3:14
from around the world. Well, here we
3:16
are, my friends. It's episode number
3:18
200. It's a monumentous event in my
3:21
book. And also, we're approaching year
3:24
number five of Corvette Today. I thought
3:26
I would take this episode and look back
3:28
over the past 200 episodes and talk to
3:30
you about how Corvette Today got started
3:32
and the background and the whole
3:34
beginning. It started back right at
3:36
COVID. I'm sure just like many of you, I
3:39
got furoughed from my day job during
3:41
COVID. And then I'm thinking to myself,
3:42
okay, what do I do? You know, I'm a disc
3:44
jockey in the radio here in Kansas City.
3:46
I've been on the air for 46 and a half
3:48
years. I'm on the number one radio
3:51
station in Kansas City, which is a
3:53
classic rock station. It's called 101
3:55
the Fox, KCFX Kansas City. This is also
3:59
the number one classic rock radio
4:01
station in the United States. I'm the
4:03
longest tenure disc jockey on the radio
4:05
here in Kansas City and also being the
4:08
president of the Corvette club. When I
4:09
got furoughed, it's like, okay, what do
4:11
I do now? My daughter, Lexi, in her
4:14
infinite wisdom, she said, "Dad, do a
4:17
podcast. Podcasts are really popular
4:20
right now. You're a radio guy. You know,
4:22
audio like the back of your hand." She
4:24
said, "Do something that you know and
4:26
love, something you know a lot about,
4:28
something you're passionate about, like
4:30
Corvettes. do a Corvette podcast. And I
4:33
thought to myself, you know what? Maybe
4:35
that has some legs. So, the first thing
4:37
I did was is I looked up and Googled
4:40
Corvette podcast. This was at the end of
4:42
March in 2020. Believe it or not, my
4:45
friends, there was no current podcasts
4:48
in March of 2020 on Corvettes. The most
4:51
current or the most recent podcast was
4:53
back four or five years ago.
4:55
Interestingly enough, in January of
4:57
2020, I had open heart surgery. So when
5:00
I went back to work in March of 2020 at
5:02
the beginning, we were talking about
5:04
getting furoughed and everything and
5:05
that's how it all came about. So after I
5:07
Googled Corvette Podcast, I started
5:09
thinking about this. Maybe that's my
5:11
opening. So I did a little bit of
5:13
research and started putting things
5:15
together. And as you know, Corvette
5:17
today is structured like a radio show.
5:19
There's three segments. There is a
5:21
commercial break in between each of the
5:23
three segments. That's how I got started
5:25
in midappril of 2020. It took me two or
5:28
three weeks to kind of put this all
5:29
together in my head and stuff like that.
5:31
My friend Jeremy Wellbborne from the
5:33
Southwest Oklahoma Corvette Club, he's
5:35
the president, was guest number one.
5:38
Then I went on to Mike Ferman, the
5:40
number one Corvette salesperson in the
5:42
world. He's on multiple episodes.
5:44
Corvette Today, number two, number 60,
5:47
number 174, and then number 190. As a
5:50
matter of fact, that second episode with
5:52
Mike in it is today still one of the
5:55
largest listened to shows of Corvette
5:57
Today history. Then after that, I went
5:59
to Keith Cornet from corvette
6:01
blogger.com and it just went on and on
6:03
and on. So I started getting guests for
6:05
every single week. But I had an idea.
6:08
First, I wanted to get a title for the
6:10
show that didn't expire. The name didn't
6:12
expire. That's why I chose Corvette
6:14
today. So, I called Keith in
6:17
midepptember of 2020 and I said, "Keith,
6:19
you know, the show is called Corvette
6:21
Today. You do a daily blog on Corvettes
6:24
called Corvette Blogger." I said, "You
6:26
know what? What if we did a news and
6:28
headline show and see how it goes? And
6:30
if it goes pretty well, maybe we'll do
6:33
it like once a month." Well, we started
6:35
our first news and headline show on
6:37
Corvette Today on September 7th of 2020.
6:40
That show was so popular and was so
6:42
wellreceived, I called Keith back and
6:45
said, "Dude, once a month ain't going to
6:46
hack it. We're going to have to do this
6:48
every other week." So, we've been doing
6:50
our news and headline shows every other
6:53
week since September 7th of 2020. So,
6:56
it's a really big anniversary, not only
6:58
for Corvette Today, but also for our
7:00
news and headline show. And to this day,
7:03
Corvette Today is the only current
7:05
podcast on Corvette, almost five years
7:08
later and 200 episodes. I also started a
7:11
YouTube channel in March of 2020. What I
7:14
do is I take the audio from the podcast
7:16
and I marry pictures and video to create
7:18
the YouTube version of Corvette Today.
7:21
So whether you'd like to watch it on
7:22
YouTube or listen to it on podcast, you
7:25
get the exact same content on either
7:27
side. And our website is
7:28
corvettetoday.com. You can access
7:31
everything there. You can join our
7:32
Facebook group. We also have an email
7:34
that goes out twice per week talking
7:37
about what's on Corvette Today. Then on
7:39
Thursdays, I do a midweek reminder about
7:41
hey, don't forget about Corvette Today,
7:43
here's what's on this week. Plus, I also
7:46
do a here's what's coming up next week
7:48
on Corvette Today. So, that's the story
7:50
of Corvette Today. We're going to take a
7:52
quick break and when we come back on
7:54
segment number two, we're going to talk
7:56
about some of the guests that have been
7:57
on Corvette Today. Coming up next on our
8:00
200th episode.

10:33
I'm your host, Steve Garrett. This is
10:35
episode number 200 of Corvette Today and
10:37
almost 5 years into the show. In this
10:40
second segment, we're going to talk
10:41
about some of the guests that have been
10:43
on Corvette Today over 200 episodes.
10:46
First off, I'm just going through this
10:47
at random. Rick Malone, the lead
10:49
instructor at Spring Mountain at the Ron
10:51
Fellows Corvette Performance Driving
10:53
School, has been on the show. He's been
10:55
on multiple times on episode number nine
10:58
and also episode number 128. Also, the
11:01
late Reeves Callaway has been on the
11:03
show. Reeves was a huge fan of Corvette
11:05
Today. He's been on episode number 10
11:08
and number 148. As a matter of fact,
11:11
Reeves paid me the ultimate compliment
11:13
one day. He said, "Steve, my show
11:15
episode number 10 was the best Callaway
11:18
Cars interview I've ever done." And I
11:20
stopped for a minute and I thought about
11:21
it. I said, "Reves, are you saying
11:23
ever?" He said, "Absolutely. The best
11:26
Callaway Cars interview I have ever done
11:28
has been on Corvette Today." I was
11:30
honored. Also, since Reeves passing last
11:33
year in the summer of 2023, his son
11:35
Peter, who is now taken over, has been
11:38
on Corvette Today as well. That was a
11:40
really, really fun episode to talk about
11:42
the future of Callaway cars. Also, my
11:44
friend John Kraman, the TV host of the
11:47
Mikum Auctions, has been on multiple
11:49
appearances of Corvette Today. John,
11:51
welcome back to Corvette Today, my
11:53
friend.
11:53
Hey, Steve. Thank you so much, man. You
11:55
know, I've been really been looking
11:56
forward to this. You are really the tip
11:58
of the spear in the Corvette world with
12:01
your podcast. First of all, you do such
12:02
a great job with it and the reach that
12:04
it has and the influence that it has is
12:07
extreme. I just wanted you to know that
12:09
as a Corvette enthusiast, I've owned
12:11
three Corvettes. The entire Corvette
12:13
community is just so proud to have you
12:15
as an asset. And I mean that from the
12:17
bottom of my heart, my friend.
12:18
And we can't forget about the Corvette
12:20
team. First of all, the brand manager
12:22
for Corvette, Harlon Charles, has made
12:24
multiple appearances on Corvette Today.
12:26
He's been on episode number 16 and also
12:29
number 84 and some other ones as well.
12:32
We've actually had a Corvette Today
12:33
Extra with Harlon Charles talking about
12:35
the C8 Z06. Buddy, thank you so much for
12:38
being back on Corvette Today.
12:40
Congratulations on the -ray. Can't wait
12:43
to see it at an upcoming show and get it
12:45
out on the streets with everybody else.
12:47
Thanks. And once again, you do a great
12:49
job on your podcast and really
12:50
appreciate you having me be a part of
12:52
them. Also, Corvette chief engineer Josh
12:54
Holder has been on multiple episodes of
12:56
Corvette Today, and the executive chief
12:58
engineer Taj Jar was also on episode
13:02
number 32. The former plant director at
13:04
Bowling Green Assembly, Kai Spandandy,
13:07
has been on the show. Also, the exterior
13:09
design director, the current exterior
13:11
design director, Kirk Benyan, has been
13:13
on the show. And also, the former
13:15
exterior design director, Tom Peters,
13:18
has also made appearances on Corvette
13:20
Today. Some of my favorites have been
13:22
with Jim Mero, the retired Corvette test
13:24
driver. Jim has been on multiple
13:26
episodes, number 18, number 42, and
13:30
number 78. And speaking of Jim Mero, we
13:33
can't forget about Corvette Racing.
13:34
We've had lots of people on from
13:36
Corvette Racing. The photographer for
13:38
team Corvette, Richard Prince, has been
13:40
on the show twice. Also, the former
13:42
director of Corvette Racing, who started
13:44
everything in 1999, Doug Feehan, has
13:47
been on the show. The current director
13:49
of Corvette Racing, Laura Wantrop
13:51
Clauser, has made a couple appearances
13:53
on Corvette Today. Also, race drivers
13:56
Ron Fellows and Andy Pilgrim have both
13:58
been on Corvette Today as well. And
14:00
can't forget about the retired crew
14:02
chief for Corvette Racing, Dan Binks.
14:05
Also, we've had a lot of people from the
14:07
National Corvette Museum on Corvette
14:09
Today. The former curator, Derek Moore,
14:11
has been on multiple appearances of
14:13
Corvette Today. Also, the current
14:15
president and CEO of the National
14:16
Corvette Museum, Sharon Bronner, has
14:19
been on the show as well. The new
14:20
marketing director, Ryan Ikler, just
14:22
made a recent appearance on Corvette
14:24
Today. Also, marketing manager Mariah
14:26
Hughes was just on at the end of January
14:29
here on Corvette Today this year. My
14:31
buddy Adam Bokeh, the director of the
14:34
National Corvette Museum Insurance
14:35
Branch, has made multiple appearances on
14:38
Corvette Today. Also, the former
14:39
director of collections and education,
14:42
Brian Baker, has appeared on the show.
14:44
Also, National Corvette Museum employees
14:46
like Katie Ellison, the former marketing
14:48
director, has also made an appearance on
14:50
Corvette Today. And I can't forget about
14:53
my buddy Kevin McCay, the famous
14:55
Corvette Hunter, has also appeared on
14:57
multiple shows on Corvette Today. Most
15:00
recently, Kevin was on the show talking
15:02
about the three Cunningham Corvettes
15:04
that raced in Lama in 1960 and made
15:07
their debut together again after almost
15:10
60 years. That was done last March of
15:12
2023 at the Amelia Island Concourse. I
15:16
went down there for the reveal. It was
15:18
really something. Kevin's team recently
15:20
restored car number one. They were done
15:22
at Kevin's shop, Corvette Repair in Long
15:25
Island, New York. And that was a huge,
15:27
huge event. And that evening was
15:29
absolutely spectacular, seeing those
15:31
three Cunningham Corvettes completely
15:33
restored and back together again for the
15:35
first time in 60 years at the Amelia
15:38
Island Concourse. Let's take our final
15:40
break. When we come back, talk about
15:42
some of the Corvette Today highlights
15:44
that have happened over the last 4 and
15:46
3/4 years. Coming up next on Corvette
15:48
Today.

17:12
Hey honey, are you awake? M
17:14
I am now.
17:16
I can't sleep. Since turning 50, I keep
17:18
dreaming of a red door and a blue door.
17:20
Somehow knowing there are only choices
17:22
for retirement.
17:23
Okay.
17:24
Through the red door, we outlive our
17:26
money. We have to rely on our kids.
17:28
We're stuck on a fixed income. It's
17:29
terrifying.
17:30
Yeah, that would suck.
17:32
But through the blue door, our money
17:34
outlives us. We retire on our terms. Our
17:36
kids stay our kids, not our caretakers.
17:39
We make work optional. Yes, that's much
17:42
better. That's what I want, too. But
17:44
what do we do?
17:44
We call True Wealth and Company at
17:46
913-6538783.
17:49
They specialize in helping successful
17:51
people make work optional. They're our
17:53
fiduciary blue door personal wealth
17:54
managers.
17:55
Hey, where are you going? It's 3:00 a.m.
17:58
I can't sleep. I'm going to check out
18:00
True Wealth & Company online at
18:01
retirewithr.com. That blue door is going
18:03
to be our retirement.

18:48
I'm your host Steve Garrett. We're
18:49
talking about the 200th episode of
18:52
Corvette Today and almost 5 years of
18:54
existence. In this final segment of
18:56
Corvette Today, we're going to talk
18:57
about some of the big highlights that
18:58
have happened over the last four and
19:00
three/4er years during Corvette Today's
19:02
existence. First having the three
19:04
horsemen on the show, Harlon Charles,
19:06
Josh Holder, and Taj Jar was a first.
19:09
They were on the show in early May of
19:11
2023. And this was really a first for
19:14
not only Corvette today, but for the
19:15
existence of Corvette. We had Harlon
19:17
Charles, the brand manager, Josh Holder,
19:20
the chief engineer, and Taj Jar, the
19:22
executive chief engineer, on the show at
19:25
the same time. And again, that was a
19:27
first. This has never happened in the
19:29
70-year history of Corvette. So, make
19:31
sure you watch it and listen to it. The
19:33
video is of all four of us talking. So,
19:36
instead of doing just pictures and video
19:38
to match the audio, we actually did a
19:40
live video of that show. And again,
19:42
that's episode number 160 that came out
19:45
on May 8th of 2023. Also, we had Dave
19:48
Kindig on the show. Dave is the host of
19:50
and Rides on Motor Trend TV. He's
19:53
with Kind Digit Design. And thanks to my
19:55
buddy Ken Lingfelter, who's been on the
19:57
show multiple times as well. Ken
19:59
connected me with Dave Kindig and that
20:01
was a really fun episode having Dave on
20:04
the show. In March of 2023, I was at
20:07
Amelia Island at the Concursors when all
20:09
three of the Cunningham Corvettes that
20:11
raced at 1960 at Lama were debuted again
20:14
together with Kevin McCay from Corvette
20:16
Repair in Long Island. So on Saturday, I
20:19
went to the Concourse event there at
20:20
Amelia Island. And I'm walking through
20:22
the cars and seeing all these beautiful
20:24
multi-million dollar cars. And there's a
20:27
guy that has one of the Cunningham
20:29
Corvettes from the C8 generation. Are
20:31
you familiar with those? They made only
20:33
60 of these. And this was car number
20:36
three. So I'm looking at it and I had my
20:38
Corvette today polo shirt on. It had the
20:40
logo and my name on the shirt. And the
20:42
guy that owns the car came over and
20:44
started talking to me. I told him,
20:46
"Congratulations on these cars. These
20:48
are $160,000 cars and they're pretty
20:50
darn cool. So all of a sudden he
20:52
recognized me and he said, "You're Steve
20:54
Garrett from Corvette Today." I said,
20:56
"Yeah, I am." He said, "I love your
20:59
show. I listen to it. I'm a faithful
21:01
listener. Have been listening for
21:03
years." And then he did something that
21:05
really, really surprised me. He said,
21:07
"Steve, would you sign my Corvette?" And
21:10
I said, "Oh my gosh." I said, "I don't
21:12
want to devalue or deface your car,
21:14
especially a C8 and a Cunningham
21:16
Corvette." He said, "No, no, actually,
21:19
this will add value to my car." So,
21:21
after 5 minutes or so of him trying to
21:24
talk me into it, I finally said, "Okay,
21:26
I will sign your Corvette." And I signed
21:29
it around the surround of the frunk in
21:31
the front trunk of the car. If you're
21:33
watching the YouTube video, you're
21:34
seeing the picture of my signature on
21:36
his car. That was pretty cool. And we
21:39
also had a Corvette Today exclusive. You
21:41
know who Mike Ferman is. Mike is the
21:43
number one Corvette salesperson in the
21:45
world. Mike has been on the show four
21:47
different times. I think we got to
21:49
highlight the sale and delivery of
21:51
Corvette number 5000 and Corvette number
21:54
6000 on our show here on Corvette Today.
21:56
Plus, Mike was honored to be able to
21:59
purchase the 2024 Corvette C806 number
22:02
one, VIN number 001, and we debuted that
22:06
and we announced that on Corvette today.
22:09
That was really exciting. Mike has got a
22:11
big announcement. Mike, this is a
22:13
Corvette today exclusive. First of all,
22:15
thanks for announcing it on Corvette
22:16
today. Tell everybody about the huge
22:18
announcement.
22:19
Well, I have to tell you, it still blows
22:21
me away. I had asked many months ago.
22:24
It's one of those things I never thought
22:25
I would get, and I'm still blown away by
22:28
it. But I was able to take delivery on
22:30
October 10th of VIN number 0001,
22:34
a 2024 Corvette Z06 convertible. If
22:38
anybody knows anything about Corvettes,
22:39
they're built sequentially. Any serial
22:42
number one of anything is really rare,
22:45
but to get it in a Corvette is just
22:46
super cool. I'm blown away. I really
22:49
happy with it. It's a Riptide Blue.
22:51
Obviously, it was the first Riptide Blue
22:53
Z06 built. It has the tension and
22:55
twilight blue dipped interior. I'm just
22:58
thrilled to death to own it and it's in
22:59
my garage since a little over a month
23:01
ago. Five, six weeks ago, I got it.
23:03
Also, it was pretty exciting to have the
23:05
guys from Australia at Carbon Revolution
23:08
who make the carbon fiber wheels for the
23:10
Z06 on the show. We had a guy from
23:12
Australia on with a guy from Detroit
23:14
simultaneously here on Corvette today.
23:17
Also, we had episodes dedicated to
23:19
Women's History Month, which is
23:21
traditionally March of every year. Last
23:23
year, we had an episode on the first
23:25
woman of first, Betty Skelton. We
23:27
highlighted her during the month of
23:29
March last year for Women's History
23:30
Month. And again, thanks to everyone who
23:33
attends my seminars at the Corvettes of
23:35
Carile show every August in Carlilele,
23:38
Pennsylvania. Thanks to Lance Miller of
23:40
Carile Events for giving me the platform
23:42
and the opportunity to talk about
23:44
Corvette today at Corvettes at Carile.
23:46
And thanks to everyone who recognizes me
23:48
and stops and says hello, whether I'm at
23:50
the NCM Michelin Bash or Corvettes at
23:53
Carile or any of the Corvette events
23:55
that I attend during the year. I
23:57
sincerely appreciate you and your
23:59
loyalty and dedication to my show,
24:01
Corvette Today. And finally, last but
24:03
not least, thanks to you, the faithful
24:05
listeners and the faithful viewers on
24:07
YouTube that make Corvette Today a
24:09
weekly thing and a lifestyle thing that
24:11
you have to have. I sincerely appreciate
24:13
you. Couldn't do it without you. This is
24:16
episode number 200. Hopefully, we'll
24:18
have 200 more. The start of year number
24:20
five comes up in the middle of April of
24:22
this year. I hope you'll join me in year
24:25
number five of Corvette Today. Thanks
24:27
again for listening and watching
24:29
Corvette Today. And be sure to tell your
24:31
