from around the world all right everybody here we go it's time to bring you the latest Corvette news and headlines with my pal Keith cornette
3:53
from Corvette blogger.com as you know Keith is with me every other week and we keep you current and upto date on what's
3:59
happening with America Sports Car Keith welcome back to the show buddy it was a Monumental week last week episode number
4:05
250 for Corvette today and the beginning of year number six will happen in mid April just a couple months away well the
4:12
amazing thing is you know and I had the same process when I was talking about starting the blog is is there enough news out there is there enough
4:18
interesting people out there and now that you're 250 episodes I know that you've done a couple people a few times
4:23
but there is such a wide bandwidth that you can apply to the Corvette hobby so I mean there are stories everywhere so
4:29
again to UST for taking on this project and really turning it into I know people that tune in every Monday for the show
4:35
it's just fantastic for you and congratulations again on that Milestone thank you buddy as a matter of fact after 250 episodes we've never
4:42
duplicated any episodes so whatever episode you listen to know it it's a single episode it's not a duplicated
4:47
episode which is pretty darn cool yeah all right buddy let's start off like we always do let's get a production update
4:53
on Corvettes from the Bowling Green assembly plant sounds good so our numbers take us almost to the end of the month and production we see is still
4:59
running strong we actually went back and looked the plan has been averaging around 156 Corvettes completed per day
5:05
over the past 2 weeks currently we stand at 8,736 Stingrays
5:11
3,579 z6s and 1,246 e-rays just based on the latest
5:16
Vin count that's a great total of 13,561 Corvettes produced so far for 2025 model year one of the interesting
5:23
things is that I saw that 156 Corvettes being produced averagely per day so I went back and looked at what January in
5:29
February was in 2024 and we are building roughly 200 and some Corvettes per day
5:35
huh that's a reduction of about 50 cars over the two shifts so it does feel like some steps are being taken to slow down
5:41
the production of the sting ray we see these dealers offering upwards of 15% off of MSRP for discounts right 202 24s
5:48
are still out there so if you're looking for a good deal that's where I would go is look at those 2024 still on Deal a lot but it does feel like steps are
5:54
being taken to slow down that production and hopefully we'll see an emphasis then with the ZR1 coming shifting more
6:00
towards the widebody production of course GM makes really some great money on these Corvettes that all start north of $100,000 with the base Stingray they
6:07
sell more of those than any other car but the market saturated so we're really excited about ZR1 coming online the
6:13
e-rays have been very steady with their production numbers and of course the Z6 is they're building uh about 50 a day or
6:18
so yeah it all seems pretty good so far and again we're just watching latest constraints and all that stuff but
6:24
production still running strong that's good and speaking of ZR1 pre-orders went in on January 23rd yeah so we're getting
6:30
closer to the official ZR1 order cycle starts on February 13th but GM opened
6:35
the order bank for pre-orders on January 23rd now these orders all go in at status 1100 and they're not really
6:42
official until that order is match to a dealer's allocation which is coming February 13th some dealers like to get
6:48
those customer orders in early it does allow GM to see what customers want on their cars someone said it's not worth
6:53
the paper it's printed on but you're there we hear people all the time now on Facebook and stuff saying I've got a Z1
7:00
no you don't you got a spot in line yeah we'll wait to see what allocations are we expect them to be very loose starting
7:05
off with and then just sort of ramping up there right we also have some other news Chevrolet told dealers they will be
7:11
receiving the ZR1 Playbook this is a helpful PDF guide outlining all the equipment for the car and ordering you
7:17
generally we don't see that that's for dealers but a big thing that's coming up for buyers will be the configurator will
7:23
go live on chevrolet.com on February 11th nice just before those allocations
7:28
come out we be able to build our cars and I know we're going to do a couple sample builds and share those among our
7:34
Riders here at Corvette blogger so that's always fun now there is some bad news regarding ZR1 ordering as Chevrolet
7:39
has already notified dealers that the zr1's visible carbon fiber wheels these are exclusive only to the ZR1 these
7:46
wheels will be on 100% constraint when ordering opens they are listed as a late availability so there's actually no
7:52
telling when these wheels will show up and of course we always see these issues with carbon fiber Arrow bits as well so
7:57
I'll be watching that but Chevrolet came out said Don't expect carbon fiber Wheels when ordering opens Our advice is
8:03
if you really want one of the first z1es and you get that allocation just be prepared to be flexible because demand's
8:08
going to be high initial allocations will be low and then of course one of the lessons we've learned over the past few years is that many of the things
8:14
that the buyers missed out on due to constraints can be purchased later through Chevrolet's parts department or the aftermarket so keep that in mind and
8:20
of course adding a set of wheels after the fact is very easy sometimes adding the arrows a little bit more difficult
8:25
but we're seeing actually ZO6 replica wings out being sold now and like that so it'll come it just depends on how bad
8:32
you want that car how fast you want that car just always keep that in mind believe it or not Keith as much as I
8:37
love carbon fiber that's okay with me on the wheels because my spec would be the black one with the edge blue wheels so
8:44
I'm okay with the 100% constraint on the carbon fiber Wheels on the ZR1 how about that yeah I think we both talked about
8:50
that last time I think the black is very stunning of course you got to go with the coupe and the split window because it's the iconic look and again that blue
8:58
stripe and those blue wheels are pretty cool that's my spec for sure also Keith
9:03
GM announced four new appearance packages for 2025 this kind of reminds me of the Atlantic and Pacific builds
9:09
back for C7 yeah and also the 2019 Corvette ZR1 Sebring orange design package this was a car that was set up
9:16
in a way kind of offers a uniform look with the package price yeah when you do it that way you actually get a discount
9:22
as opposed to adding up all those various options individually we also see this Chevrolet Japan does a lot of these
9:27
they'll generally have two or three different design packages a year and it just kind of standardizes the ordering process while also like I said offering
9:33
a little discount to that these appearance packages are 2025 Corvettes they will save you between $475 and
9:41
$1,670 in savings when you add up all the things that you get they're available as cops and convertibles and
9:46
you can still add options like z51 performance package and other things the packages are called the adrenaline red
9:51
accent package this is available in torch red arctic white and black and you have to order the adrenaline red
9:57
interior and it comes with black wheels the tension blue accent package is available in Arctic White only with Sky
10:03
cool gray interiors and this car is sort of set up like the old serve one research Vehicles white with the blue
10:08
stripes the third one is the velocity yellow accent package this is available in Riptide blue arctic white and
10:15
hysteria purple the final one Edge orange accent package available in black or Arctic White all these cars they all
10:22
feature black wheels they all include that low profile spoiler racing stripes or stingers and then all come with the
10:28
NP PP performance exhaust which again that's a $1,200 option right there dealers will have the details for
10:34
ordering these appearance packages on February 6th for questions and get see your dealers for details nice to see a
10:39
little bit of some fun happening we haven't had a true special edition I think since the c8r versions back in
10:45
2022 but pretty exciting to see this stuff happening and again see your dealers for details yeah I like those
10:50
special packages because when you see them it's like oh that's cool look there's one of those special package cars that's pretty cool also I think
10:57
everybody will be excited about this the Fed ederal Trade Commission has banned GM and OnStar from selling our driving
11:03
data for five years yeah this goes back to last year's stories about GM and OnStar selling your driving data to
11:09
brokers who then turned around and sold it to the insurance companies and then owners are wondering why their rates are
11:14
going up each and every year and it's because GM was providing pages and pages of driving data for those quote opted
11:20
into the program when it turns out that the opted notice wasn't clearly stated that their intentions and all that stuff
11:26
it was a crazy story New York Times actually blew the lid off of it there's actually been several lawsuits filed as
11:32
well so the Federal Trade Commission announced as punishment that General Motors and its subsidiary OnStar will
11:37
not be allowed to sell customer geolocation data and driving behavior data for the next 5 years of course
11:42
we'll have to see what happens after that but no one likes their personal data shared gotcha also Keith we have a new board member for the National
11:48
Corvette Museum it's Amy msika yeah she's actually Chevrolet's director of marketing and she's going to be taking
11:54
over the board seat that had been occupied by Harlen Charles Corvette's product marketing manager he's been there since I think 2005 wow so he's
12:02
probably just you know looking for a little bit of a break from the position she says she's honored to join the board she's calling the Corvette not just a
12:09
car it's a culture a community and a symbol of innovation hopefully we'll get a meet Amy at the NCM bash in April
12:14
welcome to the NCM and we're expecting some good things to happen definitely and our last story in the news section
12:19
Keith all three Corvette models were in car and driver's 2025 editor Choice list
12:25
another award for Corvette yeah this is C and Driver think about the 10 best List the 10 best cars and then this is
12:31
really an expanded version of that so two Corvettes already made that 10 best list the stingray and the eay but now we
12:37
have the Z6 added the Z6 wasn't allowed in the 10 best because there's a price cap there oh but it's nice to see that
12:43
they recognize that all three Corvettes are an editor's Choice they're all done in their different segments the Corvette
12:48
Stingray was listed as the sports car segment eay was listed in the hybrid luxury sports car segment and then of
12:54
course the Z06 was in the luxury sports car segment one of the things they mentioned in their article hopefully you're buying a new Corvette because
13:01
it's the car that you love and we're pretty sure that you're going to end up loving the car that you bought check out either Corvette blogger for what they
13:06
said about the Corvettes or if you want to go see all the different cars it's over a car and driver that's cool all
13:11
right buddy time for our first break when we come back it's Corvette racing and Corvette rumors up next here on

16:44
docomo Steve Garrett with me is my partner in crime every other week Keith cornette from corvet blogger.com we keep
16:51
you current and up toate on what's happening with America sports car in segment two we always cover Corvette
16:56
racing first let's talk about how Corvett racing did at Daytona yeah that was some great racing to watch amazing
17:03
stuff happening there we had five Z6 GT THS in the field with three of those in the GTD Pro class and then two running
17:10
in the GTD class the biggest news coming from the weekend is that AWA racing their Z6 gt3r won the gdd class by just
17:18
1.45 seconds this is the 21st victory for Chevrolet in the Rolex 24 and the
17:23
fifth for the Corvette racing program since 1999 so congratulations to AWA racing in GT Pro the racing again
17:30
extremely fun to watch both Corvettes were competitive all the way through the race the number three Corvette placed
17:35
second and it was actually sandwich between the two Ford Mustangs who went first and third there of course was some
17:40
drama which everyone was talking about after the race in the final hours the number four Corvette with Tommy Milner
17:46
was running first and he was sending off a challenge from the number one BMW when the BMW's teammate in the number 48 Car
17:52
which again was several laps down and out of contention began deliberately blocking Tommy and the Corvette despite
17:58
receiving a call from Ina's race control for intentional blocking farfus who was the driver of that number 48 Corvette
18:04
stayed with it and deliberately blocked Milner in the international horseshoe curve there as Tommy was trying to get
18:10
out of the way from him he hit the number one BMW on his side and end up damaging the Corvettes rear fa this is
18:15
the big story here the big windup as Tommy came AB breast of the number 48 BMW he opened up that little small
18:21
window on the side of the Z6 GTV stuck his entire arm out there and extended his middle finger which of course was
18:26
captured by the TV cameras as all everybody was talking about afterward with the damage the number four Corvette
18:32
fell to seventh place to finish the race but the good news is you can now buy a t-shirt with an illustration of Milner
18:38
communicating his displeasure to the DMW we've got that link on Corvette blogger
18:43
the funny thing is that the profits will go to the American Eagle Foundation which is a conservatory for birds so
18:49
save the birds buy a T-shirt and finally just the last Point
18:55
here is reliability has been an issue last year for the Z6 but this year four of the five all finished the race
19:01
unfortunately the entry from dxt racing suffered an engine fire in the middle of the night they would finished 20th in
19:07
class but everybody else finished right where they should have been that was good to see that was good to see and it was really good to see that t-shirt I
19:13
thought that was awesome it's nice to do relations with BMW and give them the middle finger salute that's awesome
19:19
there you go also the National Corvette Museum's Motorsports Park is teaming up with pratton Miller they're doing a
19:25
Corvette racing Fantasy Camp what's going on with that yeah this was big news announced during the Corvette
19:30
Corral seminars at the Rolex 24 so coming in October is the first Corvette racing Fantasy Camp it'll bring together
19:36
racing enthusiasts with some of the top Minds at Pratt Miller for really what's going to be like an immersive experience I kind of think of space camp you know
19:43
where you go and learn all about NASA and all that stuff right this is racing Camp participants will learn about prepping a car the technology that
19:50
provides all the crew with insights and data then using that data to plan out your race participants will also do pit
19:57
stops and they'll be on track Driving Experience as well at the NCM Motorsports Parks according to the
20:02
initial plans the Corvette racing fantasy camps will take place in October the first class I believe is October
20:08
22nd and what they're going to do is they're going to limit this to 28 participants and then each of the sessions will be broken up so when you
20:14
do something you're only in a group of four people which is kind of cool as well so you'll really get hands on there if you're interested the NCM Motorsports
20:21
Park already has the details for the Pratt Miller fantasy camp and registration is open for that first class the cost to participate is
20:29
$3,180 for each person it just reminds me of the old adage if you want to make a little money in racing start with a
20:34
lot there you go that would be cool I'd love to be on the pit crew that changes out tires either with the gun or moving
20:41
the tires that'd be fun I'll do the fuel fill our final story in the second
20:48
segment Keith is a rumor did our buddy the chief engineer for Corvette Josh holder get a new updated title yeah this
20:55
was kind of exciting of course Corvette Nation recently tuned into bear Jackson's collector car auction at Scottdale to watch the sale of the first
21:01
2025 Corvette ZR1 that's going to wear Vin 001 and on the stage introducing the
21:07
car was Josh holder he's the vehicle chief engineer for the Corvette as opposed to Tony Roma who's the executive
21:13
chief engineer Josh is Hands-On with the car as the vehicle chief engineer but one of the things that was interesting
21:19
is I was watching the live YouTube feed for the auction but a member of the mid- engine Corvette forum named Shepard 777
21:25
was watching the broadcast on the History Channel and when it showed Josh talking on The Auction Block underneath him was the graphic that read vehicle
21:32
chief engineer Das Corvette ice of course we all know that ice stands for internal combustion engines so that begs
21:39
the question does GM also have a vehicle chief engineer for Corvette EVS you know one of the persistent rumors between C7
21:45
and C8 was that Chevy might pursue a dual production strategy for both those cars thinking that some people wouldn't
21:51
embrace the mid-engine technology that rumor actually turned out to be true but could it be now that Chevrolet is also
21:57
looking for a dual track for producing a Corvette EV while also providing customers with CA Corvettes powered by
22:03
reliable and Powerful gas engines I'd have to say I do like this strategy there's quite a few rumors that chevry
22:09
is working on an Eevee sports car and possibly a Corvette badged SUV the good news is that those who want that kind of
22:15
Technology those who want to jump into a plugin electric car they'd be able to do so meanwhile those of us that really
22:22
like gas engines the sound of exhaust roaring in our ears we'll still have those choices as well and I think this
22:27
is probably most like ly the kind of thing that we're going to see here it does seem to confirm that with him
22:32
having that new title this dual production strategy may be in effect that's cool well we'll have to wait and
22:38
see we'll talk to Josh at the bash and see what's exactly going on with his job title that'll be cool there were some
22:44
stuffs coming out that you know we might see SUVs or EVS in 2025 2026 27 I think
22:50
a lot of those have been pushed back towards 2029 and 2030 again that's all rumors we're still I think a couple
22:56
years away from all that stuff yeah definitely all right buddy let's do our final break when we come back it's the

31 I'm your host Steve Garrett with me is my buddy Keith cornette from Corvette blogger if you want a deeper dive into
26:34
any of the stories that we cover you can always go to Corvette blogger.com in this final segment we always cover the
26:40
fun side the lighter side of Corvette Keith this story was really kind of a pigtale from the story that we just did
26:46
in segment two Rick Hendrick once again bought ZR1 number1 at Barrett Jackson
26:51
for $3.7 million wow yeah that money will go to charity too it all goes to
26:57
the American Red cross which is one of the organizations helping all those people out in California with the fires
27:03
this is a really cool program Chevrolet has been doing this now for about 20 years in which they offer the right of the auction bidder Barrett Jackson to
27:09
buy basically the first Vin 001 Corvette for nearly 20 years most of these cars have been purchased by Chevrolet dealer
27:15
NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick his checkbook once again got a workout at Bear Jackson Scottsdale paid $3.7
27:21
million for the right to build the first 2025 Corvette ZR1 he'll be able to option it however he wants Coupe
27:27
convertible he'll be able to pick his colors and pick options as well this was a record price for a charity auction and
27:32
I think it brings a total I think Barrett Jackson put out that they've raised 12.9 million for the charity of
27:37
all the VIN 001 c8s that have been sold since 2019 or so wow congratulations to
27:43
Rick for getting that car he usually shares some photos when it arrives at City Chevrolet once production starts
27:49
and we know that the car has been released we'll obviously be looking for that really cool thing that he's done and again American Red Cross just got a
27:56
donation for $3.7 million so everybody wins it's good to be Rick Hendrick that's for sure that's right also Keith
28:03
the owner's manual for 2025 is only digital but we did figure out how to get
28:08
a printed version didn't we so I told you I bought a 2025 Corvette eay right right well when I bought the car I
28:15
didn't know that it was not going to come with an owner's manual when I opened up the glove box there was another manual in there called essential
28:21
operating and safety information and apparently the same cost GM is now telling us to download the owner's
28:26
manual from chevrolet.com or to view it on my Chevrolet app well Steve I'm a bit old school I like the convenience of the
28:32
digital owner manual but I also like the idea of having access to a printed manual whenever I needed in the glove
28:37
compartment there is a process where you can buy a printed owner's manual and I just went through that process you go to
28:43
chevrolet.com you click on the menu to expand it and then click on Owner Manuals there's a specific link there
28:48
for that and then once you find your year there's actually a place there where you can jump over to a company
28:53
called Helm Incorporated and order a printed manual now the manual for my 2025 was $55 it cost me another $30 to
29:01
ship it to me so altogether my cost was $863 huh ouch yeah but at least now I
29:06
have a full manual in my glove box I ever need it it was funny because no one actually knew this we actually heard
29:12
that dealers reached out to Chevrolet saying hey none of my customers have Owner Manuals and at first we were kind
29:17
of thinking that oh they're coming they're going to be replaced and then we were told no no no what you have is what
29:22
you got if you need a manual go to chevrolet.com I don't like those kinds of cost savings so I went and bought my
29:28
I don't blame you buddy I would want one in the glove box as well also this is another great story from Barrett Jackson
29:33
we talked about Peter Brock who is the living legend that Drew and designed the C2 Corvette well he has a reimagined 63
29:41
split window and his very first one was sold to Barrett Jackson yeah we covered this car when he debuted it at SEMA and
29:47
it's really cool I mean it's got a lot of restom mod stuff on it but if you just think of the body now it's got
29:52
integrated lights the 63 had fake vents on the hood those are all now real vents on the side sides are all real and the
29:59
biggest change I think is he enlarged the size of the two windows on the rear offers a lot more visibility in fact so
30:06
much more visibility that maybe even zorao would have liked this design who knows yeah we saw that car first at SEMA
30:11
and then he took it to Barrett Jackson where it was sold for $325,000 the good news is I traded a
30:18
couple emails with Peter as we were leading up to this and it sounds like there's talk that his split window design he calls it the studio concept
30:25
1963 Corvette it could be created as a series for buyers so they might build up to 20 of them if there's enough interest
30:32
in that really cool car great design I think people are really going to like it congratulations for that first sale of
30:37
325 and we'll see what else comes of it that's true and as a matter of fact I've got Peter Brock coming to Corvette today
30:42
again he was on show number 30 way back in November of 2020 but Peter Brock has
30:48
already been recorded it's in the can and ready to go we will be talking about that reimagined 63 split window either
30:54
in late February or early March of this year it's a great story and it's a really good show make sure you check it
31:00
out also Keith we have the top 11 of the meum auction of Corvettes that were sold
31:05
there at mikum CMI yeah some amazing stats coming out of there before we get to the top 11 just couple stats here
31:11
that were compiled by our Detroit Bureau Steve Burns the top 11 Corvettes included one Resto mod and then the
31:16
other 10 were restored and highly awarded cars the two top best sellers from the auction were actually both
31:22
previously owned by Corvette Mike Mike obviously knows how to find the good cars right oh yeah 88 of the top 100
31:28
sales were all C1 c2s or c3s seven of those top 100s were the C7 ZR1 so you
31:34
can kind of get these trends of going 125 total Corvettes sold for over
31:39
$100,000 and then another 32 were no sales at over $100,000 or more and then
31:45
this really blew my mind and I saw it at the auction 29 split window coups were offered 19 of those sold for an average
31:51
of $24,000 there were 32 1967 Corvettes offered and 26 of those sold 28 of those
31:59
32 were all Big Blocks so that's where you really want to be if you want a collectible 67 is a Big Blocks some of
32:06
the notable no sales was a red red 1967 L88 Coupe that reached 2.5 million but
32:12
did not sell a 1968 L Coupe reached 400,000 in bidding did not sell uh
32:19
19636 375k was a no sale and then 2025 Corvette eay was a no sale at
32:25
$150,000 which I don't know about one I think maybe buer should have taken the money on that one yeah our top 11 1967
32:33
Corvette L88 Coupe top bestseller 2.25 million wow number two 1967 this was a
32:39
Corvette l89 coupe again formerly owned by Corvette Mike very highly documented I think only two of these cars had the
32:46
same kind of equipment and only one exists today which is this car it sold for 1.7 million and then third 1969
32:53
Corvette L88 convertible $759,000 that 57 big brake airbox car
32:59
sold for $715,000 Wow number five was a 1963 Corvette a ZO6 with a big tank and
33:06
uh Split Window Coupe that was $511,000 number six 1963 Corvette fuel
33:11
injected Z06 with the big tank option sold for $489,500 number seven this was really
33:18
cool the Corvette ZR1 pilot car convertible the very first ZR1 in history sold for
33:24
$451,000 you know he kind of seems a little low but again with the kind of equipment on it it's a great car for
33:29
that money I think it actually was right where it should have been uh 1958 Corvette convertible
33:35
$396,000 I think that was one of the high prices ever for a 58 you and I talked about that right you got a shout
33:41
out for supplying that answer so congratulations to you there I did thanks number nine was a 1958
33:47
convertible $385,000 number 10 1965 fuel injected tanker Coupe sold for
33:53
$379,500 and finally our top 11 was a 196 8 Corvette L88 Coupe which sold for
34:00
$363,000 all in all close to 400 of the 500 some Corvettes offered at meum CMI
34:06
2025 were sold looks like a hugely successful auction once again for the people at meum it was one of the best
34:11
auctions i' been to in a long time with the amount of talent that was there with these cars was just amazing and mind-blowing not only do you get to see
34:18
these cars sell but it's like you know a big car show where you get to see everything it was a lot of fun for Corvette day that we had and being able
34:24
to walk around and and just view these beautiful cars and take them all in congratulations again to the buyers and
34:29
sellers at meum that was really really cool and a lot of fun for sure well buddy thanks for being on Corvette today
