
Yeah, the quaazar blue had white
14:22
interior and a white top in 1992 and it
14:26
only had 7,900 miles and that car was
14:29
like brand new.
14:30
Wow. And there's Millennium Yellow.
14:32
That was a hot color yellow in the late
14:34
90s into the early 2000s. You know, my
14:37
67 coupe and I had every piece of
14:39
paperwork, original window sticker and
14:40
all. My 67 convertible had all the
14:43
original paperwork and it was a courtesy
14:45
delivery from a dealer in California to
14:48
Seattle. Interesting paperwork.
14:49
Mike, with all the Corvettes that you
14:51
own, tell me what your wife thinks about
14:53
all these and does she take interest in
14:54
them like you do.
14:56
Well, the interesting thing is when she
14:58
was a day or two old, she came home in
15:00
1960 in a 1957 Corvette. Her father was
15:04
a Corvette guy.
15:05
Wow.
15:05
And had bought a 57 Corvette a year old
15:08
when he was in college. Couple years go
15:10
by, they start a family, they're

married. I have a phenomenal picture of
15:13
my mother-in-law holding my wife as a
15:16
day old baby in front of the 57
15:18
Corvette. And it's a beautiful picture.
15:20
That's fantastic. Well, buddy, let's
15:22
take our final break. When we come back,
15:24
you have a big announcement that is a
15:25
Corvette Today exclusive. Stick around.

15:45
Hey honey, are you awake?
15:46
M I am now.
15:48
I can't sleep. Since turning 50, I keep
15:50
dreaming of a red door and a blue door.
15:52
Somehow knowing there are only choices
15:54
for retirement.
15:56
Okay.
15:56
Through the red door, we outlive our
15:58
money. We have to rely on our kids.
16:00
We're stuck on a fixed income. It's
16:02
terrifying.
16:03
Yeah, that would suck. But through the
16:05
blue door, our money outlives us. We
16:07
retire on our terms. Our kids stay our
16:09
kids, not our caretakers. We make work
16:12
optional.
16:13
Yes, that's much better. That's what I
16:15
want, too. But what do we do?
16:17
We call True Wealth and Company at
16:18
913-6538783.
16:21
They specialize in helping successful
16:23
people make work optional. They're our

16:30
I can't sleep. I'm going to check out
16:32

16:36
going to be our retirement.

18:51
Garrett. With me is Corvette salesman
18:54
extraordinaire Mike Ferman. In this
18:56
third and final segment, Mike has got a
18:58
big announcement. Mike, this is a
18:59
Corvette Today exclusive. First of all,
19:01
thanks for announcing it on Corvette
19:03
today. Tell everybody about the huge
19:05
announcement.
19:06
Well, I have to tell you, it still blows
19:08
me away. I had asked many months ago.
19:11
It's one of those things I never thought
19:12
I would get and I'm still blown away by
19:15
it. But I was able to take delivery on
19:17
October 10th of VIN number 0001
19:21
of 20124 Corvette Z06 convertible. If
19:25
anybody knows anything about Corvettes,
19:26
they're built sequentially. Any serial
19:29
number one of anything is really rare,
19:32
but to get it in a Corvette is just
19:33
super cool. I'm blown away. I really
19:36
happy with it. It's a Riptide Blue.
19:38
Obviously, it was the first Riptide Blue
19:40
Z06 built. It has the tension and
19:42
twilight blue dipped interior. I'm just
19:44
thrilled to death to own it, and it's in
19:46
my garage since a little over a month
19:48
ago. Five, six weeks ago, I got it.
19:50
Very nice. Now, I love hearing specs.
19:52
You gave us a little bit, but tell us
19:53
what else you did. Does it have front
19:55
end lift, magnetic ride, and stuff like
19:57
that?
19:57
Well, magnetic ride standard in a Z06,
20:00
so it's got that, but it's got the
20:01
carbon ceramic brakes. It's got the
20:04
spider design machine face forged
20:06
aluminum wheels. It's got the carbon
20:07
flash painted in the cells and rooftop.
20:10
It's got the body color exterior accents
20:12
and I got the competition sport seats
20:15
which flips the colors on the inside.
20:17
Instead of the tension blue headrest,
20:19
it's got the twilight blue headrest
20:21
which I liked a lot. I also got the Z06
20:24
badge in red on the side, but I chose
20:27
just to have the Z, the red Z on there.
20:29
So, it's got the red Z and the 06 is in
20:32
black still. So, the Z really jumps out.
20:34
You like Zoro.
20:35
I like that. That's pretty cool. Now,
20:37
besides this being VIN number 00001,
20:41
why is this Corvette special to you?
20:43
It's my 25th Corvette that I've owned.
20:46
We all work hard for our money. I think
20:48
it was very kind of GM. I got lucky, I'm
20:50
sure, to get VIN number one. It's just
20:52
the whole package, the car, the color
20:54
combo, the Z06, the VIN number,
20:57
everything.
20:58
Yeah, absolutely. This one's going to be
21:00
a keeper, don't you think?
21:01
You know, I always say we're all just
21:03
keepers for the next person. I'd like to
21:06
keep this for as long as I can. I really
21:08
enjoy having this VIN number and this
21:10
color combo. So, I'm most certainly
21:12
going to keep this longer than the last
21:13
several I've had. I'll give you an
21:15
example. I started my C8 list March of
21:18
2014 and I put three folders in place
21:20
with thousand deposits each. And then I
21:22
started the Z06 list for the C8. I want
21:25
to say that was January of 2015. And I
21:28
put two folders in place with $1,000
21:30
each. So, I've had three C8s and now
21:33
this is my second Z06. Those were the
21:35
five folders and my five C8s. Like I
21:37
said to you earlier, Chance Favors have
21:39
prepared mine and I was very fortunate
21:41
to get my fifth C8 as VIN number 0001.
21:44
That's awesome. So, is there going to be
21:46
another Corvette in your future after
21:48
this one? Maybe an or something beyond
21:50
that?
21:51
I don't have an -ray on my radar, but
21:53
someday I'm sure I'll get another one,
21:55
probably an older one to add to this and
21:57
go from there because there are some old
21:59
ones I'd love to get someday soon. But
22:01
right now, I'm just relishing and owning
22:02
this one. I just love it. And I got to
22:04
tell you a quick great story. Last week
22:06
I got a phone call from the gentleman in
22:08
Utah who found 00001
22:12
Corvette of 1953.
22:14
Wow.
22:14
So he was asking me cuz he knew I had
22:16
original pictures of VIN number 0014 of
22:20
1953. A buddy of mine's father had
22:23
delivered it and I got all the original
22:24
pictures from that delivery in October
22:26
of 53. So, we're going along talking
22:29
about his car and how he owns number one
22:31
for 53 and how cool that is and
22:33
everything else. And at the end of the
22:35
story, I said, you know, by the way,
22:36
I've got VIN number 00001, but for 2024
22:40
in a Z06. And he enjoyed my story just
22:43
as much as I enjoyed his story.
22:45
I can imagine. Yeah, that's very cool.
22:47
For sure. Well, Mike, it's great talking
22:49
to you again. Thanks for being back on
22:51
Corvette today. We look forward to
22:53
delivery number 7,000 coming up sometime
22:55
soon, right? I'm at like 6150, so I'm
22:58
moving up one at a time.
23:01
That's great. Thanks again, buddy.
23:02
You take care.
