4:03
today buddy hey thanks Steve I
4:05
appreciate you having me on the podcast
4:07
it's great to have you here first of all
4:09
Mike let's talk like we usually do tell
4:11
me about your earli years where did you
4:13
grow up do you have siblings do you come
4:15
from a car family so I grew up in
4:18
Michigan pretty close to the Motor City
4:20
I was about 30 miles north of Detroit
4:23
but I lived only about 15 minutes from a
4:26
place called Sterling Heights where
4:29
there were probably three or four major
4:32
manufactured plants Ford Chevy Dodge and
4:35
then literally hundreds of dealerships
4:38
and I have family that lived in Sterling
4:40
Heights and so we were there quite often
4:43
and I got to see a lot of the amazing
4:46
sports cars back in the mid to late 80s
4:51
I was born in 1980s so by the time I was
4:53
about five or six I was already into
4:55
cars I had three brothers and a sister
4:57
and I was the youngest so all three of
5:00
my brothers were looking out for me for
5:02
really awesome cars and they would point
5:04
out Corvettes all the time and Mustangs
5:06
and you name it if it was out there they
5:08
were pointing it out to me so cars
5:10
really did play an important role in
5:12
your early life didn't they oh yeah we
5:14
had some friends that had some money and
5:18
so a couple of our really good friends
5:20
growing up one of them had a 1970
5:22
Firebird that was all like restored and
5:24
had a 400 cubic inch engine in it and I
5:27
got to ride in that all the time and
5:29
then I had another friend whose dad
5:31
bought him a brand new 1993 Mustang GT
5:35
right when he turned 16
5:37
man nice yeah so I had fast cars in my
5:41
life as far as my friends went as well I
5:44
saw my very first Lamborghini Kos when I
5:47
was probably about 8 years old wow you
5:49
know the Lamborghini Kos that white Kosh
5:52
was the poster on my wall as a teenager
5:55
oh yeah I had that I had the Ferrari
5:57
tester Roa I had both of them as
5:59
Matchbox cars nice I loved them all so
6:02
what cars were you drawn to when you
6:04
were young obviously you know Corvette
6:06
might not have been the first one but
6:07
what cars first caught your eye when you
6:09
were growing up those two were probably
6:13
the cars that I dreamed about the most
6:15
but I saw Corvette so the C4 was the
6:19
most popular style back then obviously I
6:22
would see some c3s every once in a while
6:24
but mostly you saw C4s driving around
6:27
and I loved the C4 so I fell in love
6:31
with Corvettes at an early age as well
6:33
but obviously I knew that Ferrari and
6:35
Lamborghini were more rare and exotic
6:39
cars so those were my favorite two cars
6:42
yeah that leads me into the next
6:43
question what was your first
6:45
recollection of Corvettes probably when
6:47
I was four years old believe it or not
6:50
we lived in Mississippi I lived there
6:52
for a couple years in my life and then
6:54
we moved back to Michigan but we had a
6:56
neighbor that had a C3 across the street
6:59
from us
7:00
and that was the first Corvette I ever
7:01
saw in my entire life and we moved from
7:03
there when I was four years old so I saw
7:06
a C3 first gota tell me when did you
7:10
realize that Corvette was your car it
7:13
was probably later in my life once I got
7:16
to a certain age I started reading all
7:18
of the magazines Car and Driver Motor
7:21
Trend Road and track and I realized
7:23
pretty quickly that out of all those
7:25
cars as a normal person the Corvette was
7:28
the one that I could achieve the fastest
7:31
yeah probably mid to late teens I
7:33
decided that that was my goal I bought
7:36
my first Corvette when I was 25 wow nice
7:39
so talk about the Corvettes that you
7:41
previously owned and I know what you're
7:42
driving now but tell everybody what
7:44
you've got now I've got a 2024 CA erray
7:48
nice and what about your previous
7:49
Corvettes so my first Corvette was a
7:52
2003 Corvette Z06 I found it with only
7:56
1,700 miles on it in 2005 so it was only
8:00
2 years old and it had 1,700 miles and I
8:03
enjoyed that for three years the next
8:05
one I bought was actually almost 10
8:07
years later it was a 2009 C6 Z6 that one
8:13
actually had almost 600 rear wheel
8:16
horsepower but all naturally aspirated
8:18
so it was a very very fast car and then
8:21
a couple years after that in 2018 I
8:25
bought a 2015
8:27
c76 and those two the first one the
8:30
black c606 started my YouTube channel
8:33
gotcha that's the one that got
8:34
everything going yep that's the one that
8:36
got everything going then the C7
8:38
actually helped it grow way more than
8:41
the C6 did and then in 2020 I was lucky
8:44
enough to be one of the first people in
8:46
Texas to have a C8 and I got one in
8:49
March of 2020 I've owned that C8 turned
8:52
it into a Captain America car and then
8:54
the next C8 I bought was a 2023
8:57
convertible Stingray I did my Graphics
9:00
package on that and called it BOS 2.0
9:02
this year in June I took delivery of a
9:04
2024 eay very nice well buddy let's take

10:30

10:32
untimely death at the age of 64 Uncle
10:35
George and my aunt were smart college
10:37
educated people but their investment
10:38

10:40
their wealth plan and didn't ask
10:42
critical questions about how assets were
10:44
titled who the beneficiaries were or how
10:46
to take a pension or if they had a will
10:48
or trust when my Uncle George died my
10:50
aunt spent the next 26 months in Probate
10:53
Court spending thousands of dollars on

13:14
4231 I'm your host Steve Garrett with me
13:16
is Mike Brink from the brink of speed
13:18
YouTube channel in the second segment
13:20
we're going to talk about how you got
13:22
things going Mike before we start
13:24
talking about the YouTube channel what
13:25
did you do for a living before you get
13:27
your YouTube channel going well done a
13:29
lot of different things in my life but
13:31
mostly I stuck with sales in
13:35
2010 I started working for a roofing
13:37
company selling roofs gotcha I still
13:40
sell a roof every once in a while I have
13:42
a lot of customers because I've been
13:44
doing it for so long so when they need a
13:46
new roof I still go out and I help them
13:48
out but normally I'm 100% YouTube and
13:52
it's just every once in a while that I
13:53
do a roof now gotcha I know you started
13:55
brink of speed in April of 2018 talk to
13:59
me about your mindset and the beginning
14:01
of your YouTube channel and how you got
14:02
it going and off the ground making a
14:05
very long story short I actually had
14:07
started another YouTube channel I don't
14:09
know if any of you have heard of disc
14:11
golf before disc golf is played very
14:14
similar to regular Ball Golf only it's
14:17
with discs I started a YouTube channel
14:19
here in Dallas because there was a
14:22
website that you could go and look at
14:24
current disc golf courses but all it was
14:27
was crummy pictures and I thought it
14:29
would be a great idea to do a 4K Drone
14:32
footage YouTube channel where I took the
14:35
Drone from the tbox to the basket and
14:38
showed everybody 18 holes of the courses
14:41
and that way they could see exactly what
14:43
they were getting into before they drove
14:45
maybe a long ways to the course yeah
14:47
nice idea thank you so I started that
14:49
channel I called it black kite there's a
14:51
reason behind that it was kind of
14:53
because when you looked up in the air
14:54
and you saw my drone it looked kind of
14:55
like a black kite nice I filmed over 60
14:59
courses but it just didn't do well it
15:01
wasn't the right timing and it was kind
15:03
of like a niche thing that just wasn't
15:05
ready for YouTube at the time I had
15:07
bought my
15:08
c66 and my really good friend Clarence
15:11
of seag Garner speed 252 and I were
15:14
talking and he said you know what you
15:15
need to actually make a dedicated
15:18
Corvette or car channel so I started
15:21
brink of speed in April 18 he actually
15:25
was very instrumental on helping me get
15:27
that started correctly he knew a bunch
15:30
of the secrets of how to get going very
15:33
nicely on YouTube he even was an amazing
15:36
friend and at Carlile in 2018 got me in
15:40
touch with Street speed 717 we did a
15:42
video with him and Street speed 717 gave
15:45
me a shout out in his video that got
15:47
several hundred thousand views wow and
15:50
got me about 1,300 followers pretty
15:53
quickly with just one shout out took me
15:56
from about 600 Subs to about almost 2,00
15:59
Subs in about a week wow that's cool
16:02
Clarence has been extremely instrumental
16:05
on helping me out growing my YouTube
16:07
channel getting it off the ground now a
16:09
shout out to Clarence he's got a great
16:11
Channel as well yes and Street speed 717
16:14
so you're doing this full-time now
16:16
you're a full-time YouTuber correct
16:18
correct and you've got over 77,000
16:20
subscribers 1,200 plus videos 27.3
16:25
million views on your YouTube channel
16:27
yes sir that's amazing now if the
16:29
channel had a mission statement what
16:31
would it be what are you trying to
16:32
accomplish with that YouTube channel I
16:34
set out with a couple of goals but my
16:37
main goal was to be an authority on cars
16:41
I felt like I had that pretty much
16:43
nailed down just because of the fact
16:45
that I had started reading those car
16:47
magazines when I was about eight years
16:49
old and just never gave up on reading
16:52
car magazines and I even got into
16:54
motorcycle magazines so I've always been
16:56
a Gearhead and I've always had a lot of
16:59
knowledge in my head now the older I get
17:01
the less knowledge I have in my head
17:03
sound like me buddy you sound like me
17:06
but I feel like I have a strong passion
17:10
and knowledge for cars so I wanted to be
17:12
an authority and that's really my
17:14
mission statement I wanted to be a
17:16
authority figure in all cars not just
17:18

63942 31 I'm your host Steve Garrett
22:09
with me is my buddy Mike Brink from the
22:10
brink of speed YouTube channel we're
22:12
talking about everything brink of speed
22:15
Mike how often do you put out a YouTube
22:17
video for brink of speed I try and do at
22:19
least three a week but sometimes I get
22:21
out more than that but the goal is three
22:23
a week that's awesome and you also have
22:25
a live show too tell me all the details
22:27
on the live what it is and when it comes
22:29
out sure every Wednesday night at 700
22:32
p.m. Central Standard time I have octane
22:35
hour that I put out hence the name it's
22:37
an hour long the reason why I started
22:39
that is because I always love to do live
22:42
shows but they're not very fun by
22:45
yourself I mean they can be but they're
22:47
not like super fun by yourself and I had
22:49
these two guys in my life that I
22:51
consider very close friends one used to
22:53
be my neighbor and the other one I met
22:55
through the Corvette Community Darren
22:57
and Mark they're both very knowledgeable
23:00
but they both have two different types
23:01
of personalities so the three of us have
23:03
three different personalities up there
23:05
we like to make it fun we like to make
23:07
it funny basically the latest Corvette
23:10
news that's important to most people out
23:12
there and then we also do giveaways
23:14
every night so we just kind of throw a
23:16
little bit of everything in that hour
23:18
and it goes by pretty quickly we have a
23:20
great audience every week and we just
23:22
have a lot of fun that sounds great
23:24
you've also got obviously social media
23:27
as well to compliment the YouTube
23:29
channel yes where can people get you on
23:31
social media so everything is the same
23:33
it's all at brinka speed and it's
23:36
Twitter Facebook and Instagram I also do
23:39
have a website called the brink ofe
23:41
speed.com so if you want to find me

speed it's the brink ofp speed.com and
23:51
you've got a merchandise store where
23:52

23:54
things like that right sure that's
23:55
awesome hey if someone wants to reach
23:57
out to you personally can they contact
23:59
you yeah so I used to just let people
24:02
contact me on brickers speed atgmailcom
24:05
okay but after hearing about some issues
24:09
with keeping that Gmail as your normal
24:12
contact gmail I made a brand new one
24:14
that's called b2020 CA gmail.com gotcha
24:19
that way if somebody sent me a link that
24:21
I click on and it maybe took me to a bad
24:23
place they wouldn't be able to take over
24:25
my YouTube channel most people would
24:27
think you would just type in BR ofp spe
24:29
gmail.com but it's really b2020 C8
